Title: Wings3d
Post by: kaptainkranium on December 31, 2004, 12:54:22 am
Being a beginner at 3d modeling i used wings3d to try to create a few objects for PS. I realized later you couldn\'t render with wings 3d, so i download Yafray to render objects i had made in wings. Yafray is completely not working, and i have no idea why. So, i tried exporting my object in nendo format and open it with blender. That doesnt work either, not sure why again.
Any ideas on how i can get my objects rendered?

what exactly isn\'t working about yafray? and what is the problem with importing to blender, you need to give more information so we can help you better.

You could start with a credit card number... :D just kidding!

Well, whenever i open yafray a black console opens up for a millisecond and then goes away. I did what it told me to do in the readme, but that didnt help.

and with blender, i try to import the file that i made with wings then saved as a nendo, but when i do that it just returns me to the object editing screen with nothing new on it.

for blender, are you using windows?,  if so, blender usually has all the python it needs for the scripts that come with it, but sometimes not, my advise, unistall blender, install python 2.4, then install blender 2.36, that should do it. for yafray, I had the same problem with a lot of my programs that are meant to run in a shell, if in windows xp, right click it, select properties, then set a compatibility mode for win95, that should work, if not, talk to someone with a bigger brain or go to the elysiun forums.

Heck I been looking for a very simple very easy to use 3D model building tool for Linux. Wings 3D is the jackpot! Download binary package, unpack it, and run it. It is so easy to use. Also has a number of formats to export to, including .obj (which many 3D apps understand).

You guys just made my day, while I wait for the Linux binary release.

Yes, it has a simple renderer, supports lights and textures and uv-mapping.
The epitome of a good gui for me. Unlike blender...

Hey, don\'t be hating blender, some of us like things that are complicated :) gives our minds something to do, although I do like the gui for nendo, wings, and mirai, nice for people who don\'t have 50 free hours to learn a gui :).

Have Blender too. But for model building Wings3D definitely takes first place.
