Title: Little bit disappointed
Post by: Vorcrean on February 11, 2005, 12:46:20 am
I was reading the following thread: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=14527&boardid=13&styleid=3&sid=b2650fd53902581cc11a26a3e6ff609e
and was a little bit disappointed by Gronomist final post.

I think she misinterpreted what Willen says. What he says was \'Does all GM have to be English?\' (or say in another way : Does the fact that English is not my native tongue be an obstacle to me becoming a GM (one day and if you guys find i\'m worthy) ?\"

He never say stuff like \'the fact that i\'m french should give me an advantage when trying to become GM\'
First point.

Of course I completly agree with the fact that every GM should speak English, and that every PS player should have a level of English that allows him to understand what \'s happening and be understood by other players.

It has never be a will of the French players to segregate the community and game in two. If you take a look at the official PS French Forum & website (which is in French ;-) ) you\'ll see that we always enforce the fact that PS is an international game in which the common tongue is English   (and not an English Game. Lucas is Italian, and some of the dev come from various parts of the world) and therefore that every French player has to be able to speak some English.

But i see no wrong in helping people in their native tongues when possible. It makes help be faster and avoid any misinterpretation due to the language.

Final point about bragging: isnt it always a risk? GM are committed players, which mean they generally belongs to a guild and know people in the game (guild, IRL friends they convinced to play...) I dont see why nationality should be a bigger issue here than guild loyalty or IRL friendship or \'I\'m-playing-a-Kran-so-I-brag-Kran\' (or Ynwn or Enki or... ,-) ) issues

I guess it is a matter of honesty, and GM are supposed to picked up based on this quality aren\'t they?
