Is there no all-covering map for the PlaneShift world? This would be a GREAT idea to add. Since the developers shouldn\'t have it too difficult getting a view from above! The sewers and the other dungeons are quiet confusing... I mean, buying the map, visiting special map points... Anything! Just add some way to get a map!
-
After a while, you learn the sewers. It just takes patience. Play for a while, and you\'ll begin figuring things out. I used to not be able to find the tavern, now it\'s second nature! A map would be nice, but I don\'t want a map of the whole world, then it kind of defeats the purpose of exploring.
-
Well, but a in-game map of Hydlaa Town would be nice! When you are new to the game, you might eat your hat to find, as you said, the tavern, the smith and the trainers/shopkeepers...
By the way I like Mozilla Firefox too. =)
-
it would be nice to have a scrolling map that apear\'s as you explore the realm but as this is just beta i doubt if it will happen you will have to rely on any ambitious player that decide\'s to make a map
-
Hey, Squig, nice screenshots. It would help if someone could label the buildings or something.
:P
And, uh, maybe a map of areas you\'ve explored?
-
Wow i love that detailed map of hydlaa plaza :))
-
Well done! :D
-
I agree that is a pretty good map :D you should do more of those
-
Don\'t you mean \"Fireofsoul\" should do more of those? Exaero_Fiero didn\'t create that map, and you obviously still havn\'t read the FAQ or you\'d know this. :)
-
From the in game screenshots, I see the player is flying high above the town. So how does one gain the ability to fly so high?
-
I did create this map, only I soon found out that Fireofsoul did the same before me, so I have no proof that I did not just copy and remake Fireofsoul\'s work...
confused: I did not see this sequence in any FAQ\'s, but change camera distance by Shift+ (mouse back and forward).

If you guys want to make maps, feel free to get a pencil and some paper. I wont let people simply post screenshot maps with slap-on text here. That\'s too easy, too... not-creative, and it doesn\'t really make you a good cartographer.
-
just let them post their screens, they will show up in another thread or site anyhow. Besides that, a screenshot is way less detailed then a great drawn map.
If you don\'t like it...ok, but just let them post them (or at least leave a link). The drawnings should only get some more attention..
V?in?m?inen: great map! really nice work

I feel myself like a n00b.

A cartographer skill is planned to be implemented some time in the future. But how would a new player afford a map? In medieval times paper (and the earlier parchment) was expensive and it was harder to make good maps since there was no way to fly. In Yliakum we have, or at least will have pterosaurs, but the cost of breeding, holding and feeding such creatures only adds to the cost of map making. I think a good map of an area would cost at least 1000 trias. After all cartographers have to live too. The way I see it, maps are nothing for newborn characters.
Why can\'t new characters just ask other people for the way. Also, I am sure NPC\'s will be able to answer such questions in some time.
-
Couldn\'t there be a public map at hydlaa plaza then? Somewhere near the spawning point, so that all who travelled there would see it...?
-
At the very least, the game should tell first-time players how to get to the sewers.
-
I\'d like to see a map not to get in, but to get through the sewers.
-
Nah, half the fun of dungeons is getting lost.
;)
Plus, you can always /spawn your way out.
^_^
-
still havent found the sewers entrance yet :P
havent looked hard enough till now i think, but i will get lost there again in the beginning. I still remember my first walks in the caves of MB....
-
Why not draw the map yourself? It\'s the best way to get to know dungeons, usually when I finish drawing I realize I don\'t need it anymore. ;)
-
i used to want a map, just like when i played mb but after you play awhile you get used to everything, i remember when i learned where the tavern was
-
A map is really not needed at the moment as the current build world is small, though once the world is built much bigger a generally basic world map (indicating town locations) would come in handy.
-
I found a general world map!

:D
-
That is inacurate.
I don\'t like maps. Its alot better if you actually explore. That way, you never know whats ahead.
IC: And you also want maps of the sewers? Who in their right mind would make a map of sewers? Sewers is where human waste and refuse is kept and sent out of the city. Nobody cares about sewers.

Check out this thread for more previous map discussion (though there are at least a hundred threads dealing with maps, this one was recent) http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=11815&boardid=13&sid=05a3b143144ecdc60722bd18f44c1a76
This thread includes a splendid map produced by Gronomist and much other map related discussion for your pleasure ;)

My map is inaccuate?! I will have a word with Jayose about this! X(
:P
-
Jayose\'s salary was nerfed, so he had to hire a blind cartographer to do his map at the library. Took 20 years to complete too, since the cartographer had to \"feel\" the landscape instead of just seeing it.
