TGTSNBN wasn\'t always as bad. In the begining it was good. The community was nice, and everyone was mostly equal. As time progressed, the \"Members,\" who paid $5 US currency per month began to get more and more and some devoleped a superiority complex towards free players hereafter called f2p. This was the begining of it\'s decline. The company who produces TGTSNBN began to get greedy. Originally for every update that f2p got, members got one or two. As time went on f2ps got less and less, and members got more and more, firmly creating an unintentional(?) caste system. It also began to bring out what I call the Micro$oft complex. Jagex LTD., the responsible company, seemed to care less and less about the f2ps because they got very little ad revenue from us (they didn\'t check their ad people very well, and they were pretty bad). The second version of TGTSNBN came out It was codenamed RS2 at first, but then the old one became know as RS classic. And it was good for the PR(Public Relations) department because free players got about 7 things that members had held a monopoly on as well as about 3 weeks with free access to one part of the forums. Then things got back into the normal swing. Members had about 5 times the land and items and bank space and twice as many skills and abilities. I think alot of people you see posting about paying for PS are conserned about this type of thing. That is the story of TGTSNBN and it\'s collapse from goodness. The lack of non\"member\" anything is the reason that it is considered so pathetic by some, the graphics by others and little to no depth to others, besides the race for levels that was discussed in the gamergod interview about PlaneShift and what it will not be. I see alot of people asking about it, and it needed to be said, so that people know what others are talking about with the game that shall not be named.
Just one tangent though...
RS really pales in comparison to PS in every conceivable way. between the couple of cities currently available in CB there are at least as much things available as are available in TGTSNBN, excepting a few things such as fish, archery ect. in the 9 cities accessable to f2ps in TGTSNBN. It may be interesting to note that members have access to 21 cities and about 30 or so more quests in those lands. All but that last little bit is about the most unbiased account I can give, as I was a member of RS almost from the beginning. It\'s still pretty biased.
-
well of course rs is worse then ps,
p is 2 letters above r (pqrs) meaning we are better,
that game had serious flaws, i must admit. they failed to keep players interested.
-
How random. But interesting. :)
For those who don\'t know what the censored game is called, it\'s Spoonscape (R00nescape ... Runescape).
-
I stayed with it for as long as I did only because my friends played it. There was no good alternative at that time.
-
well, their was diablo which is the best their is for hanging with friends, not d2 but just plain diablo. it only takes an hour or two to beat the game ;)
-
We didn\'t know that. But like I said, what was once good and exceptable became what is now known as RS.
-
... they never really update the size of the map, they just keep adding more and more quests. i remember when runecrafting cameuot. it took them 4-5 days to get to lvl 99
-
lol, except they added 2 new islands. 1 of which seems to be ruled by monkeys and is called ape atoll or something like that, and one called misselania...
-
ok rewnscape is the worst game i have ever play (with its reasons of coarse) im not trying to sound biased here.
mainly because of all the little inmature anoying children that play that game. they walk around calling everyone noobs because rewnscape is the only place they get the power to do so, and the only way they win in life so they soak it up whilst they can. basically there is a lot of loosers that play that game.
im not calling people that play rewnscape loosers of coarse.
-
I heard that Jagex actually make more money from f2p because of the ads.
I too was only playing because friends played but when Dungeon Siege came out I couldnt be convinced to go back :P.
RS is ruined by the people that play since the good mmorpgs are the ones with good communitys. Its scary that this kind of thing can happen to any mmorpg. The community will be doing fine and then the little kiddies will move in and constantly annoy the older players and eventually they just get fed up and leave. It can be worse in mmos that have a monthly fee because of the kiddies that can afford to pay (Ive even experienced this in star wars battlefront).
RS is quite a good game its just what Jagex is doing to it and the community which turn alot of people away.
-
last time i ever played this was because my friends at school were, only difference i was a different kind of player.. haha instead of fishing for hours on end i got my mining and smithing up to 60+ before i quit, gave my account away to a friend who sold it for $5 that bastard... i had members for 3 months, members wasnt all that great except making and going through 1,000,000 pretty quickly, i remember funny things that happened... well anyway back then i had very low standards to MMORPG\'s then i subscribed to Anarchy Online and look at me now :P

I played RS for a long time. It was pretty much my first MMORPG, so I thought it was great. You could actually talk to other people while playing an RPG. Awesome. After about a year of that, I started looking around, playing betas and other free games (never payed a cent for a mmorpg), but I kept comming back to RS because of all my friends there. After a few betas, I realised that these non-full version games were far better than the full version, supposedly advanced RS. I wandered for a long time, searching for the perfect game until I finally stumbled upon Planeshift. Yay...
RS skill system is, well, at least they have a variety of skills. Its not a hack-n-slash, but for some reason, when you are cooking or mining, it feels exactly like hack-n-slash. click...click...click...
-
Yep. This is what you get when 12 year old 1337 speaking noobs take over a game, the company forgets who their customers are, all with the repetitive monotomy of click-click-click ing to gain levels in everything.
-
Just my comments
Jagex does not make a lot of ads on f2p because people rarely click on them, two Jagex does actually listen to players that?s why they have a poll every month sometimes about what players like in game
Which is your favourite Guild?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Champions Guild 808 votes / 6%
The Cooks Guild 469 votes / 4%
The Crafting Guild 617 votes / 5%
The Fishing Guild 1284 votes / 11%
The Heros Guild 1465 votes / 12%
The Legends Guild 2870 votes / 24%
The Magicians Guild 898 votes / 7%
The Mining Guild 1479 votes / 12%
The Prayer Guild (Monastery) 228 votes / 1%
The Ranging Guild 1479 votes / 12%
And usually they will expand on that guild or create a new guild based the foundations of the old one (taking lots of skill to get into ect)
The reason that the graphics are not very good is because of the simple fact that not everyone has broadband and the fact that it is made using java.
A lot of free to players are whiny gits (no offence to anyone here) but they complain about everything and every time a skill or a quest comes out they complain, take for example the new skill Slaying. Ok it may not be original but the tasks to raise your slaying level involve killing lots and lots of creatures, f2p training spots are already crowded to bursting.
Most of the money that f2p makes through ads (which as I said before is very little) is probably used to buy new servers for them.

Yeah, they/we do complain alot, but can you name any real way for an f2p to make his/her opinion known?
\"You must be a member to vote in the latest poll.\" It\'s just really irksome that\'s y i quit after getting 1 character to lvl 63 and a lvl 16 character to 50 fishing and cooking...

Multiply that figure by about 5 and it\'s pretty accurate.
But still, the general idea is the same. And prayer, the only skill that was near impossible to power level, was suddenly one of the easiest skills ever, because of the ability to turn everything into a cert or whatever they\'re called now.
I\'m done. I don\'t wanna get started.

I used to be obsesed with this game literally. Until i found Ragnarok online and i got obsesed with that :)
-
Well, so it isnt a loss for me that I never tried it.

RS was my favorite game of all time, i still play from time 2 time, but since my membership expired their isnt much to do. The thing that really ruined RS was RS2. It completly changed rs. All the old and faithfull members like me and my friends and f2p people liked the old, now, RSC game much more. They thought if they left it up then we would still pay to be members. But if they never monitor it then it is almost worse than not having it up at all. I mean you cant take 5 steps in that game w/out running into an autoer. Auto fishers, Auto minners, Auto cathers, Auto everything! So once it became utterly impossible to play rsc i decided to try rs2 again. It wasnt 2 bad with the addition of treasure trails. The quests were aweful tho, since it takes so much longer to get from place to place. It started to become pretty fun to go get clue scrolls from monsters and then try 2 get rare equipment. But then my membership expired. Now there is litterally nothing to do. All the worlds on rs2 are full to the bursting, i cant do any of my favorite skills (Thieving and high level magic) and...worst of all there are no treasure trails in f2p. I now have quit on all files of mine except 2. A lvl 75 main, and a lvl 38 prayer pure. I also had a lvl 44 pray/rune pure, a level 29 battle mage (67 magic) a lvl 34 blk pure, a lvl 24 iron pure, a lvl 18 iron pure, a lvl 18 pure archer (36 ranged) a lvl 23 pure archer (44 arching) a 56 fisher ( 67 fishing) and alot more other accounts that wernt as good. So yeh, thats the completly random story of my rs experience.

Ah, yes. Another reason the game sucks. There are no limitations on how many characters you can have, so most people have at least 4, taking every name possible. They never delete accounts, so the only way you can create a new character is by adding five numbers on the end to make it unique...
Also, multiple characters ruins the game in and of itself. In real life, you are one person. You can\'t start new if you screw up. IMO, they should limit the accounts to one per person. I know it is impossible to enforce it, but if there was a way to limit accounts to one per person, the game would be much better.
Same goes with PS. I think we should be allowed one character each... no more.
-
Ah, the game that shall not be named, so many happy memories, so many complete nightmares ;)
Wasn\'t always such a terrible place you know, I remember the early days when mithril armour was the very best you could ever hope for and that seemed impossible to attain! The map was tiny, the community was warm, welcoming and friendly. Certain parallels can easily be drawn here, but I know that here we\'ll learn from the mistakes of the past and of others and not end up the same way and repeat history :)
This thread almost makes me nostalgic, maybe I\'ll see if my old character still functions and blow a few cobwebs off her ;)

I just want 2 point out that you can tell if some1 has more than 1 account by checking and seeing if ne 2 accounts have the same IP adress.
-
IP adresses can easily be changed.
-
My cousin can\'t play Planeshift because adware and viruses raped his already puny computer into a nearly nonfunctioning state, so he thinks spoonscape is the best thing out there.
I played it for 30 seconds and wanted to kill myself.

:) some people have more then one \'account\' for anonimity, like GM\'s for instance...
-
i want to see plenty of game moderators in this game that ban all little d**k heads that play constantly.
for instance if they are anoyning or abusive it would be nice to see gms mute them ect or ban them.
if they come back, they will be better behaved ect...or they get banned again.

ok this is what i hate about some children and grown up tools playing computers.

Thanks for posting this topic, gives us somthing to laugh at for the day.But your logic is right, most non-payers are annyoing and n00bish.I take it that you are all people that played to level 10 and didn\'t see any of the high level quests.
Anyways. The moment I logged onto Planeshift, did a little walking around, saw how the people acted.Did a few skills.Laughed.Quit.Laughed some more.Posted my review on Onrpg.
Runescape deserves a chance. Last night there were over 100,000 people online at the same time. You guys need to get high levels and try some of the uber-quests,then you will see that runescape is a good game.
And since you found aclever way to mock RS, id do the same-Planeshit
merry christmas plz?

Screw you just screw you.
Starts strangaling Babz, stop proving that RS pepole are losers. Stop being an loser (in response to the thread at runevillage.)
Oh and if anyone else from runevillage comes here then the name runescap is banned because of these types of threads.
Mods I ask for a closure of this thread and a new rule, these threads to be closed on creation and directed to another forum thread explaining the views about poonscape.

I just finally stopped laughing. Wow.
You just made my day. I didn\'t know how badly one could screw up mocking a game.

LoL... They sound like a fun bunch. :) I especially like the moderator who comes in flashing his \"shields\" right after Monketh returns the favour of this \"Babz\" guy and posts in their forum. Hypocritical geniuses of comedy, they are. :D

Can\'t help but wonder whether those people actually read the tread... It was staded in alot of places that many of us played the game for an extended period of time, and got fed up with it. The \"f2p game\" is more or less a chat server, but telling a friend to bring his Multi-tap to my house to play unreal was cencored for the letters around the hyphon... Also, many of us where over 40 or so... I would like to mention that there is a completely uninforced policy that players can only have 1 account. I saw a person tell Jagex all of his accounts, and they didn\'t say a thing. I know people with a dozen accounts, of course one of them was hacked a dozen times and kept recovering his account. When it happened to me, the recovery thing stated that if I was a member I would receive priority support. That means they can\'t even have an unbiased method of cust. support. I can\'t help but find the whole thing funny.
For those who would like to see their forums use the account Planeshift1
password: planeshift. I just made the account, and f2ps can\'t post so the best you can do is look at the stuff...
-
Ahaha... that is awesome. Good job Monketh. :))

I love the part that says that RS F2P only has 2 cities, while P2P has over 30. By their logic, then P2P only has 3 cities, 2 of which are already avaliable in the F2P game.
If you count up the number of F2P cities on the world map, you will find that they actually have a total of 9. 9 out of 30 is much better than 2 out of 30. I suggest you actually play the game before criticizing it. Yes, F2P does have less things to do than P2P, but you have to think of F2P as a demo. It is not a full game, it is merely a TRIAL VERSION. If you want the full version just fork over the $5 a month; it really isn\'t a big fortune.
Oh, and yes, the majority of people here do have atrocious grammar. I guess I have to let you have that one.

Also, it\'s interesting to note that Jagex insists that f2p is not a trial version as posted by \"stryker\" (prolly just another wannabe...) He actually gave Jagex less credit than me... Another thing is that, unless you have a credit card, it costs 7.50/month not 5. Yeah, it\'s a small margin, but it\'s still makes him even more inaccurate.

i played to combat lvl 70 and had members :( so they cant say i didnt know the game, i played it as my first MMORPG, but now i see how bad it is in comparision to many other MMORPGs
I was actaully well known among some and the \"clan\" i was in, until i \"mysteriously vanished\", hahaha... i must admit when i first started it was fun exploring, bah hit lvl 40 and you knew everything, then i got members, explored there did many things, focused on my main skill of mining... brought fishing to tie with mining later...
just do search for Longu on the hiscores... of course its been ahile and ive slipped low on many skills i was ranked in the 100\'s in at one time... sigh... i remember i was trying to get my attack to 65 last ...
i must say, those people on those boards obviously havent really looked at our boards or spent any real time in game... bashing on the combat, idiots dont they realize this game is still in development?
-
no. In my experiance on RS, there are 2 types of players. Those who are intelligent, and those who aren\'t. The intelligent ones wouldn\'t have attacked something they don\'t know nething about. Lack of knowledge on our part is the reason I created this thread and just one of the unintelligent RSers came and turned it into this, granted this is fun too...
-
Meh, most are the kind that dont speak english, their primary language is leet.
Or theres myself, who played it waayyy back when it was only three game servers, I speak english but it turns into *** * ********* ************, and I didn\'t even swear..
Aside from that, a lot of people don\'t bother to read the \"In development\" and fail to appreciate the beauty of open source. And yes, if I had to pay for a game, it would be one of the better ones, like ragnarok or horizons or something. Pfft.. I would even make my own if I could, but I know no willing programmers... *rants*
I am not putting anymore comments on here.. meh.

they waayyy back when was when RS was the best game I\'d ever played, and it was a truly good game, with a kind community, helpful higher levels, and no members thought they were better. Not all members think they\'re better than ne1 else though. I did some asking around at school today, and found out that the Rune Village people are some of the dumbest RSers out there. I have friends who are f2ps and p2ps, and they all agree.
-
I played til combat level 74, bags, i even fork over the cash for members (still play on occasion, but only to do favours for my friends on f2p).
The main reasons i left were the attitudes of the people like those on rune village, and the immense boredom that came from the quests being tedious and the updates being too far apart, meaning no new things to do for extended periods. (i refused to even try and rp on RS.. too many imbeciles around)
-
I\'ve noticed that too. Standing on the island fishing, it is somewhat disheartening to see people \"selling fire\"... I hope that this never happens to something as wonderful as Planeshift...

Unless the GMs are very strickt and are enough to be just about every where get ready.
However if we ALL stand ready and stand our ground we just might be able to weed out some of the worst of the bunch.
Let them come those of us who are willing to make a stand to keep Planeshift not just a good game but a great world will be here waiting for them!
And just incase any of those runevillage peeps return
Hatchnet Dubon(Planeshift) aka Rubble Noon(Runesc@pe)

I have played many mmorpgs as part of a study. The greatest difference of game communities, I have experienced so far, is between Runescape and Ryzom.
In Runescape people, according to my experience, care little of other players - except if they see a good trade comming. When I was playing, scamming was a great problem in Runescape and all the players would focus on was leveling and gold.
When I entered the world of Ryzom, I was met with a whole different attitude - it seemed that the players couldn\'t help eachother too often.
Can you validate this, and what are your thoughts on what makes a good game community?
-
Im not sure if these are opions, statements or arguments :P.. im confuzled ?( ?(
-
Heh. Sorry about that. I think that my reply will be: Yes. :P
A little of all, but cut it down to this:

the answer to that is easy. All three are present here. My original post alone contained all three. Almost every later post contained at least an argument and an opinion, and many contain statements of fact. You just have to take things that people say, and if your not sure, test it, but at least take it with a grain of salt. It is not humanly possible to be completely impartial to something. I used to love TGTSNBN, but now I can\'t tollerate it...
-
Originally, TGTSNBN was a good game, but it recayed into this disease very common in the MMORPG: Evil Plot 1.0:
- Make a addictive game
- See it\'s potential
- Make yourself greedy
- Make a darn limited free account system
- Makes the poor addicted players pay for the \"uncaped or unlimited version\"
- Get rich.
I hope that PlaneShift don\'t recay in this...
Sorry if I was too rude to the TGTSNBN lovers... But this the truth
-
more or less a reiteration of my original post in a nice concise post. Nice.
-
If I can say 1 thing good about TGTSNBN it\'s that it has a cool icon... A little sword thing.
