Title: server shutdown by GM
Post by: Kwip on December 16, 2004, 07:22:03 pm
Right after I connected to the server today people started quiting, then the server shutdown saying that it was shutdown by GM.  Afterwards when talking to a fellow PSer he said that the GM told everyone to quit to save their character.  Does this mean that my char is not saved, since the server shutdown while I was still on?

I know that everyone will have to create a new char for CB, but I was wondering if my char was not saved will I not be able to reserve the name if something is wrong with the account and not be able to create a new account in MB if the databases have my name on file.

I just wanted to know if I would have to rush and create a char with my name before someone else does when CB is out.

Just saw the news that the server is down for good and that the migration to CB will begin soon.

I just hope that those that were still on when it shut down will be able to reserve their names. *looks nervously*

After the migration is done, will will make few more tests, and then we will finally release. We don\'t know yet how much time will take for those final tests.

Your guess is as good as mine :)

Basically will be a web page where you enter in your character name/password and email address.

Note that the migration will *ONLY* cover the name and crystal counts.  It will not cover the character itself.  You will have to create a new account and then create a new player using the same MB name.

But would there be a problem if we were still on the server when it shut down?

Not totally sure.  Will find out when we try the migration system.  If you were just online then should be no problem.  If you just created your charcter then probably still no problem.  We will see.

Thanks for the information acraig!

The only reason I was wondering is because my friend said something about the GM telling people to save their chars, otherwise I would not had worried.  :D

Sorry for tainting this joyous event with my worries.

Well, he meant for people to log out which should make sure that you didn\'t loose anything for your current play session.  I don\'t think that this is an issue in MB since it was hitting the database all the time.   In CB database hits are less frequent ( usually on logout for a character ).

Randalp GM probably stands for Game Master or something like that ;)

Pretty sure GM is game moderator.  (As opposed to FM or forum moderator)

Randalp, I am sorry I have to tell you this but I believe that the quests were just done to have the feeling of having done them.  This is at least the information I got when someone asked what they got for having done a quest.  Sorry....

hmmz weird because on the website it says we will reward anyone who finishes the quest or something like that

edit:
it says in the player guide under the npc section: \"We will reward everyone that finds and complete the quest.\"

Quest rewards were given manually, and the results of who completed them the fastest was posted on the news a long long time ago. There\'s no quest rewards anymore because the devs have far more important things to be doing. Besides, those quests/competitions are incredibly old now. :P

Yes, GM is Game Moderator. They\'re sort of lower-admins who take care of players ingame, helping them with technical issues (like characters getting stuck inside boxes) and organising special events.

Well can?t be right every time...
i surely hope that not all quest are made so the fastest gets the prize...

Quests in CB will be done \'properly\', I assure you. :P The rewards will be given automatically when you complete a quest, rather than relying on the admins to look at the logs and do it manually.

The first step of the migration to CB is to sell all your items, so those get converted to gems. Please use this page to convert your items, if you don\'t remember which items you had, just select one and click on sell, the next page will tell you which items your inventory contains. All items not converted to gems will be lost during migration to CB. Please do it now!

New update on the site to sell all your stuff at the merchant (http://planeshift.fragnetics.com/merchant/merchantsell.html), in prep for the conversion!
