Title: No more big updates!
Post by: Enter_the_Xero on December 24, 2004, 12:33:57 am
There should be no more \"big\" updates (like MB to CB then to SB) that we need to wait a few years to get. There should be patches /and/or/ upgrades /and/or/ addons every two weeks or every month from now on. It would really be better in terms of people getting impatient. And it will also make PS evolve faster and all players happy to see new updates so often. Who is with me on this? Who is not? Who thinks peeling potatoes is a good way to go crazy?

Be patient man, there will be smaller updates that add content and/or fix bugs and soforth.
Let\'s just wait for CB until we start ranting about the next release/update...

you get what you pay for...oh right, PS is free... so be thankful you are even allowed anywhere near the game at this stage. stop thinking this is a \"real\" game, its still in a development stage (even CB), something you never see from other game publishers. there are plenty of mmorpgs around, if you don\'t like the way PS is being developed then go elsewhere and let the people who like things the way they are enjoy their RPing in peace.

Wow, I nominate you for the best newbie of the year. Seriously people, this game is free for one so don\'t complain like you have some sort of right to play it. 2 the devs can do whatever they please, and whatever route they take, I and the rest of the planeshift die hard crew will definally be there sticking with the dev\'s descisions.

I would like to add that PS is free because the devs are not paid to do it. This is not their job, but a project they work on in their spare time. Their lives do not revolve around a few impatient people.

...unless you kidnap their loved ones....

(Please note:  This message in no way endorses kidnap or associated crimes as a legitimate means of speeding development of PS or any other associated or non associated games.  )

I think smaller updates more often is the way to go as well.   But there will be some complications involved with this and will require some good planning.  For example, 2 groups are working on 2 different areas.  One team is finished in a week but the other team still needs another 2 weeks to complete. What to do?   Do we somehow \'disable\' what the second team is working on and release that or do we wait.  It\'s a good idea but hard to implement :)

Maybe(if it is at all possible) if one team finishes before the other, they could help the other team to finish whatever they are working on faster.
Ih dunno.

yeah i mean how would you introduce the combat system in small patches?  Better off all at once.  Plus it would be annoying if you had to download like a 1mb patch every day, id rather download a 30mb one once a month.

A 1 MB patch is the least of our problems... I think re-compiling once a week is too much for more distros to want to dedicate their staff to... even on gentoo it would be alot of compiling, actually.... I don\'t know how to use binary patches...
Graphical updates should be easier to do then the others. Functionality releases will probably be a little farther apart to introduce a full feature set.
But that is only my selfish opinion.

1) Not once a week, once in two weeks or a month

2) Aint, the new version easy to patch//upgrade? (Downloading CB STILL)
