{edit} ignore that little mad smiley... i must have clicked him by accident
Hey guys, I just got my wacom tablet and i hooked it up :]
i did this sketch, i know its crappy but its my first attemp trying to draw with a tablet. and beleive me, its taking alot fo getting used to :P

perhaps you could critique it. i really dont know what it is, i just drew the first thing that came to mind, i was playing WoW a few seconds beforehand if that gives any clues :)
i was thinking of turning it into something Planeshift relevant. Help?
-
not bad ....keep on going and maybe you can help PS graphic team :P
-
Yes, i plan to finish it. im just not sure where to go with it.
i have a terrible habit of starting a sketch but never finishing, not to mention my coloring skills need work :P
but im gunna finish this one ;) and ill peost the results here. im looking for constructive critisism. Ive learned through experiance that everyone sees something different. and YOU will helpo me pick out flaws i cannot see, yes?
-
The outside of the eyes is super high compared to the inside, if you were to draw a line along the \"points\" you\'d have a \'v\' shape. Thats fine when doing cartoony/animeish drawings, but when it comes to life drawings thats just not right... not saying you should change it, just making a statement.
-
thanks for the tip, here is an update.
and ill try to fix eyes as soon as possible. they may remain slightly tilted for some charactor though
to be honest i was planning on anime, but the more i drew the more realistic it bacame :)

Looking good. I also note that she doesn\'t have \"smile lines\" but you may just be leaving that for the shading step too, I know I\'ve just shaded them and not really drawn them quite a few times before myself.
Its bugs me how far over the part in her hair is but thats just me, and being that far over I know that of course you meant to do that.
EDIT: OK I got mean and started flipping it and rotating it to see what I could pick on and I noticed two things. The hair comes up to a point that looks quite unnatural when mirrored (which means its just less noticeable to the eye unmirrored), and face lines aren\'t all parallel...... look at the image and you\'ll see what I mean. The one line that doesn\'t look like its going across any features is going from the corner of the jaw to the other corner of the jaw.

Ohh ouch!.. lol it was looking so good until you pointed out all those things. Great job. I will learn so much from this :).
I have work to do, i shall return!!!
edit:: oh, and ill keep the part in the hair as it is. i know its sort of odd, but its part of the \"original\" hairstyle. you know a braid over here.. and some unkempt hair on this side.. and some... etc.
-
hehe you don\'t have to change any of it, its your drawing, do what you like, lol, just make sure you show us what you do so we can tell you its good :P
-
Oh, dont get me wrong, i am Overjoyed to have someone criticise me! thats the only way to get better doncha know!
i tried to fix alot of the things you mentioned.
here are results, I made the lips bigger. and altered the braid. overal i think i have come alot closer to perfection than iu would have without you guys. and i hope to bring it to final stages of coloring and shading :)

Her left eye (on the right side of the pic) is out of perspective. It needs to narrower, as we are getting more of a side view and it is a little farther away.
And something is off about her right <--jaw line, I can\'t quite put my finger on it. Try moving the whole head to the right-->. Maybe that would help.
Keep it up! It\'s going to turn out great!
-
Yes i noticed the imperfection in the jawline as well, but to be honest. I had it done properly but it seemed to take away from the feminine touch she has now. Its all about charactor :) Ill take a look at it and see what i can do. You guys are making me out to be some artist, when in actuality I\'ve never taken a class in my life, and im only 15. I lack alot of the refinements that a real artist has, so don\'t expect to much from me :P Things dont necessarily have to be proportional and 100% realistic. as long as the lines connect in a way that poeple can interpret your drawing as what it is you want it to be. for example the chin comes down much further and there is a larger space between the lips and the chin than would ever be in real life, or else you would look like a freak. but in this drawing it adds to charactor and makes her more feminine. :P
As for the eyes, you are absolutely correct, but i never noticed, i will fix them and show results. After that i think i will have done enough touch ups and hopefully move on to coloring.
Does anyone know a good tutorial for Digital coloring in Photoshop CS? I recently switched to Photoshop, and im loving it. but unfortunatly i don\'t yet know how to use it to its fullest. and my coloring skills need work to boot!
EDIT:: here are the results, i beleive im finished :]. although critisism is welcome, i beleive ill move on to coloring now. its so much better than when i started. Thanks guys!

Works for me :)). She looks a little older now, more wise, and maybe a bit sad. Nice personality. She would look nice with some moonlit coloring, but I am little moon-crazy. So pay me no mind.
-
i like it :) i think ill try it. only thing is its been sooooo long since ive colored anything digital. that my skillz have gone to p0t :(
plus I ive switched to Photoshop CS, and im still learning it.
anyone know a good place to learn digital coloring with Photoshop CS?
EDIT]- Nvm, i figured some things out, and learned the lock trans. pixel tool. (essentials) and now i can do it myself i think
Here is the Raw colored face, keep in mind that shading and highlights in an image make all the difference in realism.. im just showing you my choice of color.
ive always wanted to do platinum hair :P and i think it will look good with highights from the moonbeam i plan to have.

Don\'t make excuses with your age, you can learn to draw at any age you like, I\'m 17 myself.
Looking much better, btw, can\'t wait to see some shading.
-
Heres the finished colors, moving onto shading now. perhaps ill add a background.. but later.. im way to lazy now
(http://img111.exs.cx/img111/1148/necolor4rp.th.jpg) (http://img111.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img111&image=necolor4rp.jpg)
-
i like it,
oh btw i resurected ur surface exebition thread
-
I like the coloring on the pauldron. Might I asked why you removed the other?
-
Nice job on the colors, very light and mystical. I like it alot :D Good luck on the shading and don\'t feel shy to ask other artists for help or advice. Looking great, keep it up. :P
-
Thanks guys. as for the pauldron i removed. It just didn\'t work :P i added detail, i colored it. it just wasn\'t cooperating. but now she looks sort of.. erm.. naked so ill have to give her a shirt/armor or cut of neck down, wich id rather not do.
Here is a speedy, and crappy shading i did just second ago. It is about 12 at night here, and im tired.. so dont look too close b/c the light source is all messed up... i have shadows in all directions :P not to mention its sloppy. but its good for a quick glance! :]
(http://img143.exs.cx/img143/5507/necolor1qg.th.jpg) (http://img143.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img143&image=necolor1qg.jpg)
anyways ill probably redo shading tomarrow after a good nights sleep. i need the practise.
If any of you artists out there are willing to perhaps... take me under your wing so to speak. i would be overjoyed. as I\'m interested in digital coloring and shading, and line art too, but im ok at that.
I take art at school (9th grade) and i think i know more than the teacher :P im putting myself out here trying to learn anything i can. and i made this thread for constructive critisism, and questions. so far so good. Im taking this all the way through, rain sleet snow or hail! Thanks guys!
EDIT) If there are no major qualms, i beleive i have the final version! EDIT2) grr.. forgot the eyes.. guess ill go do that. oh If anyone has an interesting idea for background. please say so. as well as a garment for this poor woman.
(EDIT) Ive made changes to the shoulder.. it was a bit too large, see wich one you guys like better :) if you pick the second one, no more major changes can be made except background and tweaks to the eyes, because i had to merge all the layers to make the adjustments.
(http://img61.exs.cx/img61/1524/necolor3pb.th.jpg) (http://img61.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img61&image=necolor3pb.jpg) (http://img49.exs.cx/img49/5858/necolorshoulder5cx.th.jpg) (http://img49.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img49&image=necolorshoulder5cx.jpg)
-
the second is a more realistic and feminine looking shoulder to me... but i have no kind of eye for good art so i dont know... but the second does look a lot better to me
-
THe second shoulder is better. One more thing, the long ear creeps the hell out of me. It ruins the mood of the picture. I would prefer it to be less longer and less pointy.
-
Yeah now that you mention it, the shoulders were too broad, the second is better. As for not being able to change anything, you could if you added new layers it just could get tricky, however, I don\'t see anything that needs to be changed anyway :P
-
sry about the long ears, but its part of being an elf, and its part of her charactor.
anyways, now i think ill add a background an call it a job well done..
Does anyone have any good ideas?
Heck! it would even be cool if someone did the background for me, then it could be like a join project. could put a little watermark on it with both names..
or whatever, whos got a good background idea?
-
if i had photoshop id make you a background... but i havent installed and cant seem to find the CD :\\
anyway... i like the long ears :)
-
Perhaps you can give me an idea? i love to make art that has a little advice and bit of everyone in it. Almost all my art is influenced by other people, not always directly however
-
this is just me but...
i was gonna make some tree shapes, with a foresty backdrop and blur it up some to look like an out of focus forest behind her, kind of like a trail of sorts she\'s on, two large trees on both sides with the smaller trees going into perspective?
like it?
-
its looks beutifull :D keep on going :D
-
sounds good. keep going.
But remember. since the face is so detiled. you must also add a lot of detail to the trees and foliage before you blur. or else it would look out of perspective. dont forget thading and such.
but it sound slike a great idea!
-
i cant do it :( i said i dont have photoshop or paintshop... i thought you just wanted to know what i would do.. sigh..
-
oh. :( i missed that.
well im terrible at landscapes. so it would be comicly pathetic if i were to try that.
perhaps some nice fellow that happens along here would show me?
-
i look for my cd tonight and if not when i get home tomorrow, if i find it ill be happy to do what i said :)
-
hows the search going? hehe
