the programm crashed everytime i try to start it.

So you have to reinstall when the error is fixed.

edit: and it didn\'t fix the problem ;(

I doubt it, if the updater cannot even run to the point where it fetches the registry for new files, it can\'t possibly fix itself. Reinstalling isn\'t THAT bad, I mean so you wait for 15 minute are so. :D

Don\'t worry, the GMs won\'t abandon us...they will come up with a fix soon.

but it\'s no good to have 100\'s of people redownloading 100\'s of megs just to fix one file when they could put a download on the website of a better installer... that\'s what I think they\'ll do at this point.

After reinstalling it still had the bug for me. :(

Nope, it finished the update and crashed!

Reedit: ok after uninstall it then reinstall (and not reinstall directly) thie work :D

Yeah, well I reinstalled it as well...updated it, and program crashed(not updater). I opened the updater and the bug was back...im not so sure what is causing it now.

It\'s the first time i have\'nt been able to fix this updater bug somehow so i think we just need to be a little more patient

Post by: Gilibran on February 04, 2005, 08:39:29 pm: you don\'t stop it, you can\'t do anything about it. Something went wrong when the latest update was installed on the server, and the dev\'s are working very hard to fix it.

Be patient and keep an eye on the forum to see when it\'s fixed

I managed to restore a working copy of the client from a system that hasn\'t been updated for a week. It will let me get all the way to the login screen. At that point I can see that the server is down and has been like that for at least the last 4 hours (17:30 EST now).

If there was someone on, that was quite some time ago now.

EDIT: according to the message time stamp, that was over 14 hours ago though. lol

Post by: Snuffkin on February 07, 2005, 04:15:26 pm: Reinstalling won\'t help because you\'ll have to update to be able to connect on the server and once you\'ve updated you\'ll have the latest version of the updater and such which is the one you currently have, so it\'ll start crashing all over again. (I believe.)

Instead, you should probably just try executing updater.exe --auto to update until it\'s fixed.

That is, right click on the Updater shortcut in start menu, select properties, and append \' --auto\' to the target box, while preserving the original contents. (Note the space before --auto.)

The updater should now work.

(Oh, and the normal updater crashes me. Only the --auto one will work.)
