Title: guild war effects
Post by: steuben on February 06, 2005, 03:48:15 pm
short concept:
after and during each guild war the local and or global economy of planeshift become depressed for a little bit.

long concept:
as many of the you know a war plays total havoc on economies. both during and after the war much of the effort is focused on that.

in highly specialized economies, and i think ps is one of them, such effects are more pronouced. a smaller war will produce larger effects. at the scale of ps a guild war should produce noticable and large effects on the general economy.

based on that, both during and after guild wars there should both increased prices and a lack of availablity of many, if not all, goods that we are able to purchase. the effects are additive, but decrease over time.

inaddition neighbouring cities should see some of the effects as well. a slight increase in prices, as well as a slight decrease in availablity. as merchants in that city see the chance to make more money by shipping some goods to the war torn city.

yeah, this will be one of those really far down the road implementations. but, it maybe interesting to discuss it atleast.

When guild goes on war, members cannot earn as much money and produce as much items (since they need to fight). That is the badside for economy. It\'s not government, but guilds who go on wars you know...

Imagine the cumlative effect of all the Guildwars  that will take place over the course of time. With all the good aligned and evil aligned Guilds in a state of permanant warfare the effect on the economy will be big. Not to mention the battles involving neutral guilds.

it wouldn\'t be permanent, only a few days out of every other month

In a game like planeshift is a guild war going to be bad for the economy.

While the guilds who are fighting will take a financial hammering, the others will profit out of it.

The other guilds will produce more goods - weapons, runes, food etc and be employed more - spies, mercenaries.  This is likely to be good for the economy.

That\'s not an idea. That\'s how it is and frankly, will be.
If you fight, you don\'t have much time to earn money. That\'s where the economy comes in. Guild which went to war will go weaker.

It\'s obvious and makes sense. Unlike the idea of whole government going weaker because of a guildwar...
Few guys fight each other and that has effect on the global economy? Any logic in that?

I agree Draklar your on the MORE correct side...

however war betweeen factions does affect the economy as a whole

for example: both guilds buyout the weapons on the market thus raising prices and increasing demand

just thought id point it out

Yes, but that would work on normal basis. So if such economy would be implemented, such thing could occur no matter if there is a war or not.
