Hey does anyone remember the old rpgs like crono trigger, secret of mana, breath of fire 1 & 2, Final fantasy 1 2 and 3 and earth bound. Those were some of the best rpgs ever made. I dont understand why the new systems concentrate on graphics so much they suck major because they lack in story line. The story is the whole reason that you play an rpg. Square soft has gone too soft on its rpgs, anyone else feel the same way? X(

I have played all teh hardcore rpg\'s i love them they are the best and the newer rpg\'s are very horrible they have no story line and absolutely no \"keep you there all night kinda thing\" like the old ones had. I wish that the companies would sacrafice thier pride in graphics and make some awsome gameplay and storyline. And what is up with consoles going online that really ticks me off. Consoles are not supposed to be online, you are supposed to gather up your friends and kick back in recliners and play the game there all together that is what console gaming is alabout but putting them online is going to ruin the whole experience. I hope that Nintendo, the only hardcore console gaming system left will only let a few online games come on nintendo, like PSO and others, thats ok with me but if they go online like PS2 and X-BOX are doing then i am goiing to be ticked. I love old rpg\'s i still play my SNES and i got loads of games for it mainly RPG\'s. I hope they keep making handhelds b/c that is about the only systme left that actually has good games.

my main problem is that i have a hard time finding copies of the older games, most of the ones i play now i get from playing emulated roms. It sucks because you dont have a controler to use but it better than nothing. Square soft made the best rpgs when they were with nintendo but then they went to sony and made crappy ones, ff7 was good and so was fft but i looked in to them and they were actualy nintendo\'s ideas that square took with them. So hopefuly now that square is going to get back with nintendo maybe nintendo can correct the error of squaresofts ways. I hope.
ps. i hate to break it to you bouty but nintendo is going to have phantasy star online but that might not be so bad right?

I said i wanted them to put it on there i like PSO and anyways Square is remaking the old rpg\'s for GBA and they are also making a new series, Not named yet, and they are also putting FFtactics on GBA also and i cant wait for that. Oh yeah the best action/adventure game ever is coming out and i have been waiting and waiting and nintendo has finnaly gave a release date for Samus Aaron WOHOOOHOOHHOOO oh yeah the best cant wait. Oh and i also like the new style link in the new zelda for nintendo thats the kind of graphics i have been talking about cant wait till that comes out its going to be great. GameBoy is going to be our last hope for actually good RPG\'s.

GameBoy is not a pokemon thing its just that it was on GB and it became a big thing with everyone. I know everyone is going to laugh but , i kinda liked Pokemon red and blue it was sorta challenging and the monster summoning was really nifty. If you look past the gay people and monsters then you really see the depth of the game. But i hate to say this unless nintendo gets its but in gear well we will have to stick with CPU\'s to get our RPG games. B/c obviously true RPG fans seem to be getting extinct if we can stick together and maybe one day invent our own games then we can show all the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party companies what a true RPG is.
Oh and if GB cant get out good RPG\'s then its back to the basics... CALCULATERS... i program RPG\'s on my CALC.

i have to admit that the original pokemon wasnt that bad, that was when it was still cool and all the little kids didnt know what it was and nintendo didnt market this piss out of it. But you kinda have to hide in the sadows and play it becase if you get caught playing it a swarm of little kids will try to trade you or beat you or anything else. Im a reformed pokemon addect lol :D

Well sorry but it seems to be down and i know what your talking about hiding in the shadows... LOL. Oh and also if you get caught a bunch of big preps or joks or something always starts saying your gay and stupid. Believe me i got caught it wasnt fun. Do you think that the idiots of the gaming world (which is comprised of 95% of the gamers) want older stuff? no, the want to say ooo that has bad ass graphics i have to buy that they arent gonna buy some old 2d shit, no game developer thats in it big time cares about the customers its all about the money.

id say both graphics and storyline are important. would you rather play mario on the SNES or mario on the N64? mario on 64 actually had a better storyline though. then again there are games like FF8 that have great graphics and crap storylines. i could go on and on about how much i hate FF8 and how its an insult to the FF series let alone every RPG ever made. and yes FF7 was great.but i liked FF9 the best because it had a good storyline like FF7 and good graphics like FF8,so it was a balanced pretty well with storyline and graphics,which in my opinion is how RPG\'s should be. another good example is is one of my favorite games on the comp. Baldurs gate 2 has descent graphics,not great,but good. and the storyline is defnatly awsome. FF9 would have perfect in my eyes if it werent for their lame attempt at a card game. but that is one thing ill give FF8 credit for is the cardgame. that and some of the music in the game. other than that i cant say i liked anything else about it. so thats my two cents on this subject.

Pokemon on GB.. Its really kewl :P No really.. I like to play it! .. Usually beat up all the little kids in school if they dare to challenge me.. :D Its kewl.. Anyways.. Yea.. The new games really could use some better storylines :)

I agree in that the graphics are very important in a game, but what I can\'t admit is that old games have crappy graphics.
It\'s not 3D and great resolutions which creates good graphics. Personally, I prefer 2D, hand-drawed games to 3D games (I mean, for the graphic aspect), and I don\'t see the problem with 320x200 resolutions.
Just to say, I love those old RPGs graphics better than Baldur\'s Gate ones. Not to say Zelda64.

it is a bit hard to have a decent storyline in an rpg thats only for net play....

im not saying that graphics arnt good to have in an rpg im just saying that they shouldnt put so much effort into the graphics because the storylines are starting to get slighted because of it i mean they spend all this time and effort tring to get good game graphics but they dont spend nearly enought time on storyline. ff9 was ok but it could be better compaired to some of squares older works. I really like the chocobo hot cold game, dam that thing was addective as hell. lol i got the robe of lords way befor i was supposed to. :D
ff10 was a good game over all but the storyline was way too predictable also they didnt have a good variation of monsters there was only about 20 diffrent types in the game and then they just copied that same monster over and changed its color and stats too make a new one it really pissed me off. if a game is going to go for graphics it shouldnt repeat the older system\'s way of makeing monster for the game. I mean for crying out loud ff8 had better selection of monster.

I have compiled a list of MUST play RPGs for PC. Being a huge fan myself, whenever i have time, i have played, and would encourage you to play the following:
1) Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator.
2)Anacronox
3)Evil Islands: The Curse of the Lost Soul
4)Vampire The Mascarade:Redemption
5)Summoner (long, but has a HUGE story)
I will edit the list if i can think of some more. ?(

i played the last four of those, they\'s all pretty good me thinks...although ana-whatever (can neverspell those right) isnt very good if your looking for a REAL rpg, it more of an adventure i think...still fun though :D

hey general do you know where i can get any of those game free at to play? im short on cash and i dont really have any clue of where to find them even if i did have the money so if you could help i would apreciate it. im always looking for new games to play

Well, Septera Core does not need a CD to run, and it\'s BY FAR the best game on that list. So renting it, or even buying it for one day, installing, and returning would work, that is if it\'s allowed. The rest you can try and search on Kazza, i have never tried it myself, but might work. Otherwise, can\'t help ya. :D

Usually the games you get off kazaa do not work and most of the time they dont even have the games you are looking for b/c they are so big in size so dont count on getting it off kazaa. :(
