Title: allllrighty then..
Post by: [wicked]WizzardGod on June 13, 2002, 03:58:27 am
... and to start.. Improvments needed

Faster SERVER!!!!...  whatcha running on Cable/DSL line? shared I bet too :] ..( feels like I am signing on to a frigin\' 9600 classic) note: don\'t allow people to use your \"main\" server while in test, send a pre-mini server for people to use, or build it in the game and create a guest auto account like you have on your main server so when they play in the world you have it bi-pass the login screen and just allow to demo for now.. you know?

2nd some people aren\'t alligned right, meaning the guy I picked in the start screen, isn\'t the guy that came out in the game :]

3rd... well where the hell is the source so others can start playing with it? I\'ve read a few notes here.. about how to make it commercial freeware and crap, and all I have to say to that, is no matter what game, what software program, or what isp, there will always be that one bored person that will find a hole that will give him FULL access to the server, full access to peoples computers, full access to bi-pass the paying system of an account.. something.. like ao-hell has had, like MSN, like diablo and verious games, like Asherons Call.. and so so so many others.. you can\'t stop a hacker/cracker from getting in, you can just make him think more :] .. any ways.. do enjoy..I would like to see the source up for everyone else can play with, maybe create a sign up area for people to register and to get your source? something, so others can help you in their few minutes/hours they might have bored, wanting to program and shit like that.. I noticed you want to keep this controled, how ever, open, so how can that work, you can try to keep things the way you want it, but you can\'t always expect the best results.. open it up aready, and allow others to play..

well brad, read more before u complain:).  There are three races availible right now, my life is betting u ended up as a dwarf.  and they cant just instant upgrade the server, it was offered for free, get ur own butt up and buy a faster service, im getting NO lag on cable.  and as for hacking, no one is stupid enough to, cuz if they are caught i no a few devs that wont hand the hacker over to the police:)

one, I have a Dual DSL line :] .. the slight bit of lag I feel, so, I do have my own ass up, so ha, and can\'t update the server why not? I am a programmer myself, Cryptologist as a matter of fact, and I seek to differ on that \"updating server\" crap.. should be set to a easy cfg file 1=dwarf 2=knight 3 so on, and player side send the number, less packets sent, better off :] ..

Also hacking, lol.. serious you think hackers are often caught? you are talking about lame crackers... read up on your knowledge on that end :] might be of some use to you.. also stupid enough to.. lol.. that\'s pretty funny to read that.. it\'s not stupidity that drives a hacker, it\'s how much knowledge you can gain out of it, cracker .. just a little down , they just want to catch some bugs and crap.. fun things like that :] .. see if they can clone you and see about 2 of you on, or any way to exploit the server, and catch a packet or 2, with their passwords/user names. and delete the shit.. maybe even catch the admin\'s and have control and kill the server? oh shoot.. I helped you out in learning something about those people.. damnit ;) .. but think of the world like this, no one ever has the power to be better, only think they are ;) :]..

Duel DSL isnt bad, u shouldnt get lag on that, and most hackers dont get caught, but if u dare even tap into the smallest file in my computer, ill hunt u down, and trust me, it wont be hard, u wouldnt be the first to try. I respect your opinion, but i got my own to.

Ok.  I have learned one thing from this thread:  Never ask a \"cryptologist\" to program anything for me.  :-)

I will now attempt to address a couple of the points in these messages, just in the interests of getting the thread to stop.

1. The server is on a DS3 line (try 100 DSLs or so) and is less than 2% taxed on either cpu or bandwidth.  It isn\'t breaking a sweat at all.  Also, the developers do not test against it, because the network protocol is constantly evolving and the version on that server is about a month old at this point.

2. Others have pointed out, and it is well documented, that only 3 races are in this preliminary tech demo.  RTFM dude.

3. The source is where 39,000 other projects have their source.  On SourceForge.Net.  Good luck building it.

4. We are not going to hand hackers over to the police, btw.  Let\'s get real.  Police barely chase after stolen cars anymore, let alone script kiddies getting unauthorized access to a *free* game.

5. We do spend a lot of time on the security of the game, and I will be very suprised with all the input we get, if the game is not VERY secure.

6. If you are getting lag or slow frame rates in the game, it is due to your video card or lack of RAM or something, not bandwidth.  I would suggest making sure you have up to date drivers and such.

See ya,
