Title: Updater Text Problem

hello. i\'ve been playing runescape for a bit now, and i\'ve invited a friend of mine to play with me. he tried downloading it, and it took us about a night and a half to finally get it downloaded without his computer freezing. he installed it, and at the end of the installation, the computer froze for a bit. he managed to get it working again, and now he\'s trying to update the game so that he can begin playing. however, he has a problem with the updater program. This probelm seems eerily similar to the others i have read about... however, it\'s not that no font is showing... some of the font is showing, and it seems to be just select parts. here is a link to a screenshot of what it looks like (you can see, under the window he shows, my screenshot of how it should look like. we\'ve been spending quite some time trying to fix this, and he\'s becoming increasingly frustrated with it)

anyone know what to do? he just updated his drivers, and i\'ve send him a bunch of files that relate to the updater file (in the event that one of the files was corrupted due to the freezing during installation). we both hope these files might fix it, or the drivers (a long shot, but you never know) might... but if anyone has had this problem and fixed it, please! let us know!!

Well I have followed the steps provided by people who are trying to fix the problem and nothing seems to work, please settle this demon before i break my new comp out of frustration.

Me too.  I just ran the updater (1.0.2.1?) and it said my version was old - it pulled down the new one, and told me to restart it.  When it came back up, there\'s no text anywhere.

However, the interesting thing is, the links still work.  The left center box still appears to have launched a game update when I clicked on it.  And, I can exit with the right center.  The odd thing is, you have to click right where the words are, as though they were hypertext.  If that\'s the case, then it\'s curious that I can\'t see them - they\'re written to the screen and active, but invisible.

Anyway, hope it gets fixed.  And, since I haven\'t launched the game, I hope the problem doesn\'t exist in there.

thanks for the info, but it\'s not the planeshift client that has no text, it\'s the updater itself. he hasn\'t been able to update, and redownloading is a big no-no (since his computer would go insane). he\'s tried reinstalling, but to no avail. anyone got any ideas? we\'ve tried doing the whole .dll thing, but still nothing.

oh how i wish i could be there myself. it\'s hard to give computer commands over the internet. heh...
