OMFG this game is ...... up flow. I pressed on create character 6 or 7 times before it went to the next \"page\" and when i finishe everything the ........ game shut down because this illegal operations ...... .......
It\'s sad to say but for a long time this game will be worse thaN RUNESCAPE .....or in nicer w3rds runescape will be better than this game for a long time.
LOL anyone with pentiim 3 under 900 mhz and 128 ram will still problems...and thats if u have a really really really good connection...if ya got 56k.....well....runescape will be just fine for you.
I tried to log in twice and it did the same thing. The lag is unbearable..(you could die) and the game is way too detailed for an mmorpg. Geez i got problems playing some games without online..now play a game with hundereds of other people with the lag where it takes me 30 seconds for 1 single step...LOL its better if the game was kept private and the \"gamemakers\" dont get preassured by moronic didiots that just say \"i dont care if the game destroys and burns my comp into peices..I WANA PLAY!!!\"
Yes this is my opinion and its a dam good one.

Did it occur to you that this game is not finished? We are working very hard on making things faster. Don\'t worry, it will get better. A lot better if all goes well :-)

game requirements are high cause this is an emence 3D world. not some cardboard cut out like the other game you mentioned. have you ever looked into games like DAoC or even EQ? these are the games we are following for style. check the requirements of those games sometime. if you think a game has to be able to run on a slow comp to be good then why are those doing so well. if you tried to play either of those with under the requirements you listed, it would be just as slow. does that mean those games are crap as well?
bottom line is the game you are trying to compare this one to is so bellow our standards. they are complete opposites of themselves. i don\'t even consider that game to be a RPG. it is more of a hack and slash action adventure game. it doesnt matter if it has quests or not. there is no storyline to follow, no true stratagy to be discovered, and no player emersion. its like playing an online version of Zelda. well i shouldn\'t say that cause even Zelda has more class in gameplay than that.

How odd. I had no noticable lag with a 28.8 connection. Admittedly, my computer is somewhat faster than average, but if the connection were the problem, that wouldn\'t matter.

Actually, runescape is better right now. Quit whining about it. It\'s actually a game, and it runs on lots of computers, easily, without fuss, with no crashing.
And just because other games have huge system reqs doesn\'t mean you have to. This game, as it stands now, is not worth the system reqs it currently has. It runs slow on almost any computer, and even with a 56k modem the lag is awful. As it stands, most people still have modem connections, and not t1 or cable modem. Those are things you are going to have to solve before this game is finished.
And although big pretty city scenes are great, they wreak havoc on anything below a 1ghz system, because of all the polygons. Even with a 1ghz with 128 megs of ram, it slows down quite a bit when all those polygons come into view.
Runescape is the best free one out there. And they are going fully 3d in a couple of months, so you will have more to compete with. I think you can get this game out and working well enough to play, but it looks like it is a very long way away. I will check back in a few months. Until then, I will play the best free MMORPG there is, namely, Runescape.

One thing that would be very nice if everyone understood is this:
Network performance and Frames Per Second performance are NOT related in Planeshift AT ALL. They are independent.
If the game reacts slowly to you, it is most likely because of your video drivers being old. Update them and you might be surprised. It is certainly NOT network performance causing your problem. The game uses less than 1KB/sec at the moment and the networking is separately threaded from the rendering of the game in 3d.
Please spread the word.

It\'s because the engine is poorly programed, it renders the entire world, even when your on the other side of the world when it should just render what is viewable.

As the project manager of Crystal Space (the engine) I can tell you that this is certainly NOT the case. Just the opposite in fact. CS is very efficient at ONLY rendering what is visible and that\'s also what happens with the PlaneShift level.
However, this is not good for modern computers/3D cards as modern cards can handle a lot of geometry easily and the overhead of the visibility culling system is too big.
So I\'m now working on a new visibility culler that will cull LESS but it is a LOT more efficient. So it will work a lot better.

Why in a bad word name are people complaining X( , it is not often that people can play a game at a pre-alpha stage... many users keep forgetting it isn\'t even beta... try to enjoy the possebilety of helping the PlaneShift team and dont compair it with full working full version games...

runescape is fun... its what u make outa it. if ur a loner with no firends to play aroudn with adn pk with... ya i can see it getting broing. but its tons of fun too.
also they are making it totaly 3d... and andrew anouced that their are currently 1.3 million active acounts in runescape... although most epople have like 4-5 accoutsn each.
so.. back to this game. if u hold the same kinda attitude this game aint gunna be fun either... it like all games is pointless and pking will only be in designated areas

Well seems that lalaland is either a forum troll or something of similar lowness (ie closet runescape fanatic)... or more than likely mister lalaland is living in lalaland period.
If you where having trouble on the 2D titlescreen then theres something majorly wrong with your computer, I mean are you running on a 286 or something? or where you sure you were actualy clicking on the button... I can see how some chicken brains would have trouble aiming.
Now, heres a littel question id like all those that either say runescape is a good game or that say that the current system requirements are to high and they get crappy FPS. Do you currently own any post 1999 3D computer games (unreal, UT, Quake3, max payne etc), or do you or have you played or subscribed to a PAYING, current commercial 3D mmorpg? (eg. Everquest, DaoC, asherons call or Ultima:Reinasonce)?...
If you answered yes then more than likely you wont have responded to forum topic such as this one since youd know what the team is having to do.
If youve answered no then shut the hell up or at least try to learn what the development of a computer game intales. As for all teh littel children in teh forums that dont have or are not old enough for a credit card... either get a job or go back to playing Console games your parents buy you for chirstmas. REAL mmorpgs aint a place for children...
Venegences point is one Ive brought up many times, and any one that actualy continues to complain about network lag being caused by graphics needs to either up grade there old 486 or at least just shut up... since it shows your stupidity and ignorance with such a complaint.
Although Venegence Im not to sure that teh video driver tip helps much sicne I have a feeling half the people here have OLD machines, and no driver patch will help some one still useing a graphics card from 3 years ago, or heaven forbide still using software mode, simple as that.
mistwalker your opening comment is stupidity in its simplist form... how can you compare teh taste of a single apple seed to the taste of an apple plucked from an already grown tree!... As for teh city scenes.. all they have to do is implement a Clipping plane, its odd that you didnt mention a graphics card in your 1ghz 128ram example... since with out a graphics card even a 1ghz PC will choke on most current commercial 3D games... if you knew about things like this you would know that game speed is more greatly effected by teh graphics card you have installed than the CPU your PC has (would be a 20%cpu 80% GCard, older graphics cards pre-32megs ones how ever would slowly scale back to the CPU doing the most of the work).
As for Planeshift being too detailed for an mmorpg... would you rather walk around as wire frames or as stickmen... youd probably complain about your computer having Framerate problems even with that. And ot be honest PS\'s graphics are very undetailed compared to other games Ive played in this genre.
Do us all a favour and go play Runescape and that goes for any one that bash\'s PS teams work... god knows they can do with out whinners like your self.

People are just so eager to play a more complete version of this game because it shows so much promise - take it as a compliment ;).
White Dust is right though, we are privileged to see this project from such an early stage and we should be thankful that we have this peek at the game\'s concept phases and that we have a say in how it progresses - this is a golden opportunity for us all.
I\'m afraid I\'ve got to say that I am in the ranks of those who enjoy Runescape - I\'ve tried to deny it, but I keep going back ;) I know there are many faults and Planeshift can learn from those, but there is so much to be said for the appeal of online gaming and it\'s communities. I love the people I have met here and would hope to stay in contact regardless of what comes to pass.
Planeshift is a fantastic project and I\'m sure we all wish it, the engine, the people and everything else the best of luck. All they want from us is patience and our support, we can\'t lose really :D

and u know what chugorama... my 233 mhz handles just as well trying playing this game so i think u should take that into consideration instead of insinuating everyones just a bunch of retards who dont know what they are doing.
u guys should stop saying FPS problems are everyone elses... i would really like to see some kinda poll on this cause i bet 50% or more people have some kinda problem with fps issues when trying to play. ya it may be our hardware that actaully does the job but maybe there is some kinda error in coding or something thats screwing it. u guys aer sounding like planeshift is GODLY and could not possibly be the problem

Perhaps two polls, one for class of computer (give it a good spread over types of hardware...) and one for frames per second. See how the numbers compare.

I said this game COULD become good. I never once insulted planeshift. I was, in fact, making fun of people who are pissed off at a free game because they got frustrated with it.
Please do not call my comments stupidity when they are absolutely true. Look, my graphics card matters little, especially since all the drivers are updated. You need to have some way of blocking some of the damn polygons, if you want this game to run on a more than a select few machines. And please don\'t call MY comments stupid when yours are.

MY FREAKIN GOD!!!!!Runescape is the ultimate game iv found so far i was playing it when it was in beta and im still playing.it rocks what the hell--o is wrong with u retards so waht if its not super pretty, that makes sure u get less lag.Besides how can u compare them yet runescape is years old and started up this game is very new and early in its development.besides as far as i can tell this thing is slow and i cant even play yet.
well there u go plz dont insult me this is just my opinion and thoughts

Ok i have rpg for 2.5 years and have gone from test to 2d to 3d now for all the poepel complaining ive had worse lag on eq when new expaions come out and i am running a crappy hp cpu. Now all who complain that want to see a bad 2d engine go to http://www.graal2001.com its all 2d and with a 56k u can get bad lag from 20 othees being on. Normally tou couldnt even find a free 3d game wuth good graphics and runescape has bad graphics and no plot.

Planeshift is way better than runescape, how dare you even compair planeshift to it. First of all Planeshift is starting at a higher level of complexity than runescape and also runescape was really fricking crappy at the begining.
