Title: The Land of the Azure Sun
Post by: Draklar on December 29, 2004, 03:03:28 pm
The Land of the Azure Sun

Chapter 1: The Beginning

It was an early morning. The tavern now empty didn\'t show any sign of that night\'s party. The only sound filling the room was the sound of pouring rain raging outside. The party itself didn\'t have any special occasion. Once again, the only occasion was lots of ale in the store.
Kada took a look around. With smile she esteemed the room as completely cleaned. There was a pleasant scent filling the tavern. Nothing great, hardly sensible and always there... yet it never became dull. That dark-haired elven lady most likely went through more parties than anyone else in the whole Yliakum. Hydlaans were certainly a fun-loving bunch. She took a step towards a painting. The view of a peaceful hut surrounded by forest and lake was now covered in some liquid... most likely spilled by one of the drunk guests. she made a small sigh. Such a nice painting went to waste... as well as ale. All of candles placed on the tables were about to burn out. Although there wasn\'t many of them left anyway. Most of them got knocked over during the party, many times bringing a fire peril. She glanced at an edge of a table - visibly damaged by one of candles. All the staff was now leaving to get some rest. Kada wasn\'t going to stop them, they certainly needed it. Instead she turned to the bar, only to see a drunk elf lying behind it. Cad was always a great help for her... and always had inclination for alcohol. Despise his urges to pass out during parties, as well as in the middle of a day, she couldn\'t imagine how would she manage to run the tavern without him. She felt her eyes closing. Maybe some rest would turn out useful at that time. She slowly walked down the stairs and took a look towards fireplace. A black enkidukai was sitting there, staring at the fire. It was truly admirable that Seperot could stand conscious to the end of a party, despise drinking more than any other guest. At the time he seemed to be pondering about something. With her usual prudence, she decided not to interfere into his affairs. Seperot was never completely safe to approach and now, him being strongly affected by ale, with katana by his side, he surely wasn\'t any safer. She only smiled a bit and took the stairs up. Seperot looked behind. It was very quiet, rain was still pouring outside. He wasn\'t going to leave the tavern yet. Instead he gripped the hilt of his katana and turned back to the fire.
The door creaked as it got opened. Two elven newcomers started looking around the peaceful tavern. One was a female, widely smiled despise being all wet, didn\'t show any sign of being exhausted. She was dressed in a robe, colors ranging from azure to pure white. Strangely, hues seemed to be constantly changing, as if altered by the will and mood of the robe\'s wearer. She made a gesture with her right hand, causing the door to close under the force of arcane power. In same moment the other elf turned around and then looked back at his companion. She smirked to him. Unlike his friend, he didn\'t show any sign of joy. Being completely wet and tired didn\'t seem like a good situation to smile for him. His face certainly was showing a sign of recent exhausting journey. Despise that, one could notice lots of pride on his face, even more than normally. He wore a light brown cloak, under which hid chainmail and some other parts of quite heavy armour. He had a sword covered in sheath by his side and a round wooden shield bind to his back. Now, they both needed to sit by a fireplace and dry their soaked clothes. Just a moment later they noticed the enkidukai rogue resting after the party.
- \"Seperot!\" The male elf exclaimed.
The tired enkidukai turned around and glanced at the companions. His face lacked any emotion, he just kept staring at them, not showing any interest in what they want. The warrior took a sit on the opposite side of the table, while his companion, with her usual smile, walked further and sat on a bench by the fireplace and, after drawing her hands near it, began looking at the sparks.
- \"You won\'t believe it!\" The male elf continued \"I\'ve heard many tales of this place, but never thought I would come across a chance to see it with my very own eyes! I mean the old haunted vault, where the corpse of a powerful diaboli mage is supposed to lie. And with it, of course, all of his mythical wealth! Me and Ravna...\" He reached into his pocket and put a piece of old paper on the table \"...found this deep in the dungeons. It is a map showing the exact location of the vault. Of course, normally I would reconsider if it isn\'t fake, but it has sign of Armanal, diaboli I told you about, cast into it! This is our--\"
- \"Drak...\" Seperot interrupted him \"You missed the party...\"
- \"Huh... but...\" Draklar\'s excitement decreased at once.
- \"Let me see that\" Kada picked up the piece of paper.
- \"Oh, well met, Kada.\" Draklar looked up \"What happened with Sep?\"
- \"Good morning, Drak\" she smiled \"It\'s nothing, he just drank too much ale I guess.\"
- \"Didn\'t pass out yet, eh?\" he grinned to the enkidukai.
- \"No, in fact I believe the only time he passed out from alcohol was when you two started a drinking contest.\" Kada smirked and got back to checking the map.
- \"Aye, I remember that\" Draklar grinned once more \"I was the one who won after all.\"
- \"Actually, you both passed out at the same time\" Kada giggled.
- \"Yes, well... I bet Cad was giving me stronger ale...\" He shrugged \"So what do you think about the map?\"
- \"Well--\" Kada\'s answer got interrupted by an enkidukai kicking the doors open and entering the tavern \"Oh! Zetsumei! Be careful with that!\"
Zetsumei brought an awful stench into the tavern. His clothes were completely wet and torn in many places. Not exactly what one would expect from someone of such wealth as his.
- \"Well, my hands are quite tied at the moment.\" He answered and raised his hands, showing two bags full of something. \"Is Aleena around?\"
- \"Yes\" Kada sighed \"She\'s in her room--\"
- \"Good\" The enkidukai started walking up the stairs.
- \"But Zet! She\'s still sleeping!\" Kada was getting more and more annoyed.
- \"Then I will wake her up, duh!\" Zetsumei shrugged and went up.
- \"Ugh!\" She clenched her fists \"Sometimes he can be so annoying!\"
- \"Hey! Be careful with that!\" Draklar jumped up from the chair and pointed at the map.
- \"Oops! Sorry about that...\" She loosen her grip and looked at the map \"Now... what were you asking? Ah yes. Indeed, the Armanal\'s sign seems to be real so I don\'t think the map could be faked. And if what you say is true, the wealth in the vault--\"
- \"Would be enough to split between quite big number of adventurers\" Ravna joined the discussion.
- \"Well it seems taking the road to Ojaveda would be the best start.\" Kada continued.
- \"Good\" Draklar nodded \"We\'ll get some rations there\".
The doors opened once more and a loud, dwarven voice filled the room \"Where\'s the service? I need some ale!\"
- \"Valbrandr...\" whispered Seperot.
- \"Oh look! Sep is awake!\" Draklar chuckled.
- \"Now Sep...\" Kada tried to get him to calm down.
But Seperot didn\'t wait any longer. He grabbed his katana and jumped towards the newcomer, yet got stopped by Kada who grabbed his tail.
- \"No Sep! There will be no bloodshed in my tavern!\" She frowned.
- \"How about some dwarf-tossing then?\" he inquired.
- \"No!\" Kada pulled the enkidukai back \"Now if you excuse me, I need to take care of some customers.\" Said that, she walked to the bar.
\"Well well well...\" Zetsumei chuckled and made sure he would remain unnoticed \"Drak turned out to be useful after all... splitting the money? Ha! They must be insane... such wealth asks for gathering by just one person... and I think I know the person to do it...\"

Nice to see another one of your stories, Draklar :)

There\'s just one small tiny detail, the one who has problems with alcohol is not Cad, but Cadoras (I think he\'s changed his name to try and escape this reputation...) :P

Nice rendering of characters as usual, except for this maybe:

Zetsumei chuckled and made sure he would remain unnoticed
... or is it on purpose?  ;)

Looking forward to reading more!

Chapter 2: Onward to Ojaveda

The rain already stopped and whole Hydlaa was now enjoying warm climate created by the Azure Sun. On the streets appeared first people, now heading towards shops to buy themselves some food for breakfast. An enkidukai rushed through a puddle, flushing a couple of winged insects that were resting around it. They quickly flew up into the air and started maneuvering aimlessly, trying to avoid the last aindrops. One of them started heading towards two dermorians that were sitting on a high wall.
Ravna swinged her arm at something near her head and mumbled something about bugs. She was sitting just to the left from Draklar, combing her purple hair and humming something quietly. Draklar glanced at her. He always wondered about her hair color, so unnatural for elven kin, but never actually asked about it. The most common thought was that she simply dyed them, however he knew that with his mage friend nothing could be ever known for sure. He turned back to the Hydlaa gate, again waiting for something. He took off his cloak - the climate was very warm, even as for the kravaan days. Now revealed, his heavy armour was showing lots of damage taken from the dungeons. Draklar sighed. Such a hot day wasn\'t exactly the favoured time for him to work in a smithy. Suddenly he frowned and clutched his head.
- \"Something\'s wrong?\" Ravna stopped combing her hair for a moment.
- \"No, it\'s just that...\" Draklar moved back, making sure he wouldn\'t fall down \"odd feeling again.\"
- \"A feeling?\" She asked again, this time putting her hair-brush away.
- \"Yes, I had it in the dungeons already.\" He shook his head \"Remember, when we were resting at the underground lake. I was looking into the water, when suddenly it changed... its color... it was all red... as if it suddenly got filled with blood.\"
- \"What? I didn\'t notice that.\" Ravna started looking worried at that moment.
- \"No\" Draklar shook his head again \"I didn\'t think you would. But that wasn\'t all. The water - it started swirling... or maybe it was my headache making me see the whole place spin... I can\'t recall anymore. But the next thing I remember was the moment when the water just hit my face. I had a feeling as if someone stinged my eyes. And now had it again.\"
- \"Why didn\'t you ask for help?\"
- \"Oh, I couldn\'t think straight at the time\" he shrugged \"Thought it\'s just my tired mind messing up with me. Anyway, when I opened my eyes, the water seemed to have some kind of dark glow. Gradually it changed into normal self\"
- \"Oh!\" Ravna smiled again \"Look, it\'s Xalthar\" she pointed in the dirrection of the gate.
Not waiting any longer, they rushed down the stairs and approached the Ylian newcomer.
- \"Take my steed to the stables.\" He ordered his squire with the usual pride in his voice. This burly, dark haired Ylian as always was covered in heavy plate armour, now only missing his helmet. He had a well-forged steel longsword by his side, partly covered by a black cape.
- \"Hail, Xalthar!\" Draklar exclaimed while making the few last steps in his direction.
- \"Ah, hail to thee, brother!\" he answered \"I did not expect to see you here though. Weren\'t you supposed to venture into the dungeons?\"
- \"I did... and already am back.\" he smirked
- \"Well that was a short jouney, wasn\'t it?\" Xalthar removed his gauntlets
- \"Aye\" Draklar nodded \"But most rewarding\"
- \"Oh? Why don\'t you tell me about it in company of few mugs filled with ale at Kada-El\'s?\"
Ravna chuckled \"All roads lead to the tavern...\"

The doors of the tavern suddenly got smashed and a burly dwarf rolled outside. After a while of lying on his back, he slightly lifted himself with his elbows. A growl came from the inside.
- \"You\'re good as dead...\"
The dwarf glanced in the direction of the voice and rolled to his left, just before Seperot, that just jumped out from the doors, could thrust the katana into his stomach. Valbrandr quickly stood up and turned to his opponent. The enkidukai slowly brought his katana out of the ground.
- \"Say your prayers, dwarf\" he stood in the attack possition
- \"Say your plushies, kitty\" Valbrandr answered
- \"What?\" Seperot raised his eyebrow
But the dwarf wasn\'t going to answer this time. He charched at the enkidukai and swinged his battle axe. Seperot bent down just in time to dodge the attack and not waiting any longer he swinged his sword at the little man. Again, the attack failed, as Seperot\'s katana got blocked by a thrust of the axe. Using the time of Seperot\'s lack of balance, Valbrandr turned around, giving spin to his axe and hitting the enkidukai\'s right arm. Seperot managed to jump away to the left just in time to reduce damage of the blow. He rolled a bit before again he stood up. Blood was dropping slightly from his wound, bringing more rage to the enkidukai. He gritted his teeth and charged at the dwarf. He didn\'t manage to strike however, as his face got hit by a magic missile, sending him into air and finally throwing to his back. He moved right hand over his face and looked in the direction where the missile came from.
Ravna smirked at him \"Calm down a bit, will you?\"
- \"You\'re taunting me, Rav\" He lifted himself on his katana.
- \"Now, you won\'t harm a lady, will you?\" she winked to him.
Valbrandr using the moment of Seperot\'s weakness charged at him, however he got hit over head with a handle of a sword thus put unconcious before the warrior could do anything. Xalthar hid back his blade.
Kada was already standing at the entrance with her arms crossed.
- \"You know, you\'ll have to pay for the doors, Sep\" she frowned.
- \"Suits him fine for being a dolt\" Xalthar grinned.
- \"Well well well\" Kada smirked \"Look who comes to my tavern...\"
- \"Just get me some ale, will ya?\" he winked.
She chuckled \"Sure thing.\"

Draklar looked over his newly repaired armour, making sure no damage was left. All five of the adventurers were now ready for the adventure and Seperot healed from the yesterday\'s wound. That morning wasn\'t as warm as the previous one, but that was probably for the
better. Especially for the two heavy armoured warriors.
- \"Well this is it!\" Draklar exclaimed \"First we\'ll head to the Ojaveda and get some rations, then we\'re off to wilderness\"
- \"Yes, we all know what to do, Drak. Let\'s just go already\" Seperot walked out of the Hydlaa through the gate. Draklar once again checked for the map in his belt\'s pocket before going after everyone else.
It wasn\'t long before all five disappeared in the darkness of the forest.

Ok, and this is for all you people who \"wait for next chapters\": Don\'t :P

Now that I see how much people value work I put into my guild and what it is about (yeah, roleplaying and storywriting), I guess there\'s no actual point in any further wasting of my creativity on you people :P

Thus if I make any further chapters it\'ll be only to see by my kin (and some other people that I see as good roleplayers).

Rest of you go back to listening to Auran\'s speeches or something. You like them more than my stories anyway. ;)

That would be it :P

Shaddup and keep writing you fool, stop pretending that your  stories are so important to us..its a chance for you to show your worth in when it comes to writing RolePlay and perhaps allow some of us a few minutes in the day to read something we might enjoy. You write for others to read -_- Yes some of us do read and enjoy it unfortunately not many people write..

There not important to us but does that mean you stop because your not getting enough response out of it? I wrote 12 chapter history and barely got response out of it during the whole time I was writing it but whether people read it or not atleast I can say I put effort and work into something for others to read and enjoy if they choose.

Hmph... just so there won\'t be any further misunderstandings:

I choose not to post here because I have been shown where I can put all my tries to increase roleplaying and storywriting.
I simply won\'t post in the community of people who don\'t care about such things. That seems highly illogical to me.

If people aren\'t able to appreciate such things then I don\'t feel like writing anything for them.

Sure, there are people who actually might care, like Rangers, CV or Merdarion (btw, I love your entry, will be sure to use it), and for them I\'d gladly write further chapters.

But not for all the conspirators, fanatics and other corruptors who can\'t appreciate roleplay if it isn\'t about beating the hell out of each other.

If someone can prove me wrong about this community, I will gladly post further chapters. But for now I don\'t feel like giving my creativity to people who don\'t care.
It is waste of my time and I don\'t have much of it.

*falling to his knees*

Please keep telling stories to all. Even if we might not deserve it. Not all of us are Dermorian kind (well I am, an albino though) but all of us see the same wood, all the same sky. And even those who harm the woods are only parts of the grand circle of life. The grand circle of life from birth trough life, from life through death, from death through decay, from decay to rebirth.
Dont steal us the joy of listening through your stories, for stories can change the world (well a citate from the Ovater).

*Standing up again*

Ahrg, you brought me to knee before you, isnt that enough to be said that your stories are important?

I, for one, have been enjoying your tale. Especially your portrayal of Sep.  Simply brilliant.

However, unlike you, I will continue to post my story here, until its or my end.  Why, you ask.  Read Moogies sig and you will find your answer.

I challenge, yes challenge you to finish your story and post it here.

Rest assured, you already have a place reserved in my book.  Whether you finish or not, but I would much rather have the notation \"Finished\" after it.

So, I leave you, and the rest of the community with this challenge.  COMPLETE YOUR STORIES!  They are our past.
