Title: Sentinels of the Ragnarok
Post by: Valbrandr on January 31, 2005, 11:17:48 pm
The Sentinels of the Ragnarok:

New developments:

1. We have a new site http://www.plexus.shacknet.nu/ps/index.php
2. Revamped Hierarchy
3. Probationary Levels
4. Some RP added
5. And more time invested

Alpha:

The Sentinels of the Ragnarok (SoR) is a Chaotic Neutral guild. We enjoy the flexibility that we are afforded by our alignment as well. It allows us to be diverse in nature. Though, Chaotic Neutral guilds are often unpredictable, the SoR is unwavering in our quest for a relatively peaceful realm and are rise to prominence as a respected guild. We cannot rest until we fully grasp the Planeshift experience and will not falter on our journey.

Mission Statement

We are the ones who survived the destined Ragnarok? We are to reinvent what was good in the world, and hamper the evil. Our mission is complicated but lucid. The Sentinels want peace. A cooperation amongst men to stop the unnecessary tribulations of the enticement of Conflict. Let peace reign, but not through Order, through Chaos.

Rules:

1. Be respectful to all members and allies.

2. Be active: If you cannot be on for two weeks please notify me, Valbrandr.

3. Be helpful to all players of PS if applicable.

4. Respect all alliances.

5. Take an active role at the forum.

6. Use RP in situations that require it? for instance, while in the Tavern listen to one of Draklar?s Tales.  No SoR member should bare arms in the tavern. No SoR member should ever fight a duel there. And remember it is an RP zone. Do not talk out of character unless you are using guild chat or a tell message.

Our History:

The end of humanity had come and gone with the final battle, Ragnarok, between the Norse Gods and the evil giants from Muspelheim. The world regressed and fell into a terrible ice age. The last two humans wandered down from the Yggdrasil tree in a sullen attempt at replenishing the world. Hope had been lost? At the threshold of death, this man and women prayed to their fallen Gods for solace. This prayer awakened the final three Einharjar from their slumber in Valhalla. They had been put to sleep by the great Odin who knew the destiny of the Gods. These three brave Einharjar, Valbrandr, Induane, and the all-knowing Hyrcanus, who had been imbued with the memory of Munin, bestowed upon these two humans a time without hunger, without bitter cold, and without suffering. The Einharjar became the protectors of the righteous in an attempt to restore humanity to the dismal land.

Time slowly passed human recollection. And what had been made good gradually turned bitter. The humans began to struggle against one another in order to fulfil their aspirations for knowledge and power. The Triumvirate wanted to provide guidance for the people. This was no easy task for the human?s wills had been broken and their faith had diminished. These humans knew that their ancestors could not escape the ecstasy of warfare under their Gods. If the Gods could not bring peace to the lands of the Northmen, how was a group of Einharjar going to bestow peace upon the land. This was a fair question because these Einharjar had very little physical power compared to that of the Gods. However, there was one major difference between the Einharjar and the Norse Gods: The Einharjar was a council of loyal warriors who relied on one another on and off the battlefield. They were three entities with one concise conclusion. In contrast, the Gods meddled in human affairs, they were often divided which caused them to fight amongst themselves and would habitually spill over into the lands of Midgard, and their goal was to keep man subservient to the will of the Gods.

The Einharjar took a different approach. They wanted to grant man absolute freedom in which humans would obtain knowledge for the continuation of the evolutionary process. With their progression would come peace to their lands. This was difficult for the people to grasp, possibly too idealistic for a world ruled by the rationale of humans. There was widespread anarchy for a time followed by a period of divisions and blind hatred between classes and races. There were other problems as well.  This planet that once flourished with its fruits nourishing all its inhabitants was growing weak.  It could no longer provide food for the people of Midgard.

Midgardians grew smaller in stature because of this shortage.  Once great men standing six feet in length? now, in the saddest of times, had shrank to a measly four and a half foot.  They were a sturdy race who became very keen miners; still possessing their grand ability of smithing. Though still healthy the Triumvirate knew something had to be done. Hyrcanus remembered an ancient tale passed down from Odin himself about a portal to another world.  This world was supposed to be a realm of everlasting fertility with enough land and produce enough food to support all who ventured there.  In ancient documents it was referred to as the ?Land of Blessing.?

Hundreds were said to have ventured forth to find their possible salvation.  Great loot and honor was offered to any who found such a portal? and in addition the title of Einharjar would be bestowed upon the masterful one.  One such adventurer, a man with unparalleled lineage who lived in the southern most region of Midgard, found such a portal.  He could trace his genealogy back to Valbrandr.  His name was Lishom; a man who was on a lower rung of the nobility in the second rate kingdom Ullrik.  Instantly, he was deemed the beloved savior of Midgard.

However, as the excitement set in, the Triumvirate knew an important decision had to be made.  Only two of them could leave this world through the portal not knowing the possibility of return.  It was decided that Hyrcanus would stay behind and look after the people who were to remain.  Valbrandr and Induane decided to take nearly half of the people of Midgard away through the portal in an attempt to relinquish the planet of its overpopulation burden.  The chosen ones were given two weeks to say goodbye to their families.  At that time, the great exodus would occur.  It took one week for everyone to arrive.  After a short lecture explaining their goals for this mission? Valbrandr and Induane stepped into the somewhat translucent portal.  There were soon followed by the people of Midgard.  It was a long journey through the portal which sapped everyone strength including Valbrandr and Induane?s.

On arrival to this new realm they were greeted by a being with a tremendous aura about it. She spoke to Valbrandr and Induane sensing their leadership role.  This being was the Planeshift god Laanx.  She was very pleased with both Valbrandr and Induane because they understood humility and were humbled.  After a long conference with Laanx, the settlers were allowed to began work on a village somewhere amidst the Ylian people on the second level where they would be farmers.

The perils of the future were yet to be known by these new people, however what was known was that the people from Midgard ensured their temporary survival in ?The Land of Blessing.?

Hierarchy:

9. Einharjar -This will consist of Valbrandr, Induane, and Lishom. They will make all major decisions concerning the guild. It will be open to the most active, intelligent, and creative players.

8. Valkyr ? This class is made up of trusted and very loyal members who serve as a council to the Einharjar. Are not required to be as active in game but very active at our site and forum.

7. Bjorn (Order Sovereign) ?
There will be four Orders: Warriors Order, Sages Order, Stealth Order, and our Trade and Industry Order:

Warriors Order:

Bjorn: Isitar:

This will be comprised of people who primarily fight in hand - to ? hand combat. They will fight in an honorable manner.

Sages Order: It will be lead by a Bjorn. This will be comprised of people who primarily use and follow one of the six ways. They will assist our Warriors in battle.

Stealth Order: It will be lead by a Bjorn. This will be comprised of the darker element in the SoR: Mainly Trackers, intelligence gatherers (AKA Spies), and possibly in the future Bounties, depending on how the game evolves. However if there becomes no evident need for Bounties in the future it may not materialize.

Trade and Industry Order:

Bjorn: Valbrandr

This will be comprised of Merchants, Crafters, and resource gatherers: Miners, etc. They will run our shops in the future.

Order Rank 5: Cult of Odur - These will be are best warriors. They will defend the integrity of the guild along with the Einharjar with their lives. They should be the most active players and hopefully on each day if possible. They must also be some of the most active people in the forum as well.

Order Rank 4: Jarl ? These will be our one ? on ? one combatants. They are required to be very active and power their characters. They will be our Duelers and represent us in competitions along with our Bjorns.

Order Rank 3: Comitatus - As a member if the Comitatus, this individual will have to choose a path to take. Following either an order or the promotion to the Cult of Odur and possibly later to Bjorn. He/she must stay active and be very comfortable in the PS realm. Also must start bringing new ideas to our forum.

Order Rank 2: Huskarl - Seek and discover the mysteries of Planeshift. Fight for your promotion to the Comitatus. Huskarls must be very active as well and be able to give assistance to Squires and Pages. They also must register at our site and forum.

Probationary Levels

Order Rank 1: Squire - Venture out and explore your surroundings. Gain experience on the battlefield. Be as active as possible for a promotion to Huskarl and tenure in the guild.

1. Page - Get acquainted with more elite members of the group. Absorb knowledge and learn the basics: Mining, fighting, etc.

I will be more than happy to close your thread.  But just a word of warning.  I allow guilds to have a main thread and a recruitment thread.  Anymore than that will be deleted.  Just keep that in mind.
Title:
Post by: Induane on February 11, 2005, 03:10:31 am
We understand.  The idea is to let the other threads die, perhaps request that they be closed.  That may already have been done.  The name of our other threads were vague or long.  We wanted a clean thread to consolidate everything into one main thread.  This will be the main SoR thread from now on.  Most other guilds have a self-named guild, and we felt that doing so would be beneficial, as people would automatically know it was a guild, and what it was named.  Sorry to start so many threads, we were newcommers a while ago and started some threads that eventually were not relevant, that is why we want to let the others go and give us a clean start.  If you want to close our other threads that would be fine - that way they don\'t get bumped anymore.  I understand your concern, it is anoying to have people making a new thread every other day, as it floods the forums with pointless spam.  Thats not what we were trying to do, so if it seemed that way, sorry.

Even if I like the name of your Guild somewhat (and I can\'t tell even why), I can\'t join, as I\'m basically \"ignorant greedy\" by alignment.

P.S.: I think the original D&D-alignments actually hinder roleplaying more than furthering it, for numerous reasons - of course, this is only my biased opinion after being a p&p-GM for 20 years now, without reclaiming the \"truth\" here.
But just out of curiosity: Would it actually hurt, if you donned such self-imposed restrictions?
If you insist on such, you could, i.e. use psychologic or sociologic descriptions instead.
<*warning, irony unrelated to you ahead*>
Not that I suggest this, I\'d rather leave only one descriptions for guilds anyway: Greedy and powerhungry... yeah... being a civil-rights-fanatic in RL makes me rather heavily biased... hehe... :-)

P.S.: I think the original D&D-alignments actually blahblah yaddayadda

Sorry to anyone for picking up the old hat again. Ignore me.

If any admin likes to delete my two posts, feel free... I plead guildy... err guilty... <*yuck*>

I very much agree with you Ragnar.  Thats why we chose Chaotic Neutral.  We believe that it affords us the greatest flexibility of all alignments other than being non aligned.  The problem is that if we had not chose an alignment we would constantly have to explain ourselves... or not explain ourselves.  It helps guilds get recruits because there are understoods about what the alignment will mean and how the guild will act.  I do like the idea of completely forgoing alignments though.

Ah, a politician by nature! :)
(No, this statement wasn\'t meant as an unfair attack, even though some might suspect this... ;-)

Your arguments hit the bulls eye with me.
I wish you success, and even more: Have fun! :-)

It\'s actually extremely accurate.

So, Valbrandr, how goes the guild? I hope you\'re not letting it take second place to URPS in your priority list?

I feared the same thing at first Phinehas, though that has not been the case.  We have nearly finished our new site... not to mention a new and separate URPS site.  We had our first guild meeting this last Saturday... and it went quite well.  The ranks and rank names were adjusted a little and we added a new leader as well.  We currently have about 15 actives in game... and about 8 who play everyday.  Together though, being one of the leaders in SoR and my work in the URPS does devour time... good thing I am a loser  8) .

Edit:  For what we have accoplished I would like to thank Lishom and Isitar.  Lishom created the site and has great ideas... and Isitar, well, if anyone has played in game you would know him... He is very active in game and on our forums.  Lishom is more active then me on the site and Isitar is more active then me in game... it is a good mixture.

I will incorporate this in the document above as well.

No SoR member should bare arms in the tavern.

No SoR member should ever fight a duel there.

and remember it is an RP zone.  Do not talk out of character unless you are using guild chat or a tell message.

*Hugs seperot

I truly believe something had to be done after what happened today.  It made some leave the tavern because of the stupidity of one.  Many of us were rping, like Draklar, Warfo, Flare, myself and a few others.  We were having alot of fun.  But then he came in (Berbodar) and for one would not put away his swords, kepting challenging people, and kept talking about how he wanted to eat elf flesh.  Not to mention he insulted Draklar upon that.

I am not the person who would normally say such things:  Any guilds who care about rp make sure to never recruit Crowdawn/Berbodar.  He has no respect for anyone nor PS.  And BTW: this is the second time he did this.

Edit: Soon I will be rewriting the SoR history in order to make it more PS.  And do not worry Robin.  Soon we will have a guild meeting and discuss this further.

Too all members of The Sentinels of the Ragnarok:

A member of the planeshift community, Zan, is looking to organize a festival:

Hydlaa Festival of the Hunt

As posted by Zan:

Quote
Fellow citizens of Yliakum ...

I would like to present to you the first grand Hydlaa Festival of the Hunt. Hopefully the first of many to come.

It will be a day filled with games, competition, entertainment and of course .. food. There will be tournaments where the strongest and bravest of us can show what they are worth. But strength isn\'t everything to a hunter, what good is being able to strike down your target if you cannot find it first? This is why we will test our hunter\'s skills by organizing a large hunt. There will also be a gambling corner, storytelling and best of all .. free food for everyone who visits, while supplies last. Of course there are also prizes going to our winners.

All in all it will be a day you cannot miss to be a part of. Nobody wants to be that person who hears all the tales afterwards and wishes they had just been there.

To me it sounds like this is a wonderful initative for our guild to show its stregnth, band closer together, rejuvinate itself, and be a part of a wonderful enjoyabe day.

I would like to get as many guild members to attend this.  More info can be found here:

Greeting every and sorry for our apparant absence.  We are currently engaged in a heated debate with our ISP who spontaniously decided that we owe them 440 dollars, despite the fact that we have records showing that we have paid every month.  As a result we are once again without an internet connection at home.  I\'m making this post at work as I have no other access to internet.

We are investigating other ISP\'s in our area, and should be up and running soon.

If you want to catch me between now and thne check the URPS channel as I sit in there during work.

Thanks everyone, I can\'t wait to get back and try out the new crafting abilities :)

I am pleased to announce that  The Sentinels of the Ragnarok will be producing its own skin now that PS supports skins.  The skin will be customized in a theme consistant with the theme of our guild.  The skin is already very far along and Ragnarok_SkinV01 is complete and am testing it now.

Here are some preliminary screenshots:

and

As you can see there are some problems with it - a few minor glitches - some other things as well.  These will all be fixed soon.  If anyone wants to try this one out let me know - it will be easier to install than previous stuff I have done I promise!

Yay a new skin for our guild!!! If only Tataro wasnt trapped in the land between Ojaveda and Hydlaa...

Will this be hard to install?
Title:
Post by: Valbrandr on July 04, 2005, 03:24:10 am
Its pretty simple.  You can even set it up so that when you  update the files will not be over written.  Induane is setting it up and he can give you the step by step instruction better than I can.  But it should be up for download when the site is back up and running.
Title:
Post by: Induane on July 05, 2005, 07:21:49 pm
I have a few more things to finish editing, and some alignment issues to fix tonight, then I\'ll package it up and link a temporary download here in this thread.  For the windows users it should be as simple as opening the self-extracting exe file and browseing to the skins folder.  Linux useres will have to use drag and drop or cp for the tar.gz archive.

Skin is chosen in the pssetup program something that took me a bit to figure out.  I\'ll post a nice howto, some screenshot instructions, and the files hopefully tonight, if not, then tomorrow.

Good to hear from you Frostwolf.  You might get ingame as your stuck char and try getting ahold of a moderator to see if they can teleport you out. :)

Take care all.

Update:

Per Lordbugs suggestion, I have decided to make all new toolbar buttons as well, a daunting task.  I finished 3 of them last night, and should* be able to finish the rest tonight as I finally have a little system worked out.  That is the reason though that I havn\'t put up a link to it just yet, I wanted those finished as it gives the theme a more cohesive look.  I\'ll post some preliminary shots this evening and the first package late tonight.

Extra Extra!! Here are some examples of the buttons.

Do they look alright?

The first version of our guilds skin is done.  I welcome anyone who wants to try it to download it and try it out. And let me know all the parts that suck or are screwed up.

Whats missing:  Some loading screens, and a few icons here and there.  Also its missing a redraw of the attack stance buttons and some others.

To install simply download and then place the zip file into the planeshift/art/skins directory.  Usually in windows its:
c:\\program files\\planeshift crystal blue\\art\\skins

linux users probabily know where its at ;)

http://www.savefile.com/files/5412278

the current file host renames the file so if you want it to look nicer in the skin selector, then rename it to ragnarok.zip.

Please provide me some feedback on this :)

Ohh... and a screenshot in action:

Should be whenever Lishom gets a new cablemodem currently his own site is down as well for the same reason.  If it taks much longer though I\'ll set up a temporary home for us :).

I\'ll update the skin tomorrow probabily, as I have done some work on it.  Valbrandr pointed out a clipping error and I\'ve implemented a more complete redo of the gui.

I said I took the mastermind test. Took, as in complete it. I never said I was the mastermind.

I like how you made the top match with the rest. But do you think you could tweak those \"new\" and \"delete\" brown buttons? Not a major change, so its just my opinion.

Actually when I posted that photo I already had, I just hadn\'t packaged it up to make a screenshot :)

Our web site master has finally gotten his network up and running.  The sites may be undergoing a bit of work, but if you want to join us in chat we still have our IRC channel

Server: plexus.shacknet.nu
Channel #URPS

I\'ll make sure to be in the chat for at least a little while every night for as long as I can.    I hope to hear from all of you soon :)

Title: Announcement!
Post by: Induane on July 20, 2005, 01:26:05 pm
The latest version of our guilds skin is now available for download!

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD (http://plexus.shacknet.nu/planeshift/ragnarok.zip)

All that mucking about with bad free hosts is gone - its hosted on our own server now.  As long as the ftp upload went fine which it seems to have, then all should be good.  Just drop the file in the /planeshit/art/skins directory and fire up pssetup and click on skins.  Select Ragnarok and you\'re on your way!

UPDATE!! Click here for Installation instructions. (http://www.plexus.shacknet.nu/planeshift/INSTALL)

For some people the skins selector is bugged. This has nothing to do with the skin, it is just a Planeshift Bug. To get around this, go to the planeshift directory, usually c:\\program files\\planeshift crystal blue, and locate the file named psclient.cfg

scroll down to near the bottom and find where it says:

Planeshift.Language = english

Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object = false
Video.OpenGL.StencilThreshold = 50
Planeshift.Client.Loading.AllMaps = false
Planeshift.GUI.Skin.Ingame = default

and change the word default to ragnarok - this should work as long as the ragnarok.zip file is in the skins directory.

And there doesn\'t seem to be any bugs!

Great - glad to hear it.  I\'ll update the readme with that workaround, just in case.

If you have any suggestions or would like to see something changed - please let me know frostwolf :)
