Title: Game world
Post by: Silverblade on July 25, 2002, 02:21:36 pm
Just wondering, do you plan to expand the game world much? It may be restricted a bit, being set underground.

Do you plan to have many other cities, or just centralize around this one city.

I am hoping you will make it much bigger because this town we are restricted to now is quite small.

I can?t help but Reply?I found the question amusing for some reason (don?t know why)

The Game world will be a lot bigger then it currently is. The ?demo? is just a test area to test technology and models and such.

It will take place underground in a giant Stalactite that is over 200 times the size of the current city?if not more, while I have the projected size?we really don?t know till we really start mapping, all I can say it is huge?it will take hours to get from one end to the other.

Also as far as expanding there will be many ways to expand both in caves and other large caverns as well as possibly the surface. Lets just say the entire area of the current map is (outside the City as well) is about 1/20th -1/50th  of the world if that?not including dungeons?and unknown areas?that is the ?Civilized area?  dangerous but towns and supplies are near.

Hope that helps a bit.

well...it is sooo big then maybe it would be best to have some kind of transportation to get around the city faster. maybe NPC mages that will teleport you to another part of the city. kinda like a subway station hehe

If it takes that long to get to the other side of the town then i would suggest like little magical teleporters that can teleport you to certain parts in the town. But you would need a lot of them b/c there might be huge lines to get onto one.

Aelya, don\'t you forget about the giant birds, they should be a great way of transport.

I hope thts what he mean because i dont have too much fun walking around towns. I would rather be exploring tons of different geographical areas.

one thing that could make it easier would be if you were alowd to choose where you start when you log on if you are in the city

I think that to help minimize travelling time between towns, you should be able to buy or even hire a horse from some stables. Kind of like in Zelda: ocarina of time on N64.
I dont really like the idea of flying. I\'m not afraid of hieghts or anything, I just kind of makes everything too complex.

Please Dev\'s, I really hope you include that Idea.

Hmm, the flying animals, the pterosaur and the megaras, they are very expensive and ment for the elite antyway. So I think horses or something similar could be quite useful.

How about teleport scrolls and spells?

If i am not badly mistaken i dont think they will be using teleport scrolls and we have allready said something about them also. Teleport scrolls would not teleport you to far anyway so you would just run out of crolls before you got to the nearest rest room...

Well, this about traveling were discussed a time ago (long time ago) and I think one of the devs said that they wouldn\'t include any teleporting to make the game world feel much larger than it really is and therefore give you a better gaming experience, this may have cheanged of course, but I\'m also wondering if there will be enough server capacity to have such a big world.

cause theyd prolly eat eachother  :P  either way, i know that in some games they have some huge map with very large open areas with not much in them.  I didnt really like that too much because if u dont have the money to get somewhere ur kinda stuck, and also i know that in that game ive been out in some place and just plain to lazy to walk back so i logged off.  im not saying the world shouldnt be big, im just saying a good method of transportation would be an absulute requirement, besides the unthinkabley expensive ones, and that there should definitley be camps and stuff in the wilderness areas so u could sell stuff and such so u dont get encoumbered, if they have weight in the game.

I\'ve always wanted to play a game with a really HUGE world. Any other game I\'ve ever played and just walked for like 10 mins i circle the damn world.  Then I\'m just like....oh, ...now what..hmmmm .  I think the bigger the world can be the more fun the game will be.  I don\'t care about flying and being \"fast\", I\'d just enjoy the wilderness on the walk  :D

I agree completly. That is one of the reason that i liked morrowind so much. You could just wander for hours and everytime you found a tomb or a little town you felt excited about it. that is what i like about huge worlds.

Yes, Morrowind. I havent got around to playing that yet. It looks awesome though. Imagine a MMORPG of Morrowind.
