Title: PlaneShift Modding Community
Post by: ArcaneFalcon on January 27, 2005, 05:26:24 am
I would like to announce the opening of a website dedicated to the modding of PlaneShift.  You can find it at www.ps-mc.com (http://www.ps-mc.com).  Currently we have only a few mods, but that leads to the second reason for this post.  If anyone would like to contribute we are more than happy to accept submissions.  Just check out the rules on the main page and contact one of your friendly PlaneShift Modding Community admins (josePhoenix, Zeraph, or myself).  You can PM us, or join #ps-mc on freenode (faster than a PM).  If you are going to contribute regularly I would really recommend joining #ps-mc for collaboration, help, etc.  We\'re really looking forward to hosting as many mods as possible, so drop on by!   (http://www.ps-mc.com)

note: ps-mc also hosts the stats for #planeshift on freenode.  Just visit www.ps-mc.com/stats (http://www.ps-mc.com/stats).

Oh yes!!!!

The Klyros is being built! I am so happy! Hopefully I be able to start my new character after the world wipe as a Klyros! Thanx to those who are working on the Klyros model!!!! :) :) :D

EDIT:
I think the PS symbol for targeting is a good idea, as it won\'t be mistaken for a spell effect.

As for the magic missile, with that many arrows you surely can\'t miss!

I\'m working on that one, but I\'m sure the PS team has one of there own they are making, if my model makes it in-game it will probably be as some sort of monster or enemy etc.

There is also a ps-mc chan on freenode associated with it.

Just a note, the download base is growing.  There are currently 4 cursors (two added today), 4 target markers, a beta klyros model, and a cool arrow effect.  Check \'em out - http://www.ps-mc.com

We\'re happy to host pretty much anything so long as it complies with the rules (see the homepage).  I know there are tons of those loading screens floating around so go ahead and give us a hollar.  Either PM us (josePhoenix, Zeraph, or myself) or let us know on #ps-mc on freenode.

Hmm, I think you should add a screenshot of each mod next to the description. You can\'t really know what it looks like until you download it.

You get to see a screenie if you click on the name pf the item.

Icefalcon: The cursors are pictures, so there\'s no thumbnails needed.  As for the other mods, I just added picture links to all of my mods, and we\'ll make sure to add links to sample pictures in the future.  I\'ll try to get the others to add picture links to their mods as well.

...call the priest, we\'ve got a thread resurrection...

When ps-mc (http://www.ps-mc.com) has news we\'re going start posting it here.  Since we\'ve had 2 updates recently I\'m going to post them both.  See the site for any previous news as well as download details.

Zayek\'s Halberd - Saturday, May 21, 2005
This mod, from our very own Zayek/Demarthl, replaces the traditional broadsword with a deadly halberd! Beware, this weapon is not for those without skill, it is no mere beast-whacker. All I will say is, don\'t go running to zayek if you balance it in a corner of your room and in the night it falls over, cleaving you in twain. (click thumbnails to see full size)

Zeraph\'s Bamboo Fishing Pole - Thursday, May 12, 2005
I just can\'t wait for fishing to be implemented so I decided to model a bamboo fishing pole. This mod comes complete with instructions on how to transform any weapon into a fishing pole, but you can install it quickly & it will replace all claymore. I can\'t wait until we will have a pond that we can sit & relax with a fishing pole, chatting with friends. But until then this will have to do. Thanks to Drey for helping beta-test it:

Magician\'s Stave Mesh - Friday, May 27, 2005
This mod is a magician\'s stave that replaces the claymore. The light-blue ball rotates and even sparkles a bit.

Call to Modders! (and some other people too)

If you have previously submitted a mod to PS-MC.com, it is gone! We switched to Mambo open source CMS because of security issues with PHP-Nuke and all the old mods that work with the new client need to be resubmitted. Make an account and pay a visit to the Mod Repository at http://ps-mc.com/index.php?option=com_remository . Once you\'ve done that you should see a \"submit download\" link which you can use to add your mod to our moderation queue. If it makes the cut (and most do!) you\'ll see it in it\'s appropriate category in a week or two.

Now, regarding the \"other people too\".

If you know how to tell a good tutorial from a bad one, you can help us by searching out tutorials that you think would be useful to someone creating mods for planeshift or looking for tips before applying to the development team. When you find one, log in. Then look under your \"User Menu\" for \"Submit Weblink\" and fill out the form.

If you are cool enough to be one of those people that writes tutorials, try writing one that would be useful to modders. Examples include, setting up a test server using mingw on windows, painting a texture for a 3d mesh, modelling some simple thing in blender, editing gui definitions (psroot/data/gui/ stuff), and I could keep going and going...

If you have submitted mods in the past but they no longer work with the official client, we would be much obliged if you could take a moment or ten to update them. This applies mainly to spell effects and target markers, since the format has changed since many of them were released.

If you want to help but don\'t know what to do, just drop by #ps-mc on irc.freenode.net and we\'ll find something.

In fact, \'twould be nice if more people came to #ps-mc on freenode for whatever reason ;)

Wow... that was long winded.

Edit: I forgot something!
The links for downloads posted above by ArcaneFalcon no longer function since they point to the old php-nuke installation.

Edit2: Argh... looks like there are still some kinks to be ironed out. As of now it seems that regular users cannot submit downloads or news... if you have something you wish to submit you will have to email it to me at my forum username @gmail.com (Why can\'t anyone just make a cms that works >:| )

Wow, it\'s been a while... o.o

Anyhow, PS-MC has changed once again, and this time we\'re going to try our very hardest to have a steady stream of content ;]

Stuff you may have missed:

Thrydwulf\'s Conversion Guide (from the Crimson Order, we just host the images)

Nikodemus\' GUI mod

and a link to a blender tutorial I found about Making a Spiral Staircase

All this and a little bit more at PS-MC.com! (http://www.ps-mc.com/)

Oh, and don\'t forget about our forums... (http://forums.ps-mc.com/)

cheers \\o

It is a shame that you have the default style on the forum.
Try a different style on the forum to zip it up
Style Demo (http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo.php)  << try them out
Download them (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/catdb.php?db=2)  << Plenty of choices.

Or you can mode it easily.
Just look fore the directory with the art and change it.

Hahah, Karyuu to the rescue ;]

I was going to post that last night, but when I came back to my computer the window was still open with it :\\ I fell asleep on the keyboard.

Just to make it clear, those are not the official PS forums, nor are they connected in any way to these forums. You still must register an account ;]

I\'m trawling for blender tutorials at the moment, so keep an eye on the main site, I might have a few to link to.

Karyuu,

Yes that is a nice style.  However, it\'s not the default one.  If you go to form General Admin and click Override User style and replace the default from Subsilver to the modified style.  Then the guest will get the nice artwork as well.

Another thing to do is to delete subSilver altogether.  You may want to make yet another style available that isn\'t brown due to the fact some monitors have real trouble with it (ie I saw this on my mother\'s monitor which isn\'t that great and could barely read the form).

Just trying to help a little.

Woops, thanks for the correction Fish :) I must\'ve set it as my own default long ago and forgotten. It should definitely be the first viewers see though - the other themes don\'t compare.

@Gentar and Baldur: The stuff is mostly still there, it is just no longer in a nice list. I\'ll work with AF and try to organize them a bit better today.

Thank you much, josephoenix. This has been bothering me for some time now, so I figured it must be bothering others just as much.

Added info: The mod makes the edit and view windows 700 units wide, closer to the same as a normal text editing program. I left the view window shorter so you can still see all the action.

Note: you can edit the XMLs to make the windows any size you wish, but you WILL HAVE TO move all the button and textbox possitions as well, and make sure none of the boxes overlap.

Here is the bigger pic of the edit window (reminds self to use noloss next time):

as with some recent updates (I'm not sure which, to be honest) this mod now causes a crash, an example. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v481/Demarthl/crash.jpg)

luckily, thanks to Cherppow it's already resolved, the problem was a line of code in the chardescwindow.xml

Code: [Select]
<widget name="Description" factory="pawsEditTextBox" multiline="yes">
simply edit it into this (remember to turn 'read only' off when saving and back on after so it isnt overwritten!)

Code: [Select]
<widget name="Description" factory="pawsMultilineEditTextBox">
simple as that.

I'll check the backups.

I fixed the links in my original post.  The only one I didn't fix is the one for zph's fishing pole download.  He has like four copies of that rar uploaded and I don't know which is the correct one.  It's probably either this one (http://www.ps-mc.com/zeraph/Fishing/ZphsBambooFishingPole.zip) or that one (http://www.ps-mc.com/zeraph/Fishing/Zeraph's Bamboo Fishing Pole01.rar) or one of the other two...

Zayek's mod is fun, but what directory do I place the textures in?  The models are working.  I'm assuming the PNG files are the models... I couldn't find the broadsword equivalent.

Edit:  I typed "PNG files are the models" when I meant to type "PNG files are the textures".
Title: Re: PlaneShift Modding Community
Post by: Karyuu on February 09, 2007, 05:43:38 am
PNGs are the textures - the models themselves are usually .SPR files for items.

Current weapons are stored in /art/things/weapons.zip - so the replacing/renaming should be done there. I believe you just drop the entire halbred mod into that archive and let it overwrite the default broadswords.
Title: Re: PlaneShift Modding Community
Post by: josephoenix on February 09, 2007, 05:45:02 am
.png stands for 'portable network graphics', so those are the textures. Since all the models switched to .dds textures, they may not work any more. I'll take a look at it in the morning and see what I can do :]

Title: Re: PlaneShift Modding Community
Post by: Karyuu on February 09, 2007, 05:47:38 am
You can still use .PNGs - you just have to specify it in the item files, which Zayek would have already done. There should be no problems.

Did I miss a "We have moved" announcement, or did this quietly go under before I could find it?
