Title: Can't Sign in/Virus
Post by: Tathuss on January 06, 2005, 12:11:17 am
Alright, I start Planescape, and I put in the email/password, then click ok. Everything seems fine, the cursor moves, and such, but the screen the stays black. What\'s wrong.

Also, after I downloaded it, I got a \"Backdoor Trojan\" and my screen setting shrank, and wont go back. ><

You DID NOT get the virus from PS.  It\'s a secure server, and I\'m 100% sure you didn\'t get the virus from that.

Anyways, this problem is... err... I dunt know how to solve it.

?_?

Sorry.

Of course he didn\'t get it from PlaneShift. The guy started Planescape, didn\'t he? :) Although why he\'s posting here, I shall never fathom...

(Yes, sarcasm is muchly known to me :) )

Idea, answer the first question, if you don\'t have anything to say about the second.

Where did you download it from, and when? When was the exact time you got that message (right after downloading, after installing, after running it, etc.)? Did you check the MD5 sum before installing? Are you absolutely sure that you didn\'t install anything else before? Did you scan the download?

Idea: be absolutely precise when requesting info, especially if you absolutely feel you must spread FUD. If you don\'t even know the correct name, then we can\'t take your report of a trojan seriously, since obviously you don\'t work careful enough to be able to provide any accuracy.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Free anti-virus, and cleaning, from the web, automatically updated.  Though some viruses (virii?) automatically block domain name resolution there.

OK, It\'s gone, now answer the first question. Why doesn\'t it work?

I hate to sound callous about this, but it has to do with demands, versus asking politely. *smiles softly*  have you run the updater on it, and is your hardware compatible?  Check the minimum to run planeshift, and see if your computer meets it.  If so, check to make sure you have no spyware/adware running in the background.  In addition to this, you may wish to check to make sure there is no hardware conflicts in your system, and you\'re not firewalled from the server, or run through an incompatible proxy.  Just the standard checks for network gaming, really.
