Post by: Kaseijin on January 31, 2005, 09:21:13 pm
i can\'t find ore any regular places.... magic shop or the dungeon... no iron, no gold and no platinum.

Yep, apparently its a bug with the latest update.

And to think I hadn\'t been mining for more than two weeks and just decided to do it today! ;)

Curious - I was in the dungeon last night & picked up a full load of coal and most of a load of platinum.

I just updated and noticed it too. Tried all known places for all ore types but got the message : \"you don\'t see a good place to dig\" everywhere

I also saw that most of the files of the update were graphic ones, if i\'m not mistaking. so it\'s probably got something to do with it.

Other quirk, related but preexisting -

/dig for xxx
\"you don\'t see a good place to dig\"
/dig for yyy
\"You can\'t dig in the same place twice in a row\".

Call me crazy, but it didn\'t let me dig there on the previous try...

Exually that already did happen so it\'s not becuase of the update it says that ;)

I don\'t think that is really an important bug to get fixed but it is something to look at indeed

Actually this is not a bug, the mining system has been changed. As I understand it, instead of having an entire sector designated as a mine, it is now possible to make only certain places of the sector minable. So you will have to hunt out the places that are minable now.

The thread should not be deleted, as it may help other people that are wondering about this.

As a miner... all i have to say is. coool.... this makes my job more interesting and realistic.... i can\'t wait to log on...and i was just about to post a thread about how mining gets too easy once you reach level 3...

By the way, the mining levels too has been reworked, you are now more likely to fail at mining, before you could be almost certain to get something with a level og two and a good pick.

well I believe you but, then they also replaced the mining sites. I just checked the entire rockside where you used to mine iron ore by starting at the utmost point I can reach and then take 3 steps everytime face the rock and start to dig and worked my way round that way. I did about 30 digs at the site and it came up nothing \"you don\'t see a good place to dig\" My mining skill is 2 and I have a sharpened pick?? So that\'s leaves a few options in my opinion.

They made it really really hard to mine

They moved the mining location (at least for iron)

A bug

You\'re not supposed to be there with mining skill 2 and a sharpened pick but need to get better first?

The hill landscape is big. Previously the entire place would work for mining ore. Now only a few spots are possible. Are you sure you investigated all possible spots? I doubt it.

Is there any way of recognising the mining locations?.
Well exept the obious - look for lots of people standing somewere out of towns...

or  miners just have to run around and hope to get lucky once..

Well I \'ve been cruising throughout the entire dungeons .. if the new mining locations are working they are almost impossible to find.

Edit to add: The gold mining places do work.

Yes, we know you cannot get back from that place. Also low-HP characters can\'t get their either because they will die from the slide.

by the sounds of this thread, mining is harder than hell...

Please stop mining everywhere, you are killing the nice and good looking landscape.
More than that, it is useless. Isn\'t it?

Oh bother! Sheesh! @#$! ;)

Look around? OK, but it gets rather boring rather fast, don\'t cha know.

Mines should look like mines - if its not mining then its prospecting - a difference ;)

At the mining place it gets a bit difficult to enter the Dig command over and over again, switching from communication to the game to move - sheesh!
Title:
Post by: Jakob on March 04, 2005, 09:49:05 pm
That\'s why I made a shortcut for gold and iron.
Title:
Post by: Azerelus on March 05, 2005, 05:25:29 am
This is unbearable. I spent several real time hours trying to mine gold - each step I entered /dig at each point I was told \"you don\'t see a good place to dig\"

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

You call that fun? It is exasperating to the extreme.

And Yes, I trained mining until I can\'t train it no more, and yes I bought the best (might as well be gold plated for the price) sharpened pick ax. And even was pinpointed exactly where to \"mine\". Still nothing.

Not even got the bloody ax dirty since obviously there is no place I can see to dig.

Well now that its next to impossible to find a spot to mine then the resources should be worth ALOT more than they were.

I just tryed, and was able to find Coal, Iron, Gold and Platinum.
Coal = 1 tria \"command  =  /dig gold\"
Iron = 4 tria\'s \"command = /dig iron\"
Gold = 6 tria\'s \"command = /dig gold\"
Platinum = 12 tria\'s \"command = /dig platinum\"

And becaurse gold is easy to find and to travel to, that\'s the only thing worth digging.
The Platinum is worth more, but MUCH harder to find, so i go for gold.

And it won\'t even out with higher lvl.
I have mine-skill lvl10 and that\'s max.

If you still wanna dig anything other than gold, there is a way to come down to the dung without getting hurt.
But it\'s a bit tricky.  :P

Good luck.

Platinum is easy to get when you know where to look.

Another thing to consider is weight.  All ores weigh 6lbs with the exception of Coal which is 3 lbs.  So, you will find that although mining is an alternative to hunting for exp and money it is a low yield alternative.  Hopefully that will change when we can get the books we need to learn metallurgy skills and start crafting things.
