Title: Guild wars
Post by: Sabrewulf on January 29, 2005, 12:02:13 am
OK I finally found a guild that will help me test the guildwars option. Thanks to The Core we have begun a friendly guild war to see what it is bugged or lacking. Here is the list of what we have found so far.
1)There isn\'t a way to tell who your enemies are and some suggestions are that the enemies name is a different color or there is an \"enemy guild\" window put in the guild options window. For now we can use the guilds MOTD for a heads up.
2) None of the Zonechanges or Spawn points have a guard of any sort so spawn camping is a problem we foresee.Suggest a timed Zone buffer to allow escape.
3) We started this test with a bogus guild we made.Possible exploit is a guild can make a bogus guild and have it yield many times to gain the Karma points.Suggest a guild have a time limit before being able to start a guildwar like the guild needs to be 2 weeks old or something. Also if implemented as I have heard planned is the possibility of personal Karma points per kill made.We also see the same exploit of dummy characters made or guild jumpers to try and gain Karma.Suggest that the member be at least a week old in the guild.
4) After Linkdead server doesn\'t remember the war.Crashes are fine as all it is is a disconnect but server wide crash loses war information.

More to come and I hope this helps the Devs.

OK it seems that it is possible too attack people that are not in the guild that are having war with each other.

It is not certain for what reason we can attack them, some peple can be attacked some not... we thought it would be a secret guild that is attackable but we tried and it seems that this is not the case...

Ok with big thanks to the Core for aiding us in this test and and playing with honor and fairness.Yesterday we had an all out war with at least 10 people from each guild. And in conclusion we found out this.We are very happy with how the  system works.Good Job to the Developers that made it.But we do have one more suggestion. Both guild\'s members reported a problem with one area , Hydlaa, as they all found it irritating to be training only to be attacked from behind while training skills. We would like to suggest that if there is any way to do it that Hydlaa should be made a \"no PK\" zone so that people can skill in peace if they don\'t feel like playing in the war.We figured every other place has Mobs in it but that city and it seems reasonable that anywhere that has mobs, like sewers, arena, Laanx Dungeon,Ojaveda and the entire area outside Hydlaa would be fair game for the war.Inside the city has none and we feel that guild battles also should not be allowed inside for the reason stated above.
So we conclude our test with very good results and only a few problems.

Imo a war doesn\'t have rules, honour or fairness :P. If you get caught training and get Pk\'d then too bad ^^ It\'s perfectly fair seeing as both sides can do the same thing. I also don\'t think you should be able to see who\'s in an enemy guild by a colour of their guild/name. You should have to look around carefully and make a note of who\'s in an enemy guild. You shouldn\'t be able to see them from a mile away. Secret guilds should become unsecret for the guild they\'re having a war with I think, but for nobody else.

In my opinion, during middle ages, war was conducted with some honor, some warning, and you knew who you were fighting.
War did not turn into guerilla warfare until 1700\'s or so, I believe. I could be wrong.
It is my understanding that keeping with medieval age is what this is all about.
I would like the thank the Circle of Legends for the honor and fairness that they showed througout the test, both guilds showed maturity and wisdom.
On Sabrewulf\'s ideal of idenitification of guilds at war, I suggest a battle flag over their heads. Simple and keeping with the medieval ideal.

Maybe it makes more sence to have patroling guards in city\'s that enforce the law. If you get caught killing (even npc\'s) in a city you could get on the city guard wanted list... just like on MUD\'s in the old days (:
This way killing in city\'s would be disencouraged.

Not all of us want to fight with honour or fairness ^^ \"Guerilla warfare\" style guild wars should be supported as well as the \"lining up opposite each other and charging\" style :) And not every army in the middle ages fought like that, only the europians, and they didn\'t fight with much honour or fairness. Letting the peasents charge each other and rip each other to shreds while you stand there watching until it\'s time for a cavelry charge near the end isn\'t very honourable or fair is it? ;)

As this guild war was for testing, we (The Core and The Circle of Legends), decided to conduct ourselves in a way to allow us and the Devs to find bugs and try to correct them, without ripping each others heads off and making enemies that would remain after testing was over. I myself, feel that I have made new friends with most of the Circle of Legends and hold them in high regard.
However the Devs decide to build on this, is of course up to them, but IMHO, some rules of combat between the guilds is a good thing.

IMHO wars aren\'t meant to be fair....

as i recall by the players guide and the interview i read, the main purpose is to simulate a real world/universe...

i agree that there should be something to diference the char you are at war with (guilds members, except the secret ones, are always proud to show that tey belong to one) and i agree with the non-agression in the spawn and zonechanging areas, because you could only wait there to kill someone.....

i don\'t agree with you be unable to kill someone that is training. it\'s not real... for your foes, your training is a bad thing... they don\'t want you to do it...
honerable people (good guys) should not kill char that are training, in order to gain respect within the community
on the other hand, you may not want to be a good guy...why shouldn\'t villans and \"bad\" guilds attack from behind????

if you want to train you should do it carefully (if your at war, of course), take a good position and be alert... it doesn\'t take that much time to train, and it\'s easy to interrupt...

i think whatever is the devs decision, we\'re (sorry for wanting recognition too :P ) building a great game...
