Title: Holiday drops
Post by: TravXl on December 19, 2004, 12:40:11 am
what i mean by this is when items drop mysticaly around the PS world on a certian holiday (christmas, easter or halloween)
but not only would they have to be main holidays it coulod also be somthing like a holiday when a new Octarch is admitted and the old one dies or the release date could be disucsed as the PS worlds christmas.  what are your opinions?

Hmm... sounds okay. That could be good, but at the moment there are not any holidays for PS that I know of...

What about things like santa hats that could be dropped by certain monsters, and could only be worn for a few days around christmas?

You seem to be forgetting that this is an MMORPG not some game for little kiddies, eg. runescape.
These drops only make people start to complain and alot of players wont be at home during certain holidays.

santa hats would be kinda no existant is PS cos santa wouldent be theres it would be ours so something new to look foward to like summer harvest or talad day.
Title:
Post by: Satha on December 19, 2004, 01:05:23 am
Talad day could be fun. It could be that you dress like talad for a day XD
Title:
Post by: TravXl on December 19, 2004, 01:13:27 am
that would be fun but very confusing cos everyone would look the same i was thinking of some floats a feast and music with dancers al that stuff.

I can understand something like that, as long as it stays RP. No Easter Bunnies or Santa Clauses.

No drops though. Baaad....

i think that they would be fun but not as much drops as a big party or ceremony at the temple

Ooh I have a good idea for a holiday. It could be \"Osta Hawana\" Or Norithian for \"Chasing of Demon\". We could get one person to dress as laanx, then all the angry townsfolk could chase the \"Laanx\" agrily into the dungeon. Afterward, the towns persons would rejoice and have ale and cake. :D

Post by: TravXl on December 19, 2004, 01:25:34 am
that sounds fun but wot happens to the person dressed up as laanx if it was npc could u pick up its cloths to sell of put in a room and if it was a player same question.

Good question, these robes would be chosen by a council or a popular vote for the person to wear them. The clothes would be useless and would not be worth anything to merchants. However the robes would stay in the inventory untill the next \"Osta Hawana\" when the robes would automaticaly be taken from the last person\'s inventory and given to the next person voted \"laanx\".

Post by: TravXl on December 19, 2004, 01:33:59 am
i think it would be better keep the robes for prosperity and something to hang on your wall in your house. also you would want to keep it cos it would be very rare you getiing picked to be laanx, and what happens to the person in the cave do they have to stay there untill the end of the celebration or can they just take the robes off and join the party, it would be good if they had to stay in the caves as a kinda punishemnt.

hmmmm........

Santa hat drops? Sounds like a game I used to know....

Think of all the trouble that caused them - I recall a certain notice about the complaints taking the mailserver down.  Also another notice about traffic limits.

While I think that the celebration of holidays would put a lot more life into the game, I don\'t think anything should be dropped.  The value of drops would escalate far too much, destroying the realism - after all has anybody ever offered you $75,000 US for a santa hat ?

Holidays should be celebrated with dancing in the streets, new music, ribbons etc.  but no items should be dropped. \"Perishable\" food and drink might be a possibility - it dissapears after 24hours.

1)what is with the $75,000
2) maby a raffel wher your name is automaticly put in a drum and like 25 names are drawn and that person gets a prize and i think the food should be free.

sorry, I didn\'t know that t-g-t-s-n-b-n had santa hat drops. Ive never played it, so... But i still dont think it\'s a bad idea, as long as theyre not worth anything, just for looks and being festive. And why cant we have RL holidays in PS?
Title:
Post by: ArcaneFalcon on December 19, 2004, 02:51:09 am
Shadowfalcon:  PS is trying to be more RP oriented.  This means that bringing real life things into PS is a no no.  However, I don\'t see why you can\'t have ooc events and such.  I think it is a great idea (though I was thinking more of  something like putting a Christmas tree and holiday quest in temporarily rather than a cheesy santa hat drop).  Even the RP server on EQ (otherwise known as Firiona Vie server for you EQ\'ers) had holiday events.

two things
1)what is the name of the game that should not be named
2) real holidays would destroy the realisim of it, i am not saying that it shouldnt have real holidays based on our holidays maby they could have a christmas on like the 20 of may of there new years could be on 7 of feb or somthing like that.

If holidays and festivals are implemented they should certainly be very different from those in the real world.

I mean:

Christmas and Easter mean nothing without Christ.
Guy Fawkes - no citizen of the ps world knows that on the 5th of November an anachist tried to blow up the houses of parliament and was later hung, drawn and quartered.
Halloween couldn\'t happen in a world where ghosts and magic are so commonplace - what would there be to celebrate.

But festivals such as the Chasing the Demon festival and Otarch Day would bring variety to Planeshift.

on another point say that PS has a Chrismas based holiday would there be weather patterns such as the enitre town is covered in snow and everyhouse has decritive lamps outside of there house.

i have the perfect holiday to celebrate in PS! CB release festival! An anual celebration in comemoration of the day CB was released. It would also appear to coincide with christmas... :D
Title:
Post by: TravXl on December 19, 2004, 03:14:01 am
yeah i was thinking of that but wouldent it be better if it was new years
Title:
Post by: swift on December 19, 2004, 03:24:07 am
I would prefer Christmas - if the release is on New Years I think I will die of boredom.

But an Anniversary Day would certainly be cool.
Title:
Post by: TravXl on December 19, 2004, 03:26:25 am
well since it is getting released around the real christmas i now think it would be better and more fun.

Drop free events might be the best, since anything that is drop based will have complaints an not every player can be present for it.
Even if there are drops the items should be temporary and vanish when one logs off.

I would love to see parades in town.
Title:
Post by: TravXl on December 19, 2004, 08:45:52 am
it would be fun to have a  parade where if u want to enter u get a costume then u can wonder round the grounds and join the festivities

I like this idea , espically because i like free stuff =) , ive heard of this  on some other MMORPG games, ultima online i believe is one that does it also.

I think i good idea would be to have big parades and celebrations every year on the 11th of july. For those of you that dont recognise the significance.

Taken from the news page:
2004.07.11

Searching through our documents and emails, we found the first email send by Talad to the developers to start the PlaneShift 3D project. That email was sent exactly 4 years ago, 11 July 2000. Today is the 4th anniversary of the birthday of PlaneShift 3D! Happy birthday PS!

I do not want to see ideas borrowed from rewnscape ever.  that is the shittyest game ever and i hate it.

and what really annoyes me is when little wankers come onto the game and calle it \"planescape\" cause they play  r unescape so much.

But it is a good idea, but i wouldent want t to be incorperated with the outside world.

I can\'t tell if you were tyring to break the censoring or something else...

I used to call this game PlanetShift.. little did I know...

All we need to do is invent PS holidays, though I think for players sake most specials should last atleast 2-3 days... single day events should be in-significant and localized.

first of all i hate runescape i think it is S$%t and seccond of all many games use holiday drops and third and finaly what the hell is with the planescape thing?

i think he was trying to complain about jerks playing this after playing spoonscape thinking its funny to call this game planescape but it really boils his potatoes, but dont get distracted by that what did u think about my idea for new years eve kind of celebrations on the 10/11 july as mentioned in the post above davo

Local festivals should be a must - that way party-addicted players could travel around the world to see the lot .

Festivals should be of varying character - drunken parties to the invite only balls of the upper classes (mug some npc for a ticket or sneak/bust in).

But I\'m  certainly still against permanent, rare drops.  If anything is given out, it should be fairly common eg. Chocolate Cake and readily available.  Hyper inflated prices will ruin the game - just look at WoW, Lineage, Conquer, Tibia, Everquest etc.

Common items will work out to, so no one liked temporary drops which vanish when you logoff?
I thought temporary drops would be nice since then you can litter the area with it or give it out for free and there would be no loss for any player.. or do people think that they want to keep festival items for a keepsake?

I like the idea of temporary drops or basic neccisities drops you know ale, cake, ale, meat, ale, did i mention ale. Also maybe for keepsakes they could make them so there very common. If your there when the celebrations are on your almost guarenteed one but they should be untradable so that way if your there you can prove it and there isnt the ridiculous prices for hats and stuff like in other games.

The game that shallnot be named is RuneScape

>.<

Im currently playing it, the way i stumbled ovr this site is of a fan site of runescape.

RuneScape has its highs and its lows.

Holiday drops were one of the worst things what happend to the game.

People making money unfairly. What happened was, on these special occasions (chirstmas, easter + haloween) they dropped items realted to the holday, the first ever i believe was pumpkins on halloween (these simply heal all your Hit Points). Then it was chirstmas crackers on the next christmas, you pulled these, got a party hat + an item or two.

The game came out in around the year 2000. These christms crackers, and party hats are incredible high in value, because they have never been dropeed since, nor can you obtain another one (unless from another player) christmas crackers are 30 Million gp (gold-peices). The average money  of what people have on the game probably cant even afford 1/10 of that. Simply people make money of these simply by picking them up and selling them a couple months later.

I would highly recomend not adding these to your game.

i totlay agree the only way there could be a ps related drop would be if eveyone recived the item like a costume or a special painting or sulpture.
and if everyone had the item them it would take 10 years for it to become rare again so the drop must be inserted into the inventory of eveyone that plays the game.
