Title: Guild looking for members.
Post by: Valbrandr on December 27, 2004, 12:02:50 pm
We have a new site:

http://plexus.shacknet.nu/ps/index.php

New Developments

We now have 13 members with another five ready to join.

Valbrandr   Induane   Hyrcanus   Norgil   Riffstorm

Lecohore   Nimble   Groll   Sundavar    Ghostwarrior

Garnett   Lishom   Dunthor

Goals

Our goals have somewhat changed.  We have become more of a direct democracy (only rule is you cannot depose your leader, lol) .  We need inteligent souls to help us get organized and plenty of feedback.  We also have no requirements for joining our guild.  The more people we attract the more dominance we will have not to mention that by joining this guild (or any other) the player will just feel more involved and in addition will want to participate more.

We charish loyalty here.  We expect people to be as loyal as they can be (however, if you want out of the guild we will not shun you).  Also, any player who joins needs to help whomever they can, especially your other guild members.  We will except all players from the experienced to even n00b players as long as they want to learn and they have good ideas.

One power I, Valbrandr, do have is the ability to make alliances.  Our alliances have to be followed by all members.  And treat members from our alliances like you would treat our own guild members.  Greet them and help them if you can.

The Sentinels of the Ragnarok:

Our History:

The end of humanity had come and gone with the final battle, Ragnarok, between the Norse Gods and the evil giants from Muspelheim. The world regressed and fell into a terrible ice age. The last two humans wandered down from the Yggdrasil tree in a sullen attempt at replenishing the world. Hope had been lost? At the threshold of death, this man and women prayed to their fallen Gods for solace. This prayer awakened the final three Einharjar from their slumber in Valhalla. They had been put to sleep by the great Odin who knew the destiny of the Gods. These three brave Einharjar, Valbrandr, Induane, and the all-knowing Hyrcanus, who had been imbued with the memory of Munin, bestowed upon these two humans a time without hunger, without bitter cold, and without suffering. They came to be known as the Triumvirate. The Triumvirate became the protectors of the righteous in an attempt to restore humanity to the dismal land.

Time slowly passed human recollection. And what had been made good gradually turned bitter. The humans began to struggle against one another in order to fulfil their aspirations for knowledge and power. The Triumvirate wanted to provide guidance for the people. This was no easy task for the human?s wills had been broken and their faith had diminished. These humans knew that their ancestors could not escape the ecstasy of warfare under their Gods. If the Gods could not bring peace to the lands of the Northmen, how was a Triumvirate of Einharjar going to bestow peace upon the land. This was a fair question because these Einharjar had very little physical power compared to that of the Gods. However, there was one major difference between the Triumvirate and the Norse Gods: The Triumvirate was a council of loyal warriors who relied on one another on and off the battlefield. They were three entities with one concise conclusion. In contrast, the Gods meddled in human affairs, they were often divided which caused them to fight amongst themselves and would habitually spill over into the lands of Midgard, and their goal was to keep man subservient to the will of the Gods.

The Triumvirate took a different approach. They wanted to grant man absolute freedom in which humans would obtain knowledge for the continuation of the evolutionary process. With their progression would come peace to their lands. This was difficult for the people to grasp, possibly too idealistic for a world ruled by the rationale of humans. There was widespread anarchy for a time followed by a period of divisions and blind hatred between classes and races. The Triumvirate finally decided to assert their authority in an indirect way.

They thought that if they could trick all peoples of the hierarchy into working together for a common good that peace would win over greed and intolerance. They created Planeshift. All people were encouraged to participate in a journey throughout the lands of the world. These people, referred to as Sentinels, were to find ancient artifacts and information on the battle of the Ragnarok. They were to retell the story of the Ragnarok and come to a conclusion on why it happened and who was at fault. For their travels, they would receive immortality but not in life, through death. Their deeds will be remembered through a legendary story: The Saga of the Einharjar.

Mission Statement:

This guild, The Sentinels of the Ragnarok, is a Chaotic aligned guild that will accept a variety of different members regardless of their class or race. We want to maximize the experience of Planeshift on our way to become an upper echelon guild who will one day reside in a castle. Our goal is to have fun with this online RPG and make it more fun for the people who join our guild with cool job classes and mobility to become an elite player in the guild.

New Developments

Everything has changed.  We have made major changes that are going to stick.  Maybe youll like it.  We are still ruled by a Triumvirate, however, Each person in the Triumvirate heads a different Order.  There wil be three Orders: The Norse Berserkers, The Warriors of Quetzalcoatl, and the Genji Master.

Norse Berserkers - All current members are apart of this Order until the hierarchy is finished.

5. Liege Lord - Participate in the Feudal system of Vassalage. Have the ability to recruit Feudal Lords to your service, create a small army. (With the permission of the Triumvirate) Three new Orders have been created.
Each will be ruled by a Liege Lord: The Hospitalers, Knights Templar, and Teutonic Knights.

4.Lord - Participate in the Feudal system of Vassalage. Have the ability to recruit Knights to your service, create a small army.(With the permission of the Triumvirate) Six new Legions have been created each headed by a different Feudal Lord: Berserkers, Gladiators, Highlanders, Militia, Samarai, and Woad Raiders.

3. Knight - Seek and discover the mysteries of Planeshift. Fight for your promotion to Lord.

2. Squire - Venture out and explore your surroundings. Gain experience on the battlefield.

Questionaire

1. Do you like our story? Does it need to be elaborated on?

2. How do you like our Hierarchy?

3. Do you think we need to expand on our mission statement or goals for the guild.

4. What do we need to add?

You can access our website through the following link:

http://www.freewebs.com/thesentinelsoftheragnarok/

and our yahoo group through this link:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thesentinelsoftheragnarok/

The web site is still in beta and will probabily be changing alot during the next few weeks - so check in often!

Also - we would like your input. If you have suggestions about our story, website, guild, heirarchy, etc... anything you can critique, we want to hear it. Even constructive critism is welcome (well actually prefered to \"you suck on rocks you big dumby you are you). Thanks for the input - we appriciate it. Thanks!

So far there has already been some good discussion.

If you\'re going to use the nordic mythology, get used to comments about it being not related to Planeshift. Had that when starting Templars of Steel, so I finally made the story (you might want to check it) and no one seems to whine now...

The only issue i see is that you have guards who rank higher than lords, thats just strange, perhaps, change the top guards to a hero definition, after all the entire guild would protect its leaders.

Wouldn\'t this be good since its trying to save people? A neutral person would be like... too lazy....to have worthy cause.....get somone else....to do it.

maybe change some lord to Varangian...

Origionally posted by Draklar:

yeah, I might be wrong here, but weren\'t Varagian Guards ruled by Varagians? If so you could rename lord to that...

Quote

Origionally posted by Valbrandr:

That is somewhat true. The first Varagians were ruled by Rurik who founded Novgorod. He was a Varagian however, later they became an elite unit sworn to the protection of the Byzantine Emporer. I will consider the change. I do not have it on my website yet but under Feudal Lord I am going to make six sub classes. One is Berserker, maybe the Lord of the Berserkers can be promoted to the Supreme Lord.

I found this one humorous:

That\'s so not true! I\'d argue my point, if I wasn\'t too lazy....

Who says neutrals are lazy?

OOC:
The site looks a little basic but that doesn\'t matter, i would change the font color though, if you are goin to use a light background take a dark color for the text, this hurts my eyes after a while.

- we probabily will be making some more changes soon so it won\'t appear so basic - thanks for posting.

Thank you all for the discussion and input.  This is exactly what we need.  We welcome all sorts of members, so feel free to drop by our website:  and to join our guild click on the link on the left of our website labeled \"Forum Groups\" and become a member of our forum group.  If you don\'t  have a yahoo address and don\'t want to have to get one just to join, then simply post in this thread that you are interested and we will find you in game.

Sincerely,

The Sentinels of the Ragnarok

Thanks!

Are you sure.  There were no new posts and and there thread can back up to the top.  Someone must have edited a post or something for that to happen.  If they are thats fine but they may have just been waiting for the new release.  The thread was also just started on 10.03.2004.

Garuma,

Its a pleasure to have someone express interest in our guild.  We are in the process of really establising ourselves, so while we are getting everything organized you can help with some ideas.  We well be starting an MIRC room to do some real-time discussion, so I will keep you informed about that.  So - keep track of your ideas - the more people contributing, the better this will be.  Also - you could head on over to the yahoo group if you have a yahoo address.

groups.yahoo.com/thesentinelsofragnarok

That is where we will be doing our mass e-mailing from.

Thanks for the interest and welcome to the guild!

Im sorry, I only post to reply.  The only reason i would be ahead of you is because of my spat with Seperot.  Other than that there has not been too many.  A lot has come out but thats just because we are doing a lot of work right now.  Sorry to annoy anyone.  Im not trying to control the forum.

Title: No MORE FIRE!
Post by: Induane on December 29, 2004, 03:42:49 am
I sure hope this doesn\'t turn into a flame fest.  We moved our information to a new thread because of all the junk posts from our last one.  We are looking for constructive conversations with a point, not arguments about who posts when, who is laughing at who,  or whatever.  As fun as the flame-fest with seperot was, it gets boreing after a while and accomplishes nothing.

On a similar note we modified the origional post so it wouldn\'t look like we were laughing at dorbians post, in case someone else might have thought that as well.

Anyhoo, take care all and have a happy new year!

i was helping your guild, i gave you the working link to the damn page, damn r u blind or sumthin.

but you want critisism, i think your site is bad, you should fix all the problems at once, i can still find alot of pages with light background and light text, the icons are badly done, even for a beta fase of a site, i can go on for bout half an hour but i bet you would say it\'s just a beta.

ohw and you should still worship me and hand over your soul.

What do you mean you see light backgrounds.  All the backgrounds should be a very dark blue (Except for the Triuvirate page).  I wonder if it still not working.  And I do not work on the layout of the Page that is done by Induane and he was out of town through Christmas.  And thank you for the link to our forum it does help, but the rest of the time you have been devouring my guild one by one piece by piece until we beg for mercy.

Thank you very much Exaero_Fiero.  I finally identified the bug.  The problem is that the bodybg color codes are different in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.  I sometimes forget that most people still use IE since I don\'t know anyone anymore who does.  I had origionally made the background image transparant, so setting a background color for it would be as simple as a color code in HTML.  Since it appears to be a problem, I changed the background to have a texture instead of being transparant so it will render the same no matter what web browser is used.   I am uploading the new background now, so here in about 5 minutes would anyone who reads this go test it out and let me know if it is working?

Take care all!

Norgil Hammerfest has joined the Sentinels of the Ragnarok and has been promoted to Knight.  He seems to be a promising young member.  In addition, our first international player has joined the guild, Sundavar Frehor.  Now the Sentinels of the Ragnarok is up over eleven members.

Thread cleaned as requested.

Sep: Stop it. I can get you banned probably easier than anyone else here.

Valbrandr: Some kind advice, if he (or anyone) tries to start a flamewar, simply do not respond to it. You can alert me and I\'ll remove the offending posts, and in the meantime, you can act as if nothing was ever said. Unfortunately I had to delete some of your own posts as they were direct replies to the flames I had to get rid of. This is just advice to help stop that happening in future. :)

Back on topic now, everyone.

Ahh... Thats much better thanks for all the input Exareo.

In addition, please check out our updated Hierarchy, it is not finished but now there are three Orders, somewhat like the Mercenary Guilds structure.

So that I dont double post: We have got two new members:  Lecohore and Kiniron.  Today, the 1st, Three new members have joined: Mystique, Flyingg, Nimble, and now Delta.  It seems as though we are becoming more of a player coop.
Title: WebSite
Post by: Induane on January 08, 2005, 01:41:50 am
I\'m going to be making some changes to the website tonight.  Some should be up tonight and tomorrow.  Also, one of our promising new members offered to help us with our website.  Thank you Nimble for your offer for help.  I have given him access to our website, but it might change as he has offered to host it for us.

If anyone has the gumption, I\'d like them to check out the changes I have made and tell me how you like them.  Be critical - I need to know what is good and what isn\'t - I\'m learning all this on the fly.

Thanks for everyones input.!

Home page is now definetly better, and the only thing that hurts my eyes is that white background behind the navigation bar. (http://www.freewebs.com/exaero/SotRsite.JPG)
I don\'t see any change of the other pages yet, so I guess that\'s all the critics I\'ve got.

Thank you once again for the helpful screenshot Exaero_Fiero.  After a little research I discovered that internet explorer does not correctly handle files in .png file format.  Firefox does.  The buttons actually have a transparent background.  Do you know of another good format I could use that supports transparancy, preferably alpha transparancy?  And one that works with interent explorer. I had tested .tiff files in IE and it didn\'t handle their transparancy either.  I hadn\'t tested in IE as I do all work from linux, and though I run IE in linux through wine, I hardly bother fireing it up very often. Browsing is too slow with it. I really ought to do testing of IE along with Firefox, since that was the reason I installed IE in the first place.  Also I noticed the Home page link is much larger than the others... I checked the html source and they are all set to the same size.  Firefox displays it correctly in this case as well.  I don\'t know the problem with that however.  I\'ll see what I can dig up.  Remember I\'m learning all of this on the fly, so any help is appriciated.

Thanks again for the screenshots.  They have been extremely helpful.

Thanks for taking the time to check out our website. Your help has been, well, helpful, lol.

Our guild is growing strong, as recruiting is going well. We have 26 members.

A special thanks to all our members. I have been extremely pleased at the teamwork that has been taking place. The older players are doing a good job helping the younger players in our guild, and it is benefiting the entire guild as a whole. You are all doing a great job. Keep it up!

Mmm, .gif is the most commonly used format for images with trasparencies. Pretty much stick with .jpg and .gif and you shouldn\'t have any problems.

gif files use indexed color.  This made our buttons and such look a little grainy.  I tried doing a direct convert with all layers also, but no such luck.  I can do about 45 formats, so do you know another that works in windows?

I\'m pretty sure .png\'s do.
Title:
Post by: Induane on January 17, 2005, 07:04:30 am
You are correct.  .png files handle transparancy.  The problem is that Internet Explorer, being the clunky large poorly programed browser that it is, displays a white background on .png files that should be transparant. Firefox does not have this issue.

If you type /who  in your chat box it will give a list of who is on. Then simply look through the list for members of our guild.  Then send them a tell i.e.  /tell Induane I am interested in joining your guild please send me an invite

then we will invite you.  If you are asking someone other than Myself of Valbrandr be sure to mention that Induane or Val approved you in the forums.  That way you are sure to get invited.  We have many active players,, many with rectruit abilities, so find one and just ask!

Good luck - hope to see you ingame as soon as my linux version finishes downloading.
