Is there a way to greatly reduce the lag I get when I play by messing with the settings or something? Don\'t tell me to get a new computer or something, I won\'t. Just want to know if I can make it at least a little smoother.
If your wondering, I am Alton Devir. People have mentioned my laggingness in-game.

I had a rough start with CB too. Although i have found this not due to a lag issue at this point. The newest technology was put into this game so you sould use the newest equipment. The game runs perfect for me using dial-up. What I had to do was upgrade my video card and ram memory. I recommend upgrading your ram to 512 and getting a video card with at least 256 on it. This will allow you to move around without any freezing up and give you the PS experience that was intended.

if other people are saying about your lag it is most probably net lag, if your cahracter jumps around a bit in game and jumps back and forth when you are running it is your internet. Your ping may be very high or jumps a lot, this can happne on dialup connections or on any connections if you are far from the server.

ati cards lag a bit if you have one, but 256 SDRAM and a 128Mb gfx card ran it fine on a 800 Duron, so dont go wasting money on those, check your computer for excess processes if your running XP \"Ctrl alt+del\", get a spyware program, get ad-aware if you dont want to buy one, and also check for viruses, clearing out the extra procresses should speed it up a bit, but thats only if its graphical lag really
if you have net lag, then we cant do anything, if you have a firewall make sure it isnt blocking PS, i dont know the ports exactly... but hope that information helps...

The pings down to 289 for me now but still gose slow for me. And i get net lag when i got the best net you can get cable. And i got 1000 mb RAM and it still gose slow! And yes my video card is up to date.
-
the pings can be around 400ms and be fine, the game really needs no real speed, all i was getting was 400-500ms pings and my game ran fine :\\
why do all you people lag?
and cable isnt the best internet, sorry to burst your bubble, cable can be far from it, high download very low upload... and its completely outmatched by the sheer speed of T1 and T3...
i still think its graphical lag... try cleaning up your computer a bit, defrag run a days worth of system optimization! :D

Note that the ping that is displayed in the game is not only the network lag. It is no \"classic ping\" like the one you do from you OS\'s command line, since it is the game server (application) that actually responds here, not the machine it runs on. So the latency is naturally bigger.
-
Here is an idea, roleplaying the lag.
Heres only the sound of crickets chirping as he waits for a response
Ok, yea it may sound crazy but is it? You could make up a magical ailment that causes you to flash and jump. It could be said that it is caused by the gods to test the victim or as a punishment. Hmm, could be that people would stay away from you as you walk for fear of the curse you carry afflicts their minds. Just an intresting thought...

make sure port 7354 is not filtered either way, thats the one laanx uses.
the server is in singapore you will get some lag, hefty ram helps ati\'s suck, nvidia\'s suck dont go overboard with a card, stay about 128.
i run ps on:
amd duron 1.1
640mb ddr
geforce 4 mx440 64mb
ntl 750k dual channel broadband
loadallmaps - yes
ping usually 370-460
lags when i first get into the world, sticks for a few seconds when i turn left or right (arrow keys) after 2 minutes it runs smoothly unless i run backwards turn quickly and shoot forwards :)
so basically dont be a hyperactive moron like me and you\'ll run fine ^^

About connections.....
The connection speed of a cable modem is actually quite the same as a T1 connection. In fact T1 is often slower than cable or a DSL connection. Depending on how many people use the internet at once. On the other habd T3 rules.....
but... i wish i had fiber optics..... that would kick....

T1 is a 1.54 megabit/second connection, but due to its nature and traffic, often it is faster than a crowded cable or DSL line, i realise that my 3 Megabit/second cable is measured faster but more often than not the T1 will have downloads a bit faster than I do...
no what would rule is broadbrain .... :D

hey harkin how was it you put it? \"sorry to burst your bubble kid?\" but if u think T1 or T3 are fastest internet connections rthen your dead wrong as these SAMe technologies can go as high as T21 ha my pwnge for the day:D

thats my pwnage for the day...

more like you have to have the newest equipement to make up for the games super high memory usage etc.

The only net i know you can get is broadband and dailup. And dailup SUCKS! And i got broadband and thats the best you can get as fare as i know. And as fare as people are telling me. And did any one stop to think if it was where you live that causes the lag?
Like i\'m from australia (if thats how it\'s spellt lol) and if the server is ran from the other side of the world it WILL be laggy.
