It would be pretty cool to have certain diseases / virus\'s / bacteria that is spread by certain more deadly/ harder monsters... potions/ healers could perhapse cure it... and these diseases / virus\' / bacteria alters your stats.. and continues to get worse as time proceeds.
-
That idea was mentioned here http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=11235&boardid=11&styleid=3 among other ideas.
(just a point although I beleive that this topic deservers a thread of its own)
-
well not to revive old thread and to continue this one, since it\'s been started. This is awesome idea. GM Events such as plagues could be cool too.
-
I wouldn\'t call 21.11.2004, 09:51 anywhere near old. And a thread can be deleted it it\'s redundant. And my stance on this subject hasn\'t changed since the \"old\" thread, and may be summed up by this: .
-
I apologize :D for calling your thread old. It\'s very youthful actually and has many more days, maybe even months to live. dear mods, this thread is new and inexperienced, it needs to be cut off
-
ROFL!
The \"\" was intended as summary of my stance towards the diseases idea, though. :)
The sudden change of what I was talking about was misleading indeed. The other thread isn\'t mine, btw..
-
Heh, Seytra someone revived the discussion we firmly put to death. I was the only serious advocate for disease, and I ended up conceding defeat. This thread sould be killed.
-
Naah, plague events are cool, whathu talking about
-
yeah, and it would give healers as well as blue way mages more to do...
-
Imagine this scenario.
Devs spread a message that in some area X there\'s rumors of a plague. This area could be a scorched land of undead for example or some abandoned village with bunch of rats. Now, people who stumble on that area will have a change to get sick by this plague. If they get sick their names become red or their character turns slightly red or ther\'s a little message about their heads \"Plagued\".
The point of the even is not to see everyone dies(in fact nobody dies from plague itself), but to see how the plague will be prevented. Obviously for fun reasons the plagued players will want to spread it in big towns, but here\'s where the other players will come in. The town guards will close town doors in front of plagued players, the healty players will have access to attack plagued players in town area (no looting allowed) When the plagued player is killed, he/she is revived instantly with healthy status.
This even could last up to 3 hours. NPCs could get plagues so they could be attacked as well, but revived healthy instantly in same position.
I believe this could be fun to see how the town will prevent plagues. It\'s fun, no need for cures, actually dying from the plagues etc. Maybe there could be antidote, but that\'s not the point in this event as I described.

Don\'t forget Poisons!

Can it get any worse than this? This idea is by far the one I hate most, of all previously proposed ones.
First, this is lightyears from anything that even remotely mighht be called \"roleplay\", and also \"realism\". If anything, it is like \"capture the flag\" in FPS environments, and isn\'t justifiable in any RPG.
Also, if players actually found it amusing to spread the plague, and others to keep battling hordes of \"funny\" players, then this would totally ruin the RP environment and the immersive feel of PS that everyone else is striving to create.
If this will ever be implemented, then PS is a complete failure.

No matter how you twist it, events are suppose to be something quick and fun from time to time. I am not suggesting this would be everyday thing, but you are just biased my friend. If I described the event without the \"roleplay\" taste that you enjoy so much, I apologize, let somebody who has more imagination dress it up for you in pretty pink skirt, little girl.
edit: ps. I really enjoy real roleplay as well, not to confuse anyone... If I\'m dead wrong, just suggest it, don\'t be so blunt biased

Plague events would suck... Im talkin bout.... Lets say theres a \"Giant Death creature from the black lagoon\", This creature is pregnant, or infected with parasites. You cut the creatures stumach open, at this time.. Its childeren pop out in their evil larvae form and latch onto your back, sucking nutrients and blood out of you... since the creature is in the middle of your back you cant get it off!, cut this bugger and it poisons you, hence you need a healer.... Same sorta system for a disease/ virus... VIRUS\'S: Permanent (dont wana get one!) diseases, cureable.. parasites... you can get them off yourself, but will poison you if you do, so best to goto a healer.

I\'m afraid I\'ll have to agree with seytra, such a way of implenting it ruins realism and rp and prolly alows more grief as there will be \"plague killers\" that just do it to annoy the plagued people, and if there won\'t be any disadvantage for dieing with plague, then people go die instantly or use cheesy tactics (get plague, hit strong-ass creature alot, get killed by the creature, be revived instantly, and then attack the now severly damaged strong-ass creature)

I\'m against any permament disadvantage that doesn\'t give any advantage, it will lead to characters being abandoned if they get too many viruses, and thats not how it works in reality either... so thusly i think this is stupid.
i think, just as i posted in the old thread, that diseases should always be curable somehow, and that they should only go from monster and possibly NPC\'s to players to prevent grief...

Alright I tend to agree, finally somebody who is not a little whining girl answered with logic. Yes, the way I described it sounds un-rp, however, I am sure somebody who has a sense for making events could come up with a similar event which would promote a lot of fun and rp.

Curses would be better, you can curse someone or be cursed by someone or a monster.
Only people with necromancy skills can curse someone.
Curse will have several bad effects, and can only be broken by the one that cursed you. Well.. he can easily break the curse but there should be some hard ways to get it broken too, like special items.
It\'s like the same as you\'re virusses only you can\'t give it to another one to walking next to him or something, it only effects 1 person (or a group of people).

Yes, they are. But they also are something that fits the overall story and setting, including the general style of the game. I don\'t see an event like this fit the PS style. I also don\'t see how it would be acceptable story-wise.
The essence of your proposal is this: whoever gets the disease is supposed to try to break into a city and infect as many people as possible, and this is considered \"fun\", right?
I\'m not even going to argue on the moralistic point as I think this is fairly obvious, but I\'m going to argue on the RP point. These are things that would be done in-character, so while there indeed may be some ruthless evil and plainly sick character(s) who might actually do such a thing and even consider it \"fun\", these will not be many. Certainly, any somewhat sensible character (and definitely any \"good\"-aligned char) will not do any of this. Therefore, either they just wait until the plague is over if they have gotten infected, or would help the city. Therefore, there would be only very few chars who would actually participate in this (IMNSHO highly questionable) \"fun\", and everyone will need to find some RP explanation for it. If a lawful good paladin tries to have some \"fun\" in this way, then this will be part of his RP background, and I surely will consider them \"evil\" from that point on. I\'m not going to act as if nothing happened.
To sum it up: it would be either something for very, very few people, or force almost everyone to trash RP and thereby invalidate everything anyone has been striving for.

Yes, I am biased against the whole \"disease\" idea, because I can\'t see it add to gameplay. Still I believe that my post wasn\'t without reason.

The most RP-oriented reason for the scenario you described that I can see would be biological warfare, and I don\'t want that in PS. I can see other scenarios, like real plagues, but I don\'t really see any gameplay benefit in these. It\'s just like the server randomly selecting accounts to delete. I don\'t think any character should be affected by anything that they don\'t choose by themselves.

Again, I don\'t actually have the impression that I\'m too biased to have a point or two.

Well, you seem to have taken my comments personally. They weren\'t meant personally, though. I simply don\'t like the idea, regardless of who proposes it. Even if Talad himself would propose it, I\'d not move by an inch.
Furthermore, I find my reply to not be whining and also to be logical, though taking your proposal at face value (i.e., focusing on the special scenario described by you), simply because the other possible scenarios have been discussed on the other thread already (therefore there would have been no reason to re-propose them).
Hence, there is no need for insults.

Any of you played morrowing? Thats a good disease/ plague system. That one i can live with. (gets worse over time, always curable.)

I can\'t really see any problems with diseases if implented in a good way, I don\'t really understand how getting diseases from NPC\'s and mobs ruins rp, plague events won\'t have to be giving diseases to random acounts, but rather increase the number of mobs spreading the disease, increase the chance of geting the disease from a particular mob, or give the disease to an npc that many players visit... and grief can be taken care of by not alowing player to player spreading... also it makes the healer job alot more important...

Well thanx for a good answer. Yes I did take it personally because of all the (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/images/icons/thumb_down.gif) pics and tone. My fault
I agree with you that something serious as plagues, which by itself could be a genre of a game, don\'t fit into PS. That\'s exactly why I didn\'t propose plagues as everyday activity of the game, but rather 1-3 hour events once a month or something.
The events wouldn\'t be boring, that\'s why creative people work on it. Why plague event? It\'s just creative and different from other events or activities of the game and will give some variation so that people won\'t be bored.
Do the plague events have to be implemented? NO, I\'m not pushing for them, I wanted to see how many would like the event idea
