Title: Ati Radeon 9550 256MB
Post by: swift on January 20, 2005, 08:12:10 am
Has anybody played CB sucessfully on this card or a similar one?

I am building a computer kind-off especially for Planeshift and was thinking of putting one in it.

Presently (as I stated about a month ago) I can\'t play ps on my laptop at all due to a bizarre graphics card.

Consequently the entire computer would be kind-of especially useless if the card couldn\'t play planeshift, so I\'m checking first.

Do you guys think that this card is a good one for playing modern games, (such as planeshift and Battlefield 2)?

Thanks

It runs on my laptop alright. It has a 32mb radeon 7500.

it\'s an ok lowpriced card, and should run planeshift just fine..

I think you\'ll have some trouble running Battlefield 2 with high graphic settings when it\'s released though, but if you can settle with that I guess it\'s an ok choice ;)

After some trouble, I made PS work at home on a Win XP with Radeon 9600, 256 MB.

What trouble were you having with the 9600?

Also do you think that I should go for a 128mb , newer card instead? How much difference does lots of ram make?

Would a GeForce FX5700LE 256MB be a better choice?

Any suggestions for a good, ~100 US dollar card?

Thanks

Honestly ive spent alot of money (wasted perhaps)  on upgrading video cards and whatnot and in my opinion if you goin with a budget card you shouldnt waste money on lots of ram 128mb is plenty and the gpu and features of the card are important.  I play PS on my ibook with a 32mb radeon 9200 and it runs pretty smooth.  I also use my pc which has a 128mb Geforce FX 5700ultra which i spent about $225bucks on a year or a year and a half ago.  That model of the fx is really nice and i think by now you should be able to find one around your budget.  It runs PS really well i almost alwats get 60fps.

hope that helped

CS tend to like nVIDIA cards more than ATI.

Thought you would want to know that

The problem I got was that in game I was having 1.0 FPS.
More, updating the drivers of the card has been a really hard thing, considering that card on some win XP has some issue.
