Post by: Spartan8 on July 23, 2002, 01:42:17 am

Such an AMAZING sword. It\'s SO amazing I cant even recognize that as a \"sword\".  The blade resembles something like \"Image Hosted by TRIPOD\". Perhaps those are Magical Runes? Besides, is this the blade?

Dude, get another server =)

well, somehow I managed, with my H4X0RRZ 5|<1LLZZ to break the stupid image security of Tripod and download the sword into my HD. It\'s a  GREAT job.

it looks good. but i think u might have used too many polygons

... how do u put textures on the sword?
Title:
Post by: Spartan8 on July 23, 2002, 07:12:26 pm
I don\'t really make my models to be low poly. If i did that they would look horrible. Things like the hand gaurd wold look like crooked metal and the blade would begin to lose the flowing look and the pomel would begin to look faceted. it would take the best texturing in the would to hide those flaws.

To texture i just used MAX 4.2. I also cheated a little and used the premade metal textures, But i did have to chang displacement blending illumination etc. then i just used the default renderer.

If i did get on the team(I will be applying soon) i would workon either cut scenes or buildings and such.

really nice, i especially like the blade.  To me it looks like it would be a ......\"fancy\" thing that i wouldnt actually want to get messy by stabbing something  :)

Another thing, whats up with the \"More Photos\" section of your page, its just a mess (to me at least).

uh yeah about that. i started th page just so i could post stuff here on the board, but when that did not work i just started refering peopl to the site. I really have been doing too much work on other stuff to try to fix it. :(

A voulge is a weapon that came from farm tools originaly designed to trim trees and other unreachable plants. It has a 7-8 foot long pole so that the person using it had the extra leverage to cleave through an oponents armor. The are often times refered to as halberds though so that might be where the confusion came from.

good explaination. what 3d program did ya use?
Title:
Post by: Spartan8 on August 13, 2002, 05:10:24 am
I use 3ds max r4.2.

I also found a little more info on the voulge. It was used mainly in larger armys that could afford to have many people stand at the front lines to impale attackers.  They were also used mostly as a defensive weapon to prevent the opposition from breaking the front line.

well, i have to say that\'s some great work. i would love to get into 3d modeling but all the programs are so darn expensive, anybody know of any good programs that are free or atleast $200 or less?

Blender or Milkshape 3D are both free, and there are several more

Thank you, I\'ll check those out right away. Which of the programs is better for someone new at 3d modeling?

Well I use Blender and I love it.  It takes a little while to get used to at first though.  Although you are going to have a hard time downloading it and learning to use it because the company that made it went backrupt.

Okay, well, that will make it a bit difficult, would anyone happen to know where I can download Blender?
Title:
Post by: AendarCallenlasse on August 22, 2002, 09:27:17 pm
Well your best bet would to download it from Kazaa or just browse around for someone who has it for download from their site
Title: Well..
Post by: Tomaseth on August 23, 2002, 03:03:52 am
Well, I found blender, and it has a very neat interface. I might need some sort of an introduction because it is a bit different than some of the other programs I\'ve been playing around with. Thanks.
