Title: magic against weapon
Post by: shorty13 on February 12, 2005, 02:29:45 am
I was just wondering,:
If I had 3 levels in a given way of magic, and 3 levels in swords, what would deal more damage?  Do swords do more damage?

Please answer my question.  Last time I asked something, I was just ridiculed.  Thanks to those who answer me. :)

In most RPGs, magic hits harder, because it has the mana issue.

Sorry but this question is like: is Zorro stronger than Batman?

I think it depend on the strenght (a mix of strenght itself + ability+endurance) and/or the mana (a mix of charisma and will and intelligence) so a character who have skill 3 on magic way and skill 3 on weapons way will hit differently due his main \"way of thinking\". A warrior will hit more with weapons because he will has more strenght than mental ways and so on...
This is my opinion but this one is empiric and logical and i could do mistakes

this reminds me of the story I read somewhere. There once was this \"Uber\" Paladin with disspell magic armour lvl 1200k+ and magic mighty devine twohanded + triple 1200k sword in Ad&d (very obvious) he was very very disliked by his rp group (even more obvious) this is how they got rid of him. They picked a fight with him harrased him long enough and even turned there characters to evil allignment so he had to attack them. Now there was this lvl 2 or 3 magic user. he chose a large, very large boulder and cast some spells on it wich made the size and weight of the boulder same as a pebble. next thing this guy passed the pebble onto the halfling in the group who was very good with the sling.

hehehehehe. the halfling threw the \"pebble\" at the palladin who laughed at the puny attempt they made to hit him. That was untill the pebble entered the disspel magic zone of his superduper armor and turned it back again in a ten ton boulder. ROFLOL

so it shows even a lvl 3 magic user can kill a 1200+ superwarrior as long as he uses his brain.

Typing this i completely lost what this actually has to do with you\'re question. lol but hell let it be a lesson.

Well, it\'s a bit hard to say, depends on many factors, for example I got massive Strength but low Agility so I am being hit hard all the time, if that happens I am using magic, even though it takes a lot more time, you can kill monsters that you couldn\'t kill in close combat, you just run around casting a spell..:D

In terms of damage done, level 3 sword does alot more. But level 3 magic you can attack from a distance, so if you\'re clever you can attack and kill much harder monsters than with level 3 sword, but trapping them and then just casting until they die.  So its a trade off.
