Title: Laggy?
Post by: Soulless_Body on January 17, 2005, 07:44:27 pm
Ok when i go into the game it is really laggy?

I have been asking around why this is so? And they say it\'s my video card? But is there any way to fix this laggyness with out buying a new video card? Because really i\'m not go\'ing to buy a new one just to play this game.(Then it want be free?) Lol.

My self thinks it\'s not the video card cause planeshift is the only game that lags for me.

I noticed this same thing yesterday.

I have been playing fine for 2 weeks.   Then last night I got the latest updates (client now says 3.006).   Now the game runs smoothly for a few feet (game distance) then it will just pause for about 30 seconds.    Then the character will start walking again.

This happened in a battle too.  I was fighting a rat, then the system did the weird pause and when it came back I was down to 2 hp and it froze again.   When It unfroze I was in the death realm.

I have a P4 2.4,  512MB Ram and a GeForce 3 Ti 500.

I went into a few of my other games and didn\'t get the freezing issues.

I didn\'t have time to do any other troubleshooting.

I noticed the game seems to studder also.  I get an average of 40-60 FPS.  But I will be walking and all of a sudden it will studder than my FPS will drop to 20 then right back to normal. Then sometimes ussualy right before the game crashes it will drop to 20 but will not go back to normal. I think memory leaks are causing me to get poor frames the longer I play.

IN the planeshift install directory is a file called update.zip.  Unzip and overwrite into the planeshift install directory.    Rerun the updater.   The updater should now be version 1.0.2.3

Not sure what to tell you.   That worked for me when the updater would not update itself.

Not sure is a solution, but do you have the latest drivers of your graphic card?

It SHOULD be in /program files/Planeshift Crystal Blue/

Ary

Dont mean to be rude or anything but If you know nothing about computers, you should not be playing planeshift. You should play some other game that is not in PRE BETA stage.

Or go find your Windows Manual/Getting started guide. Or take some computer courses.

Again not to be rude or anything.

When i say i don\'t know ANYTHING about computers i don\'t really mean i don\'t know anything? I know stuff but theres stuff i don\'t know ok.

I went there and it\'s not there? And i\'m saying i don\'t know how to find it if it\'s not there.

And why can\'t you just tell me how to find it or overwrite it? It can\'t be that hard comon i\'m a fast learner. Well i\'m a bad speller but still i\'m a fast learner.

Why wan\'t any one tell me? pls pls tell me. It cant take that much off your time to tell me can it??

my updater.zip file was in  f:\\games\\plane shift which is where I installed the game to.   I didn\'t know there was an updater temp folder.

Point about lag on most decent games the ping is kept low around 200 however on plainshift the ping sometimes (most of the time) gets up to 540! That is Waaaay to high if you don\'t fix it anyone still on dial up will be lost and anyone withotu 8meg broadband will have a very boring time!

Update!
I have pinged and with small packets inside dos the ping speed increases  from 540 to on average 355 whereas with http://network-tools.com there ping of the server 203.81.47.91 is 272.2 just wish the client made it that!

Yes I noticed some new laggyness yesterday but I havent logged on yet today to check It may have just be because there was alot of strain on the server with all the people updating and so forth... I dunno

Title: Lag

I noticed the same problem.  I have a GeForceFX 5800 Ultra with 256 mb. I use the latest drivers, have one GB of Ram, and a 2.2 GHZ Processor.  Our internet is high speed broadband.  The game used to run fine, then it suddenly started getting laggy really bad - even in places where there wern\'t any people.  If anyone knows the reason let me know!

Well the updater updated a large amount of updates to the game.    So I tried it out.   I still get the same type of lag.

There might be  a client communication error, perhaps it recieves to much data that it has to send out as well.

as for the lag problem, I sometimes experience it too running on a Nvidia Gforce 6800gt and athlon 2.3 GHZ still have to upgrade to 1024 running 512 memory at the moment. But as i found out it\'s not because of either of them it has to do with Virtual memory running out in my case, A defrag solves the lag problem for a few hours. And don\'t start running the moment you\'re in the game give it a second or 5 to completely load. that seems to help too. well in my case that is.

Judging by the system specs they gave Induane and Gilibran should not be getting lag that\'s anything to do with their system!

Must be something to do with the server, perhaps number of players/connection speed etc.

It doesn\'t sound like the player can do anything about it.

I figured I would post what happened on my system.

It turns out it was a hardware failure.   The fan on my video card stopped spinning and it was over heating.   As soon as I replaced the fan, the game started to run fine again.
