Title: Training Skills
Post by: Crash on December 26, 2004, 09:43:52 pm
I am really confused about the whole training system. I already read the player guide which kinda helped and confused me even more. Each stat has like 4 different color bars in it which makes it soo much more confusing. I think i have an idea of how it works but id rather someone to clearify it for me before i mess up something. I greatly appreciate any help on this.

Thanks in advance.

BLUE bar is you progression points (meanin if its all the way across you have enought to do all of that training)
RED is incomplete, YELLOW is theory to learn, once all theory is learnt it turns GREEN after that go and fight more monsters and the green bar wil go up more (GREEN is practical) until it gets to the end and you get a lvl up on that stat, the process will repeat for the next level
Title: Humm training what's all that about then!

Ya this kinda hurts my head too!

Atm I\'m a thief (I screwed my char gen big-time) and killed some defenseless rat beasts for two progress points. I then went to the magic shoppe and bought two skills in \'the dark way\'. my green bar moved up slightly (but only a very small bit) into the yellow but I didn\'t level up. Was this a silly thing to do? is it impossible (or at least v.hard to become a semi-magic user type spellsword?)

can you advance in skills without training? I.e advance in the sword skills just by fighting monsters alone?

On a comic note I got killed by the Carkcass (sp?) in the death realm for 3890 hit points :D

Oh btw I\'m settin\' up shop selling potions in dsar Akkaio if anyone wants to drop by...

EDIT: OMG! that sounds complicated Demar! /me pouts

~simplified~

Kill monsters for exp
exp gets to 100% = Prog point
~ repeat for desired amount of prog points
go to ye ol trainer that you desire
Train in which stat you want till all yellow goes all green
go fight more monsters (using the skill that uses that stat) ie dark way would be dark magic :p
~~repeat until cahtbox shows message \'you gained a point in swords\' or whatever
~~repeat until at desired level

:)

Then what does it mean when you are fighting a monster and it says \"you have gained some practice points for sword\" or something like that?

For that it must say \"You have gained some practice points for sword! You have also ranked up!\"\"

you need to put at least 4 points into swords before you have a chnace to level up, so it will take a while.

can you get progression points by not fighting? killing rats at the glorius damage of 1.00-2.5 (if i\'m lucky) isn\'t really cutting it.. as i would like to level mining and blacksmith some.. without spending hours in the sewers to do so

forest-i believe combat is the only way to get progression points currently i may be mistaken but im pretty sure

luex-rats are in the sewer-one entrance is behind the tavern-a big hole in the ground consult moogie\'s guide for more on the sewer

so i would level mining by training it.. getting the yellow bar to cover all the red bar? then going out and mining until the green bar covers the yellow bar?and blacksmith the same way i guess?

you use prog points to buy skill untill the yellow is covered in green THEN you go out and train by mining

ahh ok i had it backwards kinda.. i do like the theoritical and practical being seprate.. makes it seem more real instead of \"you dig gold for 15 exp.. LEVEL UP!\"

I have just bought an animal-glyph, and purified it. But I still can\'t cast any spells. What do I have to do now?

Yes....

lvl 10 is also with me the most I can get...(and I know a few others who have it aswell).

To Cast spells:

Open Magic book. Put your glyph down, and press the seccond buttun: Save spell. (then the spell will be in your spell book)*

* I\'m a dwarf.....so don\'t trust me too much about the spell thing.

And to keep this threat going:

Why does it cost me (as dwarf) 22 PP to become lvl 1, while other dwarfs need much less. ???????????

Those guards by the tavern will be able to help you with your training
