Title: Updater Available (Test N.2)
Post by: Talad on December 10, 2004, 11:26:16 am
Hi,
Daniel spend few hours tonight for compiling a new updater version. We need your help to test it.

You can get the updater here:

www.planeshift.it/download/closed28763alpha/PS_Updater.dmg

After getting the file, you should edit updaterconfig.xml file that\'s present in your ps dir.

In that file you should locate the section
and substitute it with this one:

data
art
docs
rules
root
macosx

after that, launch the updater and tell us what happens.

It should download a new psclient file (66 Mb) and probably other various art depending on which files you have on your system.

Well I insalled the dlcompat-shlibs and I get the program to start for a few seconds but then it crashes, this time leaving an error message. Vaiyul had the same problem in the other updater thread. Here are the crash logs from updater.crash.log, console.log and system.log

console.log

I get the same quit problem, but with no message. It just opens then closes for a split second.

I had to download dlcompat-shlib with Fink, do the copy/paste in the updaterconfig.xml file, then I downloaded the or_lighting_portal.xml file

Now I\'m at 33% and going.

I\'ve got the same thing, having downloaded the updater, edited the XML file, and downloaded the other XML file, it doesn\'t open. I now have the library from Fink, and now it opens long enough to give the default \'send to apple\' error message.

Here\'s the dump:

Seems like it\'s asking for the lighting_portal.xml file, which I have downloaded, but I don\'t know.

Make sure that or_lighting_portal.xml is in the right place :) Should be in your /data/shader/ dir.

I suggest someone who has had success with the updater post the way that they did it and all the liks to the extra downloads the made.

I am very surprised that you guys are having trouble with a missing libdl.. that was one of the libraries that I was specifically trying to include.

Most likely explanation for the missing shader file is that I have updated my own data files using a working install of crystal space, while everyone else is stuck with old stuff.  I will look at the possibility of adding a self-contained copy of the necessary CS data within the updater app, so that it cannot break itself.

Thanks for all you patience!,
Daniel

Sorry about the libdl problems, guys.  I set up libdl, libcrypto and libssl properly within the application bundle, but did not tell the updater binary to look for them there.

What I don\'t understand is why I could start the updater with all the fink libraries relocated to somewhere inaccessible.. I am glad you all seem willing to put up with such a tedious process!

Thanks,
Daniel

EDIT: I will take a \"lunch break\" from work in about an hour or so and upload the fixed updater.  Hopefully someone (e.g. Talad) will be able to replace the broken version with a version that DOES NOT require manual installation of dlcompat-shlibs.  The or_lighting file will still be required.

EvilWeezul666: Please wait until a new version of the updater is posted, if your system does not have any of the libraries manually installed it should be a good test of whether I done it right this time!

Thanks,
Daniel

fink does a lot of pathsetups during install, thats why the updater could find the libs

What I did was rename /sw to something completely different, which was always sufficient to throw off the vorbis libraries.. but who knows, maybe I just wasn\'t paying attention.

The link that Xordan provided for the or_lighting_portal.xml file is password protected. Any other link that I would be able to use?
Title:
Post by: dfryer on December 10, 2004, 10:13:24 pm
The password is the usual one for things like this, and can be found in the updaterconfig.xml file where it lists off the different mirrors.

Thanks dryfer, had no idea those mirrors were listed there.

It looks like both you and cha0s have the same problem.  I am not entirely sure what the cause is, or why it only happens to you guys.

Have either of you ever been able to get past?  What happened between then and now?

Thanks,
Daniel

It works fine for me.

EDIT:

Well, the updater, at least.  I\'m having some trouble \"requesting world\" on the loading screen.

Just so everyone\'s on the same page...

Has anyone gotten the updater or the client to work without resorting to fink?

Updater works for me, but I\'m stuck loading the Hydla Plaza
Title:
Post by: AthensBoy on December 11, 2004, 07:01:04 pm
I just thought that I\'d add that the updater keeps downloading the same files for me, too, in addition to me being stuck in the load screen for Hydlaa Plaza.

***EDIT***

I got a message one time about the server being shut down, but I don\'t know if that was because it timed out or not. I haven\'t been able to get that message to come up again.

The client didn\'t crash, though, when it came up until I clicked on \"OK\".

Ok excuse me if I\'m being totally backward here but I had to go away for a few days - now I\'m back and trying to download the updater from the address in Talan\'s initial post but getting a 404.. has it been taken down?

I am experiencing the same problem (I too have been absent for a few days)
Perhaps you should visit the #planeshift-alpha2 channel (see the mac users irc thread) and bug dfryer or Talad. I am fairly resigned to not having enough RAM for any degree of playability :S

I\'m confused about how to get onto xordan\'s link- Where is the password? I looked in updaterconfig.xml but couldn\'t see anything of use. Thanx for your time,

hmm this thread is old ,december it seems so why do you have to resurrect it?it will not solve our actual problem so please wait and read before posting
anywhere.
i can understand that you wanna play but believe me the best thing to do right now is to wait and when you ll see lot of posts and threads like \"i finally get in\" \"it works wooohoo\" \"i am a lucky duck\" then read those threads.
thank you ...

The updater is now packaged in the main binary. Also, you can use my updater available in my guide: A Guide to Running Planeshift on Mac OS X (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=14416&boardid=33&styleid=3&sid=36e0e1bf493e95a7db10502c28a17a8c)

A plea to all mods that might hear: Please move the above thread to this forum and sticky it. Also put another sticky on the CB Bugs forum linking to this one. Thank you!
