Title: linux 0.3006: you are running the wrong version
Post by: miLosh on February 02, 2005, 12:07:30 pm
hello,

i downloaded the linux installerer shell script for version 0.3.006, run the updater but cannot connect to the server. it is always telling me that im running the wrong version for this server.

updater says:
milosh@orbit planeshift $ ./updater -auto
Critical files () not found (Server only)
NOTIFY: psUpdaterEngine initialized.
Downloading registry...
0%....25%....50%....75%....100%
Loaded registry
Checking for updates.. This may take a while
Warning: Couldn\'t find module \'other_os\' in registry.
All files are up-to-date!
Please wait while saving files..
==== Update complete ====

after installation, before running the updater for the first time, i copied the art directory from the old installation. then ran the updater for almost the whole night. today i ran it again, the updater downloaded some files and now it thinks that im uptodate.

any clues what im doing wrong?

Known problem.
At the moment the linux-distribution doesn\'t work at all.

Sure it works. Install the CVS Version :)

the CVS version does not work either. i ran the updater on that too, same error. am i really the only one who has this problem or are there just no linux users?

i mean, its funny somewhat: the game is developed on linux, its opensource, but since CB release i have most of the time windoze booted. are micro$oft financing this project or why is linux support that poor? MB worked smoothly on linux, never had such problems as with CB.

nonetheless, its playable when i can connect, but right now i even cannot do that. so, any help is very welcome ;)

For a short time the linux version was too new, but since then the problem has been rectified and the latest cvs should once again work.

Okay... maybe not.. the cvs changed AGAIN.. which means it\'s incompatible once again. (Least so it seems to me, haven\'t tried compiling it yet.)
Title: Anyone have a working date for CB?

None of the buildscripts I found worked on my systems, but I just managed to use the gentoo tutorial to build from source.  Seems ok, but I can\'t connect to the CB server, and am not ready to start running my own local one with CVS code.

Anyone have a date it worked?  I\'ve tried current, 1-24, 1-25 based on some posts I found, but all give this error.

Also, shouldn\'t I be able to just cvs update -D 2005-1-24 ?  It hangs; I have to do the full checkout again and waste all that bandwith.  Any help with that syntax would be golden.

Anyhow, keep up the good work everyone!  If I can get enough people from my gaming group together, we might just look into writting some small-medium quest or such to help give back.

I think we\'re trying the same things. You can check out my post at the bottom of http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=14255&boardid=33&styleid=3&sid=f390119fefc4917e62be411647236523&page=1#15 - although I have not managed to connect yet.

Please update this thread if you find a date that works, and it\'d be great if you posted the whole chain of commands used to build the working version. :)

Edit: Oh my. \"1 days ago\" worked. :D

i dont get it... what is the sense of making a linux package if it cannot be used? juhee, i could compile it, ehm, but cannot connect... the cvs version (0.3.004) compiled well and i could connect to the server - after the last update 2 days ago it is not longer working either.  i do not see how the cvs - or any - version can be too new, i mean, the updater is taking the files needed and the server is running the latest version - or am i wrong here?

however, could maybe someone of the devs clarify what is going on with the linux version? the package does not work and neither does the CVS version, both seems to be caused by the updater. is there probably a bug, like not changing the versioning after update or something like that? or is it maybe possible to change the version manually to one the server likes? i trust the updater who tells me that all files are uptodate.

It\'s simple: The code is updated in the CVS, and you download and compile it. But generally the server on Laanx isn\'t recompiled with every CVS update. So you get your client version error if the version of the netcode was changed.

ok i see that - but why is the linux package then not working? it was released several days ago, before i ran the last update on windoze.  the windoze version is running fine, but the linux package isn\'t. (not cvs, the shell-script-installer from the ps website).

however, in the problems with CB forum one has posted that the actual server version is now running with the cvs - i will try it again this evening, and tomorrow, and the whole weekend... as suddenly as it stopped to work, it will hopefully work again - and if it means that i have to run it with cedega in the end, then be it - i do not want to boot windoze again because of ps.

a friend of mine is eager to try it out - and he does not have windoze, nor cedega.... hope the linux version will be fixed soon (or is already ;))

I too just ran the installer just a second ago for linux. 3006 and it is also giving the same error.  That is crazy.  I do though have wine and am going to try it through there.  Will post updates.

I managed to get my CVS-build up and running (happily connected), but they seem to have updated the server to match the CVS by now. :S

So where do we get the cvs version again??  Also, what about the windows version.  It also does the same thing and when you update it, it downgrades the updater and hoses the game.  Just curious.  I tried it on both machines.

EDIT: Nevermind.  I forgot, that you can get it from the server.  This is a direct quote from the server administrators.

2005.02.03 Updater Upsets

As you may be aware we are experience some problems with our updater. We are working as hard as we can to get it fixed so please be patient while we work though it. Thanks!

as of 17:00(GMT+2) 05.02.2005 cvs version still does\'t work with the server.

Is there a way to find out what is the version of the build and what is the version of the server (the version  that server expects)?

Maybe server should be made more lenient to client versions and allow +-2 versions or smth?
