Title: Considerations about sewers,rats,money,xp
Post by: Distruzione_di_Massa on December 29, 2004, 11:45:10 am
First of all, sorry for my english. then,

Anyone here knows how the situation in the sewers is. I read the faq already, but i think it somehow understimates the problem.
At any hour of the day, almost any rat spawn point has at least 3 people waiting to slay the poor rattie, and weak chars never get to kill one as strong ones blow them up with one single attak. This increases frustration of noobs badly, for rats are the only valuable source of money in the world for now. And also, kill stealing.. well, considering overcrowding and spawn camping, it\'s just impossible to find your own rat to kill all alone, SK is something that just by now can\'t be avoided. i know that  developers have much to do and i was the first thanking them for their efforts , but the situation is quite critical.
My experience lead me to this possible solutions, for now:
-More rats, a lot.

-Even more spawn points, so that a rat will not appear right where it died but people have to walk a bit to find them.

-Alternate valuable souces of money. this is perhaps the most important thing. Give stronger monsters something worth many trias! The rats problem is caused by their worth in tria terms, so that, even if they are the weakest monster of all, they are the preferred source of money, thus becoming the column of the whole system (xp without money means nothing, as my 150 and more unused progression points state). So, try giving to strong monsters valuable prizes. The tefusang could give 4 or 5 teeth, thus making strong people go hunting for them, leaving the rats to weak chars.  as tefusang are quite lethal when they retaliate and can\'t be attacked by waek ones, they could be brought down by organized groups of chars, improving role palying and making said groups share those teeth found on dead bodies.

-another cool thing could be putting some really strong monster hidden in the hills outside the city, in the ruins near the portal, in the dungeon under  the temple, making experienced fighters leave the sewers hunting for the bastards.

I know perfectly that all these things are already in schedule and that developers have other things to work on, but perhaps they understimated the rat problem and the frustration that it generates.

these are not words of a weak noob who can\'t get sword skill, i\'m quite strong even if i didn\'t play MB and I could get any rat i wanted; i just remember when i was armed with my bare hands and could do nothing hehe

Cheers, in-game Metallo DellaMorte

Don\'t worry about spawn points. Soon there will be a lot more :-)

Rats money gain is awful. Mining is hundred times more effective when you got some skills. (time to get 2000 trias: 1h - try this with rats)

In the Arena, some Tefusang are really really strong and gives a lot of XP (like 12PP by kill :) ) so rats aren\'t even a reliable source of XP.

But i agree that this is a big problem for new players that can\'t mine/shoot Tefusangs. I especially fear overcrowding of sewers after the restart

Well have to agree with this problem here :) and yeah I am a newbie to the game and am still fighting with my bare hands. Still trying to figure out how to make money and stuff but anyhow back to the point...

Walking around, there are only few rats and like atleast two people at each of those spawning points if not up to four :P

Being the one that gets to kill the rat is very hard and even exually getting some experience is sometimes hard as the rats are speed killed but don\'t really spawn any faster ;)

yeah i\'m trying mining too now that i found iron, even with skill 0 it could be an alternative (even if boring as hell)..  nonetheless, rats are the column as a fact, right now. Obviuosly tefusangs are great for xp, but only char with some skill can face them..

do you find killing rats more fun? i don\'t. At least with mining you can type /dig, then switch window, answer a n00b question (how can i type @????? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!) and come back to Planeshift to retype /dig and go on ;)

Seriously, if you want fun don\'t level. There is quests and exploring to do :)

Nah, you just have to wait a skilled people attack it, then join. the Tefu will attack the skilled one, and ignore you. The other(s) won\'t care because you\'ll do so little damage that :
a/ You won\'t kill it - and even if you do one time out of twenty, it\'s only 16 trias
b/ You\'ll \"steal\" only 1~2 PP out of 15 and you\'ll made the Tefusang die sooner (so the next one will take less time to respawn)

Note: english on these board

Need an event - for the first week of any server starting, or db being wiped, a massive rat horde is invading the city. Pelts worth 50% more until the horde is beaten back and the threat is ended. :D

LOL well a second area with some other creatures or some more rats would already fix the problem big time I think but ofcourse that should all already be in the planning ;)

PS: always knew I was cool LOL :D

as i haven\'t found any rats myself till now i was wondering how the drops are managed.

After you killed a monsters, are you the only person who can pickup its drop?
If not, it should be wise to add a timer on the drop;
Its killer(he/she who hit the most damage), should only be able to pick it up for the first 20secs.

It beiong used in loads of mmorpg\'s and its really working against dropstealing. Again, its probably already in the game and a very old suggestion. I just didn\'t had time to figure it out yet 8)

End camping forever.  Only alow a player to kill maybe one or two rats/mobs at a spawn, then their hits will do no longer do any damage and they can\'t pick up drops.  Then they would have to kill X number of mobs at different spawns before they can return to the first spawn.  Make power levs work for their supper.  Real  Role-players don\'t need this type of behavior.

On another note, what happens to all those pelts?  Coats, maybe? :D

i find rat killing a lot funnier : they retaliate, they move, they die, when people hits i hear some sound and i can go through the sewers to find another. Mining keeps being boring. And by the way you can answer to noobs when attacking the same.. no need to rush on those money furs. Exploring is really great, thanx also to the very good musics..when i found those ruins near the obelisk i was really thrilled :). Quests right now can be very frustrating

a weak char does 0.00 damage to a tefusang, getting  no xp and no reward. if he can damage it he is not that weak :)
