Just wondering if you can sit on a chair in this game.
I mean in alot of games you can just use an acion \"sit\" and you\'ll sit on the ground, but in most of them you can\'t sit on a chair.
When you look at this pic: http://www.planeshift.it/pix/pics/screens/tavern1.jpg
You\'re seeing alot of chairs, but it seems like you can\'t jump on it and than sit. And In my opninion it would kinda suck if you can only stand in this tavern.
Just wondering what you all think and if someone could answer my question.
-
Now that you mention it. You\'re right. Sitting on chairs would be somewhat cool. It was one thing that really annoyed me in Morrowind.
Can\'t imagine something funnier as sitting in a tavern and talking to friends
-
Things like this (and more \'emote\' animations like the /greet we already have) are planned, but not yet in CB.
-
/greet will greet people, /set will pribably let you sit, but not on a chair. You would need to jump on it and than use /sit but that sucks. Specials if you lool at the pic of the tavern jumping on the chair is simply not possible.
You would need to right click on a chair and than there shold become a \"sit\" option. when you click on \"sit\" you\'ll see a small animation and than voila you\'re sitting :)
-
World of Warcraft covered this \"sitting\" in an interesting fashion. :D You could simply bind a key for sitting, like X, and then sit anywhere in the world whenever you like just by hitting X. As for sitting on a chair, if you moused over a chair a golden gear would appear next to the pointer. If you clicked the chair with the golden gear next to the mouse, the game would lag for a second, and then you would appear on the chair, sitting. The lag might have been my connection, but when you got close to the chair and clicked, it processed and then you were sitting in the chair. Great for sitting next to the coffee table by the fire in the inn and chatting with friends. :D To get off the chair I think you just had to move and you would get up and regain movement of your character.

If you look here: http://www.planeshift.it/pix/pics/screens/t_tavern4.jpg
It looks like everyone is really desperate to sit down :)
-
I would really like to have this feature. However, as the WoW example shows, it is easier said than done, which is why other games don\'t have it.
-
Another MMOG(neocron) has sitting in a chair, too. But there you cant sit anywhere else. IIRC the interface is use the chair(a right click on the chair) and you sit in the chair. You can look around, and the upper body moves accordingly, but movement is blocked. To leave you have to use the jump, which results in you standing in front of the chair. I dont remember if there was an animation.
It especially nice if you sit in a meeting on a table, cause when talking the models moved their arms/hands and had generic talking mouth.
-
Would also be cool if by sitting at a table your actually joining a somewhat private conversation. So you could sit with your \"friends\" and chat. Seems more logical this way to me. Perhaps if there is one seat empty you could ask the people already sitting if its alright to sit with them. If they agree then you join their conversation if your denied your not able to sit.
-
No thats sucks, I mean when you stand you\'re also able to hear. I shouldt matter if you stand or sit, so no private chat when you sit.
I\'m wondering....
What if you don\'t add an animation but that you just sit immeditately...
First you stand, than the x and y co?rdiantes for the player will be the same as the (x,y) of the chair, than the char\'s model should change in a sitting one, and with a z co?rdinate (height?), that separates from every person.
Than moving will be dissabled, and voila.
(The chair should be moved a few places back when someone is sitting on it otherwise you\'ll have a problem with the table.
Is that so hard to add?
I don\'t have many experience with 3D, crystal place etc., i\'m just a newbie in programming but it doesnt sound that hard :/

If the sound track is half decent then there should be sufficient background noise to provide atmosphere. So instead of sitting in silence trying to keep up with a chat log thats full of text from people you dont want to chat to your sitting at a table with a relevant conversation going on but without compromising the feel of a tavern.
True that you can also hear conversations going on when you stand but if the conversations are not of any interest to you then you generally dont listen in. More often than not when your accompanied by other people whom you know or have just met you talk to them rather than eaves drop on other peoples discussions like a muppet.

Thats why PS should add the \"text above head\" chat, aswell as in the box.
Than you\'ll only see the chat of ppl at the table, but if you want to can also listen what other people say in the chat box.
(see the wish list topic about \"text above heads\")

Sitting in chairs at the tavern would be really cool, and it would add a great deal to the roleplaying too. I have no Experience in 3D modelling so I dont really know how difficult it would be to create a such thing, but the sitting down/rising up animation doesnt have too be too great.
-
Wont animation become easy since they now have skeleton based models?
-
WoW doesn\'t have problems with sitting. I didn\'t have any issues with lag when I tried to sit on a chair. It was pretty simple. Right click on the chair and your character is placed on the chair. When you move, you get up off the chair. Not sure why other games would have problems with sitting. You just have to keep track of whether a chair is currently being sat on, and you\'d need to calibrate the positioning/orientation of each race relative to the chair while sitting, and of course sit animation/pose for each race, and then you just have to make sure the chairs are setup in a place that won\'t clip when any of the races sit on it. You also don\'t need an animation for the process of sitting - just \"teleport\" the player to the chair like WoW does it (just require the char be close to the chair to sit on it).

I AGREE WITH THE ~Top Head~ TALK
It\'s the most ~not annoying~ way to chat, u just ~hear~ what u want... better than a General talk window, with Superman\'s ear to listen what every one shout from the otter side of the country....

Thats fine if everyone is in view. But what if you need to \"move your head\" to see the text above other peoples heads?

Also with the above head talking people can\'t whisper in your ear if your in first person view.
