Title: Linux client download?
Post by: Faithwarrior on January 02, 2005, 12:39:45 pm
I have not run PS in a long time. I\'m trying to run it under win98SE but the updater does not work from the 2 day old downloaded client and I have found no working fix here yet (it worked last night).

Anyway, there used to be a Linux version of the CS client but the link I found here is dead. Is the Linux CS client still alive and well? I run Mandrake and would like a download link to a current version of CS for Linux.
Thx

See Building from CVS in Linux (http://www16.brinkster.com/acraig/planeshift/buildmb.html)

After trying to do this all I can recommend is don\'t do it in Suse Linux unless you want to experience pain.  I have been told to try it in Fedora 3 or Gentoo.  That it is much easier.  Don\'t forget to install all the developer tools.

And see http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/Distribs.html (http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/Distribs.html)
A nice place to go.

Faithwarrior, If you don\'t want to build from CVS there is a functional Linux installer in the thread: Planeshift Forums >> Public Forums >> Crystal Blue Problems/Bugs >>  CB Linux installer, finally done    posted by  Karosh_Steinkatz. Thanks Karosh!

It is known to work  on Slackware, Arch Linux, Debian and Fedora Core 3. It will probably work on your version too.  Karosh is working on a new updater for it to fix a bug (as of 1-21). Check that thread and when he posts the fix you can simply download and install.

The download is only about 55MB.  Once you install you need to run updater and download another 180MB or so of art.

Enjoy and be sure and post a thankyou to Karosh. He spends a lot of time making it easy for others to play.
