Title: Tell me if you agree with this
Post by: Nimfis Altmer on February 04, 2005, 05:51:44 pm
Tell me if you agree with this.....In my opinion MMORPG\'s are not video games...There a form or virtual reality...You dont \"Play\" an MMORPG you \"Live\" it....Its like the life youve always wanted and you can change things to your liking without getting into trouble....I think there the greatest invention mankind has ever made....But we musnt forget the first RPG\'s like D&D and
Kind Of Spades.....They were all good i hope they make a graphics adventure out of them...(But some people like the pen and paper so keep em) Either way its up to you if you agree with what im saying here...Thanks for your time (if you give me any)

uhm... ever heard of such games as Baldur\'s Gate, Icewind Dale or Neverwinter Nights?

Anyway,

Tabletop was always better than MMORPG, both by RP and G.

Yes it\'s a game, you must always remember that. When you start confusing a game with any kind of reality then things can start to screw up for you in rl if you\'re not careful.

wow windwalker 8o I think tabletops games are Edit: \"more fun\", not \"funner\", but not when the players start to get to deep into them, e.g. my friend in now playing a real-life demon roleplaying game, needless to say I don\'t go over to his house anymore or ride in his car, I might get killed (he has a large collection of rather sharp swords, several that he has started keeping in his car 8o) I prefer the rpg\'s that actually have a board, not a  rulebook that you then act out in real life.

they are making Dungeon&Dragon\'s Online : D&D Online (http://www.ddo.com/)

Baldur\'s Gate and Icewind Dale are AD&D, while NWN is D&D... still basically the same RP experience, besides in BG you just play the same campaign over and over again :D

Xordan, there\'s people who roleplay for profession i mean theatre, cinema and tv actors and they don\'t confuse reality with RP... Any normal person know that it is just a game but if you deeply don\'t belive that you are, in that moment, in a real situation you cannot RP at well... But only in the moment you play you must belive in it... I suggest RP people to do theatre courses to learn how to act properly

Unless I\'m mistaken, Xordan was not refering to the RP aspect of the game.  Rather those individuals that so submerse themselves in a MMORPG that they spend every waking moment online and disregard real life entirely.

MMORPG\'s offer a taste of life as you want it, however self-denial is necessary to prevent a pixelated world becoming more desired than reality.

Essentially, to me it is a place for impromptu (or improvisational) acting, a place where one can wear as many masks as he or she wishes.  Plus, there are those who aren\'t locked into having the same character day in day out: One day the salesman, the next a doctor, then a lawyer.  The ability to do that decreases as system control increases, however.

The risks of improv acting at the wrong place IRL can be problematic.  ...and there\'s that whole \"social\" thing.  :P
\"Heyuh...  John, look at those weirdos over there in the cloaks.\"  \"Sheesh, what fags.\"

lol, yeah, and using the general term MMORPG as a sub for RL is even greater folly than allowing a game, not matter how fun, to become your RL.  Just because 1 game you played was fun, and even maybe better than RL for you (not hard in the world we live in) doesn\'t mean they all are.  But no, although you can \"live\" and RPG, you can only live it in-game.    If you make an RPG your real world, then whenever you are playing the game you are OOC.  Keep that in mind...

yeas your right!  i love tha atmosphere built up in games that make them not games.

ok ok obviously they are games...but can be much more than pushing buttons

sitting there and saying it is a game is annoying, you know what he is saying.

for me i love tha atmosphere in games, the people and the sense of a different world you are in so it can be more that just a game and have more meaning that a game

cheers davo
