Title: Mechanic skill
Post by: Beeraxe on January 13, 2005, 11:47:11 pm
Its just realy a skill that lets you build cheap little robots, (like the ones in Morrowind) probably a skill dwarves would specialize in

I do agree with a mechanics skill though. In the game World of Warcraft, they had a great mechanics system. You could build anything from little copper bombs to mechanical squirrels that could follow you around, for fireworks to impress your friends, or target dummies that diverted monsters away from you. I think this would be a great addition to the game.

YOU GUYS KEEP TALKING ABOUT MORROWIND AND WORLD OF WARCRAFT...THIS IS PS...IF YOU LIKE THOSE SO MUCH, GO PLAY THEM LOL

But i know what ur talking about...instead of using computers...use clockwork and magic

You are talking about implementing Steampunk.

It could work, I like steampunk.  But there will always be people who just want swords and magic, and nothing else.

Mechanical skill could be use to make special things like traps :), but Set Traps seems to do the same thing...

...what about special locks? Maybe we could be some with mechanical skill;  im sure there would be a lot of medieval utilities to do with this skill.

Not that would wold be able to build robots or anything but I was thinking more of like ancient meets clockwork machines, the same sort of thing that they did with treasure planet were technology was more advanced but it had a 1700s theme.

No I am not suggesting we have rocket ships or whatever, but yes make it a midevil theme but also expand the possibilities of PS out of the ordinary mold of midevil swords & magics.

Make mechanical devices that use magic instead of electricity & crude metals, wood, or stone instead of plastics & electronics we have. not steam-powered or electrically powered but a melding of magic & gear-work maybe in the future would be nice.

Actually this would be quite nice later on as the \"world evolves on it\'s own\" as it mentions in the splash intro on the website. maybe in some years from now when Yliakum scientists figure out \"Hey we can power the lifts between levels with magic\" or something who knows...

Edit: Oh ya! I totally forgot that you would need a skill like this if we are going to make catapults & whatnot... :D

yeah I like the idea :) lets say players make donations to some sciences or other domains and when a domain reach a certain amount of money, there is a new item of this type :D

it would make a evolutive world :D

like magically bringing life to a suit of armor or 2 to sewer the enemy away, then you sneak up behind & *bAm*. its just the term \"robot\" is most commonly associated with something modern new & semi-intelligent sort of like this definition:
Quote
a reprogrammable, multifunctional, mechanical manipulator that typically employs one or more means of power: electromechanical, hydraulic, pr pneumatic. Industrial robots have been used chiefly for spray painting, spot-welding, and transfer and assembly tasks. A robot performs its tasks in a physical area known as the robot operating work envelope. This work envelope is the volume swept by all possible programmable robot movements, and includes the area where work is performed by robot tooling.

but if there are going to be \"bots\" in PS I\'d rather have them part of the game & not programed for people to earn money on ebey. we can call it \"automagic\" bringing life to inadiment objects...
