Title: PlaneShift Soundtrack
Post by: MDesigner on July 11, 2002, 04:05:56 am
Hey all,

I\'ve been emailing Luca back & forth a few times, talking about doing a soundtrack for PlaneShift.

I\'ve thrown together a quick draft for a theme that would play while travelling outdoors.  Keep in mind, it\'s just a rough draft and just gives a general idea of the theme.

We\'ll see if I\'m hired on officially as the composer.. wish me luck :)

Not bad md!  A bit more variety or maybe something a bit lighter for travel, but that is just my opinion.  I\'d like to hear what you have in store for combat.  Hopefully somethin\' powerful with a lot of base ;).

Leodinus,

Thanks for your comments.  I come from a classic RPG era (Faery Tale, etc) where music was always very much in the foreground..and stuck in your head.  There are some other composers out there now whose stuff is lighter as you say, but it\'s too much in the background and not memorable.  In RPGs, I like music that sticks in your head & you find yourself humming along as you walk over the landscape.

As far as combat music, you can hear some of that in another soundtrack I\'m working on.. check out http://www.jorsm.com/~bears

I liked the song and you seem qualified to contribute to PS, at least in my opinion, based on that song...  I think it is a little too slow and abstract to be an outdoor song though.  I found myself picturing myself being inside a temple or vacant underground \"thing\" when hearing that...  the calm before the storm so to speak.

Very nice though.

Inside a temple, eh?  Hmm.  The opening strings followed by the flute is supposed to give a feeling of being outdoors.. in a vast, open place.

oh well  :D

You know what would make me think of outdoors?...a happy go lucky beat...maybe some flutes and such...you remember the \"Brave Sir Robin Ran Away\" bit from Monty Python?..I don\'t mean the lyrics or anything...but that style...something you can get up and travel to :)

I suppose it depends too, on what Luca meant by \"outdoors\"... still underground but out in town?  Or above ground, outdoors? Hmm..  ;)

Sounds great!

Coincidentally, I\'m currently writing travel and battle music for PS.

Read you\'re guestbook.
But it\'s amazing, THIS NEEDS TO BE PUT IN PS!!!
But then you need to make sound tracks of 20 mins long, so you dont have the same thing in youre head, dont let anything repeat in the \'song\'. (i dont know the word   .

But you have a tallent!

it is very good but u have to think about it for poeple who will have to listen to it for LONG PERIODS of time.

i think for the outdoors... u should have a flute playing or something... u know like in zelda...
