Title: Why World of Warcraft is going down the drain
Post by: Ecolem on December 19, 2004, 02:36:30 am
\"If you\'ve been to eBay lately, you\'ll see that people are already auctioning off pretty much anything you can have in game, from gold, to items, to entire accounts. Once this starts to happen on a large scale, the economy will be trashed, and World of Warcraft along with it.

And this isn\'t just limited to the game economy. Who do you think the number one candidates for using bots are? They are the people who want to farm for gold or level characters to sell on eBay. THIS HAS RUINED MANY A MMORPG! It sucks the fun out of the game if you can just pay an extra $25 to start at the end, and then people stop playing and WoW goes bye-bye.

Even if Blizzard is unwilling to flex its corporate muscle and have eBay pull WoW items (Everquest did it, so they could too if they wanted to protect their investment), we can still try and get it stopped. \"

EDIT:Making this more clear...Quoted by a post in the WoW forums & Not what i wrote.

As you can clearly see...not worth playing(and paying!)

Title:
Post by: Ecolem on December 19, 2004, 02:41:04 am

But my point is, is that things are geting a bit out of hand. I mean WHO would actully pay REAL money for game money!!

BTW goto Ebay (http://www.ebay.com) and type in
\"World of Warcraft\" and you will get what i am saying :D

Q: Why is World of Warcraft going down the drain ?
A:  Because Planeshift Crystal Blue should be out in a couple of weeks, and there are no costs, monthly or otherwise, and it quite plainly is better.

:)) :)) :))

\"World of WarCraft! Powerleveling! Any Server Alliance or Horde!

Here, we just introduce No-stop powerleveling service.  Level 1-15 Only $34.95

During World of Warcraft No-stop powerleveling period, your character will be leveled by our one master players 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, operating at the highest efficiency so that your character will reach the desired level in the timeframe you\'ve specified. This is why our Normal Powerleveling service is the fastest way for you to bypass boredom and get to have fun.

Surprising : After powerleveling, you often can get good equipment and some golds because you can keep all items and golds from powerleveling. How good the equipment and how many golds you will have depend on how long you use our service. \"

Unbelievable...

BTW, WoW broke records for selling , and a wolrd record for MMO. 250,000 bought it the first day, 200,00 accounts created :D

Look up Star Wars Galaxies.. ppl sell money there too. When I was playing WoW I saw a sword for sell on ebay :P
Title:
Post by: Shadowfalcon on December 19, 2004, 02:54:46 am
I didnt believe it, so I searched eBay for World of Warcraft. Most of the items are people selling gold in WoW, as well as guides for setting up bots. Its unbelievable...

*Dies laughing*
Dude, have you ever heard of player auctions (referring to the website)?  Apparently not.  Getting the EQ stuff off of ebay did absolutely nothing.  And you know what, EQ\'s economy hasn\'t gone down the drain.  I think you\'re overreacting.  And besides, did you actually expect a game as big as WoW to not have people selling characters, items, PL\'ing, and game money for real money?  That\'s pretty much common place nowadays.  If PS gets big you will see it happen there too.  Just wait.

Only idiots sell items for real money and only even more idiotic people buy them.
Title:
Post by: sashok on December 19, 2004, 03:20:28 am
heck, I don\'t agree. People actually work this way... I believe it\'s a good investment :D  seriously.  Sure, it kills the RP, gets dedicated RPers mad, but other than that it doesn\'t do anything bad to economy, or anything else.

Those people who buy gold and items know what they are doing.. they have enough real money, it may be nothing to them, who knows.   Then they actually do have some real fun because they didn\'t have to spend months developing their chars to get to that point.

Personally, would never do it because I\'m dedicated RPer.  But I don\'t judge those who do it...

Post by: swift on December 19, 2004, 03:21:25 am
Not sure about that Syzerian - looking at the eBay auctions it seems rather profitable ($50 for some game money).

But I certainly agree that trading game money for real money harms the game, and is or will be the downfall of commercial games.

Seeing as planeshift is open source, we will have to work doubly hard to prevent this, as many people could find out how to give their characters an advantage.

Looks like is selling stuff on auction sites wont last much longer. And it says that selling money and items  is killing the economy which i agree with.

Blegh, two game companies that I started to hate a few years ago:

- Lucas Arts - because they stopped making good adventure games, and just making StarWars sequels to sequels to sequels
- Blizzard - for complete unoriginality and just playing on the \"everybody knows the name Warcraft\" card :P ...war3 was a disappointment, i don\'t even want to get close to WoW

...but then again, that\'s probably just me - play what you like, it\'s your choice.
Title:
Post by: sashok on December 19, 2004, 05:34:48 pm
I spent 3 years playing wc3, making custom games, playing custom games.. etc.  I believe it\'s best game I played in my life.  Why?  Because like I said, it kept my interest and entertained me for 3+ years.
Blizzard is a company that needs to make some cash, jumping warcraft card is smart thing to do because of previous success.

Damn how brain dead has someone to be to buy game money with real money.

Well, what is the point of having a MMORPG, which costs money and sucks, while you can have a MMORPG which is free and is pretty good.
Title:
Post by: Adeli on December 20, 2004, 05:26:49 am
I actually bought WoW yesterday ( well, ordered, they sold out the day before )
I loved the beta, and I don\'t care about others cheating like that... How will it affect me if I join an RP server? I\'m not going to play against them, so I don\'t care.
I might even join a test server, to have some fun trying new things.

That said, I hope blizzard do stop it, Ebay items etc s pathetic.

A cheater is more likely.
It is unfair to buy something others have to strive for...

Title:

Some people don\'t want to sacrifice time to develop in game because they work... Thus they have real cash that they can apply in game.  Since they also want to feel superior in game(natural feelings of uberers) they rather pay some considerate amount of cash for an item or gold...  Ruins economy? No way, this gold was not hacked, it was earned by somebody too, and passed on.

They are. Hey, it wasn\'t said if the equipment was supposed to be real or not ;)

I have to say that you should learn to look for drawbacks in yourselves before looking for them in others.
You are so quick to call others \"idiots\", \"nerds\", \"retards\" and so on, while you are virtually blind to the things that you do.
\"Nerds\"? Hello? You are playing an online role playing game, spending lots of time on it. Many people would consider that being nerd. I could be called \"nerd\" for training in knighthood irl... Should I care about that? No. People saying that are usually half-wits. Seriously, who cares about their opinion? But you people are no better. Make up insults for other people just because their behaviour happens to be different from yours. They spend real money... big deal. Heard of such phrase as \"time is money\"? You waste time, they waste money.
Furthermore some of them might be working hard to earn the money... earn a lot and want to relax after hard day. Having lots of money and little time, one might want to skip the leveling part.
But hey, why don\'t you attack people who pay-to-play? It\'s pretty much same thing.
Ok, but you were using words such as idiots or retards. So I decided to check how it is with your intelligence.
And here\'s a big surprise: Even after I said the gauntlets are real, people were thinking I\'m talking about in-game equipment.

Fine if you don\'t like it, you can express your feelings, but cut it out with the offending. If someone has lots of money and decides to spend them in that way, why do you make fun of them? Are you jealous? Don\'t aprove behaviour different from yours?
Someone could make fun of you for spending hours in front of computer (you don\'t have life). But it\'s all bs. You like it so why not do it?

Yes, I made fun of some of you
but goddamn you deserved it...

I wouldn\'t say they are sick... rather that you are narrow minded...
I mean what is the point of having money? Most likely to please oneself.
There are many ways to spend money. First of all to buy food and pay for other necessary things. But then you spend them on whatever you want. Some might buy even paintings or collect various things. What do they get from it? Well not much. Only personal pleasure.
But some people buy game money with it... actually get to save some time... wow... how sick...

Every single MMORPG worth its name out there has had problems with people selling stuff via the internet. UO, EQ, EQ2, Lineage, Lineage2, DAoC, WoW, Shadowbane, you name it.

The fact that Blizzard puts its foot down shows that they are serious about this, but there is no way that they can stop people from trading ingame cash for real cash. People will find different ways of doing it.

Cybio buddy, you misread...

$26,500AUD (Australian Dollar) not $26,500PED (Project Entropia Dollar)

He spent REAL  money.
To work it out, $1AUD is about 73c USD.

If it was game dollars (which it\'s not), it would be $3,630USD
It was $363,013PED.
