Title: All rats camped?
Post by: Jonnas on January 12, 2005, 04:05:38 pm
Ok, I got my game up and running, created a character, and found my way to the sewers. After searching a bit, i found some folks killing rats, but it seemed like each person camped a single spawn and just stayed there, and i couldn\'t find an open one.  Is this how the killing is ATM, and will i just have to wait in line for a spawn point? thanks in advance!

A few things to suggest:

*) Group and share rats and other creatures of the sewers!
*) There are alternative monsters outside the sewers which can be solo\'d or done with small groups for new characters.
*) Enjoy the explorative aspect of the game, do quests, see the amazing sites around Ojaveda and elsewhere.

Yah, or they could just increase the number of rats by a factor of 10 or so.  I mean how stupid is it for dozens of people to be running around after 7 or 8 rats?  With the lag already what it is, this makes the game frustrating and boring.

Other options: (1) give lots of EXP for exploration of new areas so there is a real advancement option to camping lame rodents.

(2) provide lots of quest EXP so, again, there is a realistic alternative.

(3) make the sewers a mandatory PvP area so that you can gain EXP by engaging in some real competition.  Currently, there is no way to punish kill-stealers and that makes for some harsh words and bad feelings.

(4) create 4 or 5 other newbie areas where we can kill rats, bats, gnats or whatever.

(5) create a gladiator arena where people can get EXP by fighting each other (with our without weapons)

As things stand THE GAMEPLAY ITSELF IS LAME.  But thanks for the hard work anyway.  I\'m sure it will get better in five or six months time. :-)

We\'ve just hit the point where the server is stable enough to start looking at these issues now.

But you all do realize that you\'re testing a tech demo, not playing a game, right?

I\'ve actually never gotten lag.  usually my fps is about 70-150.  don\'t think it\'s a server problem.

you mean im gonna wait for ages to update only to be completely unexpeirienced because:
i can\'t kill rats so my levels are rock bottom

im gonna repeatedly ahnihilated by more powerful players

the game becomes to easy to level in so theres no point continueing playing

believe me none of those \"reasonable\" fixes are anywhere near reasonable

Mythofsouls: Your post stretched my window WAY out there.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for putting so many rats in the sewers.  Also, thanks for making the gobbles harder.  I\'ve actually seen folks get overwhelmed by sheer numbers, which is as it should be.  There is way less kill-stealing now and the mood in the sewers seems to have improved.  :-)

This actually gives me an idea for a zone:  Maybe you could have a perpetual undead battle somewhere?  You know: A place where two or three armies of undead warriors (ranging from skeletons to spectres and beyond) do battle with each other.  Any players foolish enough to wander into the midst of it would run the risk of being attacked.  ... like the rat sewers but much harder.  A good place for a quest involving finding someone or something...

thanks again for all the hard work.
