can there be like orcs?? not as playable chars. as npcs. that attack u in the wild and form bands and attack cities and all. and plz. no posting an answer like: maybe...in a future release.
-
that would be neat :D
-
Given as PS aims to be original, i doubt orcs will be part of PS as they are in Warcraft or LOTR (just look at planeshift elves...). But ugly things will be - and some of them may be called orcs.
(note: i\'d bet a good deal of trias that this has already been talked about ...)
-
yeah, ps is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo original with their ORIGINAL awsome idea of putting elves and dwarves, also their are several other ORIGINAL aspects of this

The last 15 posts could have been PMed.
Don\'t get your hopes up on the orcs. They will definately not be a playable race, almost certainly not an NPC, and most likely not a monster/mob.

Why would they bann you. your right
The game has Dwarfs.. thats also in WoW, did that some how
Slipp past your mind?
The Game has humans in it.. so does every other game.
the Game has Cat like Creatures, Morrowind.
Elves, Warcraft, Wold of warcraft, Morrowind, Lord of the rings.. The game uses a money system.. I cant think of
any other game that does, wow.
Cut and Slash -.. whoa now never seen that one
Mana - Hmm.. some kind of magic, maybe even from the game magic??
Health - Acceptable
Fatigue - Morrowind
I could just sit here and write up some article and go
over it so it perfect, but I\'m not. Insteed I am going to say
It\'s time to stop looking at other games and make ones
with your own constuctive mind.
Maybe reading up about Nikola Tesla and how he
made he\'s inventions would help.. I mean if that information
Is even on the internet.

I can do nothing but yawn boredly whenever this topic comes up and the extistance of elves and dwarves and humans is given as reason. The only reason why these species are in PS is to give players who don\'t have experience with rather obscure races, or who don\'t wish to go through the additional work of believably RPing an exotic species the option to still play PS and to feel at home. Yes, they\'re totally unoriginal, but, just as I have said on another thread, this os absolutely no reason to add more unoriginal things to PS which are not necessary. Geez, can\'t you think of anything else that might be a replacement for orcs as \"common enemy\"?
On a related matter, since you mentioned hack\'n slash: I\'m actually disappointed that the devs did implement battle first. Even though you can do other things, it\'s the only thing to gain XP from. That is something I see as step backwards. I\'d rather see no XP for battle but skill increase for other activities than the current system. :(
@ Nikolia: exactly. Some basic things simply are a must-have, but once you have satisfied these, it is advisable to not even look at what has been done elsewhere, at least not until you have come up with own concepts. I\'m not sure whether this is Tesla\'s philosophy, but that\'s what I deduce from what I read about him. Maybe you could PM me about this? Thanks in advance.

Hmm... Exp when digging  :P Note that it is planned to add more ways to get exp (quest, exploring) according to the Player Guide :)
I agree with the rest of the post though.

No, we have Stonebreakers, Ylians, Xachas, and Dermorians. I don\'t know what you are talking about... these... humans?
-
Wel icefalcon, as usual, u are the barer of bad news. and i wanted them orcies so bad...well. yes. this game is nothing near original. the races are elves and dwarves with fancy names. and the enkidukai. they seem like a rip off from morrowinds khajit race. P.S. yes lordwolf some new races would be nice [EDIT] all we need is a new city named Balmora and it\'ll be morrowind all over again[EDIT]
-
What about Kran and Lemurs? And Diaboli and Klyros? All just \"Elves with fancy names\", I suppose?
Oh yes, I totally forgot that an MMORPG itself is totally unoriginal, so other unoriginal things are a must-have! Geez, if you\'re already complaining that PS isn\'t truly original, why do you keep crying for more, even more unoriginal things to be added instead of coming up with something less unoriginal? I don\'t see what\'s so special about orcs that you can\'t live without them...
Edit: but feel free to work out truly original races and post them here. I\'d be surprised if you could come up with something that hasn\'t been done before.
-
see this what i mean the dev need to be listen to there players if they want more race\'s give it then them!!
-
no, every time you bring attention to a fact, you get a warning a ban or a deleted post like my post on how they said that reptiles had slimy skin when they have smoothe shiny dry skin, not to mention the lemur sre giant leperchauns the kran are just golems with brains and the diaboli are devil people (deamons or whatever you wanna call them) they have all been around in games, most of them in small games or forgotten games.
klyros i meant the same as a harpy because of the flying creature so you see what i mean???
read this and save it because it will probably be deleted along with all the replies to it because i just pulled apart the \"realism\" and \"originality\" of a game featuring elves, bat people, underground cities, mutant cats, talking rocks, mining midgets, pointy eared freaks, weird horned red people
i will tell yopu after researching, it\'s called elbow grease, and historical acuracy. i have never seen lizard men in any real mmorpg, just in a text based world.
i will look up real monsters in a bit.
got one
Before he ascended the throne of Crete, Minos struggled with his brothers for the right to rule. Minos prayed to Poseidon to send him a snow-white bull, as a sign of approval by the gods for his reign. He promised to sacrifice the bull as an offering, and as a symbol of subservience. A beautiful white bull rose from the sea, but when Minos saw it, he coveted it for himself. He assumed that Poseidon would not mind, so he kept it and sacrificed the best specimen from his herd instead. When Poseidon learned about the deceit, he made Pasipha, Minos\' wife, fall madly in love with the bull. She had Daedalus, the famous architect, make a wooden cow for her. Pasipha climbed into the decoy and fooled the white bull. The offspring of their lovemaking was a monster called the Minotaur.
The creature had the head and tail of a bull on the body of a man. It caused such terror and destruction on Crete that Daedalus was summoned again, but this time by Minos himself. He ordered the architect to build a gigantic, intricate labyrinth from which escape would be impossible. The Minotaur was captured and locked in the labyrinth. Every year for nine years, seven youths and maidens came as tribute from Athens. These young people were also locked in the labyrinth for the Minotaur to feast upon.
When the Greek hero Theseus reached Athens, he learned of the Minotaur and the sacrifices, and wanted to end this. He volunteered to go to Crete as one of the victims. Upon his arrival in Crete, he met Ariadne, Minos\'s daughter, who fell in love with him. She promised she would provide the means to escape from the maze if he agreed to marry her. When Theseus did, she gave him a simple ball of thread, which he was to fasten close to the entrance of the maze. He made his way through the maze, while unwinding the thread, and he stumbled upon the sleeping Minotaur. He beat it to death and led the others back to the entrance by following the thread.

In old Scotland, the Kelpie is a treacherous water devil who lurks in lakes and rivers. It usually assumes the shape of a young horse. When a tired traveler stops by a lake to rest or to have a drink, he would see a horse, apparently peacefully grazing. When he mounts the horse, the Kelpie dives into the water, but besides wet clothes, the rider gets away unharmed.

@ LordWolf: ROFL! You see, the devs do not have any obligation to us, don\'t forget that! They\'re doing their thing, and we get to use it for free. You don\'t get to influence anything unless you contribute something of value. Since you don\'t pay money, you need something else, and that would be your work.
@ Black_Rose: I seriously don\'t see why any of these posts would be deleted. Might it be that you worded them in a way that was just asking for deletion? There is, however, one pretty good reason to delete these: they have been asked 100 times before, maybe with the exception of the reptile skin, which probably just wasn\'t noticed before deletion or not important enough. I don\'t have the impression that the mods delete things that they don\'t like. In fact, there seems to be quite a good deal of fairness that the mod team shows.
The skin issue, however, does require correction, I second that, though they probably meant amphibious creatures, which AFAIK do have slimy skin.
Anyway, if you are actually telling that Klyros and Harpies are the same due to the mere fact that they\'re able to fly, and that this is proving your point of unoriginality, then there will be absolutely nothing ever be original, whether ingame or not, because these grotesque generalisation is just ridiculous.
Furthermore, IMO, Kran are not just golems with brains, but silicon-based life, which is something entirely different. This has been used before, in the game \"Master of Orion\", and also in some SF shows, but still I find it quite original. And even if they were golems, wouldn\'t it still be highly original to have them as a playable race?
Additionally, I don\'t see what your excerpt, albeit interesting and informative, does to prove your point? IMNSHO, it only proves that you don\'t seem to see any reasonable border in what you try to use as \"proof\" for unoriginality. It\'s more than far-fetched.
So if you want to define \"original\" as \"never been done before, not even anything slightly like it\", then, as I said before, there can\'t be anything original anywhere, as you might just as well say \"they can think!\" or \"they can\'t think!\", and there goes originality.
Therefore, the only sensible difinition of \"original\" is \"not used often and not in this way\", which the things that have been done in these unknown games or ancient stories fit perfectly well.
-
what i see as original is something that has not been used a million times with a different skin 8o, elves are almost always archer, dwarves miners, bolth pure????? what the heck??? ?( but they could take somethin from a really old forgotten myth, that would be one way of being an original game by using real life monsters (and they do exist) pyschic vampires, i had one for a while, then i swear i had a second one ;) but the fact is, they need something original or a least truely retro, most of their race\'s are used in one way or another in alot of things. why not have little used races from real mythology? that would be original ;)

So are you say you want them to let us play as creatures the like of Valkries and Centars?
-
yes, not just us play as them as new races but also for the enimies to be from ancient stories and texts, look in old religions and sutch, they could find good bosses on the web oage i linked
-
I really do agree with balck rose. If this game where to use a whole new set of monsters, i\'d pay to play! heck i might make a donation. now, the enemy thing. i would like the enemy races to be diffrent from char races. more of the ugly hidious creatures :D
A monstrous creature which inhabits the forests in Asia, especially in Indonesia, Malaysia and India. The manticore, considered to be the most dangerous predator in these regions, has the body of a lion and a head with human resemblance. The mouth is filled with three rows of razor-sharp teeth and the scaled tail ends in a ball with poisonous darts. The monster stalks through the forest in search of humans. Upon an encounter with a human, the manticore fires a volley of darts at the victim, who dies immediately. This unfortunate person is devoured completely, even the bones and clothing, as well as the possessions this person carried, vanish.
oooh i love that 1. i would like to kill it in PS one day
-
exactly, fighting centours meating the great hero beowolfe who took out a vicious beast ( im gunna read that some day ;) ) or fight the dreded Incubus
In medieval European folklore, the incubus is a male demon (or evil spirit) who visits women in their sleep to lie with them in ghostly sexual intercourse. The woman who falls victim to an incubus will not awaken, although may experience it in a dream. Should she get pregnant the child will grow inside her as any normal child, except that it will possess supernatural capabilities. Usually the child grows into a person of evil intent or a powerful wizard. Legend has it that the magician Merlin was the result of the union of an incubus and a nun. A succubus is the female variety, and she concentrates herself on men. According to one legend, the incubus and the succubus were fallen angels.
The word incubus is Latin for \"nightmare\".

What about races that arent all with human bodies. like four legged races...or races with no legs....somethin diffrent.
-
Well This idea was merged in some thread on Roleplaying forum called little experiment.
We there based on a race called meridians, which are great architects and builders.
They have perfectly shaped bodies with a second pair of arms.
Some of those used 4 swords, some used specially made swords.
Some Masterful archers could even use 2 bows at one moment.
One other race I could think of would be some kind of frog-men
Yeah you heard right Frog-Men, this sounds deaf doesnt it.
Frogs are just those little jumping toads arent they?
But think a frog can jump a multiple of his body length.
Those Frog-Men would have pretty much limits for using armor and weapons
But there could be wepons crafted for them.
-
Here we go into customization of races :D but i like the idea. Why not a special item for every race? Maybe they could be really good when they use that item. Like a special kind of shortblade for all those enkidukai out there.
-
Yeah or warhammers for dwarves.
But anyways, you cry about elves unoriginal.
Well the Planeshift elves have three things that are unoriginal :
--> the name (Elves)
--> their ears
-->their love for nature
They arent those godlike spellcasters of LOTR or that slimy elves of Morrowind.
And yes any game stole some ideas.
Bah. I dont think orcs fit into the setting.where should they live?
In the bamboo region around Ojavede maybe?
Or in the lovely planes and woods around hydlaa?
Or on any other place on yliakum?
Anyways quite got into something:
We have those portals outta in the stonelaybirinth. Why shouldnt the outcome of races stop?
And you have to commit that the overall setting of planeshift is pretty unique.
-
they should live in a forest beach area
-
They should live in caves :D and they should ambush players like you who dont think they fit in :P. Oh and kill all those other ppl too...
