Title: PlaneShift Comic Project
Post by: Xythe on February 12, 2005, 03:54:43 am
PLANESHIFT COMIC PROJECT

Ok I am starting this thread to see if ppl like this idea or not? Those who likes it will have to give their full support to this project.

There are somethings that I would like to receive help on:

1. I need a story, if you think you have a good story in mind do share it with everyone.

2. A colouring artist would be cool. :)

3. Maybe backgrounds and environment? Because i still ain\'t familiar with the world of PS yet. :P Still new to this game.

4. And any other way you can contribute to this project.

i like the idea VERY much, of course i will contribute into colouring, maybe we can persuade one of the very good artists like Moogie or Karyuu, maybe even Djagg to do cover art ie Title pages :D i think it be best if we had 2 or 3 colouirists, I\'m in for one ^^

Ya, maybe with more ppl\'s help we can get this done nicely. Some good artists, colourists and good story writters could do the job. :) Hope it will turn out well.

I may be able to work on the story, I am not that funny, but I can write well.

If I were good with 2d I\'d offer to help, but I\'m not.  I can offer to host it for you, though.  ps-mc will gladly give what it can for the project.

Edit: Jose, you weren\'t around at the time.

ArcaneFalcon, shouldn\'t you check with the host before making assumptions? ;)

Anyway, yes, we at http://ps-mc.com/ would be happy to host it for the community. (that\'s the Planeshift Modding Community, for those not in the know...)

I can do some 2d, but personally I would try to find Karyuu or Djagg... Karyuu has already done a comic, actually. You can see it here: http://www.saber.co.nz/explorers/forum/viewtopic.php?t=560

I\'d be willing to help with writing.... Story ideas, etc. etc.
Title:

ArcaneFalcon: Thx for the offer for the space to put the comic. Maybe what I will do is draw out the B&W comic strip and let the colourist colour it then transfer it to the official web-host.

And one thing I would like to know. What kind of story do you all want? A serious one or a \"just for laugh\" one?
Title:
Post by: TheRedMonk on February 13, 2005, 05:37:42 pm
I would be glad to help out with the writing as well...my idea is to make it fun by making caricatures of planeshift players, and maybe make use of bugs and stuff like that.

Portray the world of PS like it is today and not how it is supposed to be... ;)

Yeah, and call the first chapter: \"When the Grind stole PlaneShift\" or something like this. ;)

When I made it into PS yesterday (straight from char creation), I was challenged twice within the first 10 steps I took. Therefore I turned on Auto-Decline.

Very good very good! :D

You can post an additional thread in the general or RP forums leading here for storywriters.

BTW, you can make fun stuff, or tell a story, or anything you want.
I\'ll try to write a short story too and perhaps make a coloring for the first chapter.

I\'d love to see a serious, dark kind of comic centered in the Planeshift universe.

Good luck with this.

I think this is a great idea.

I\'m not an artist but I can contribute as a story writer and web designer/master.

What I had in mind is to draw a group of people who starts off from Yliakum into their own adventure looking for fame and fortune.
Well some fighting here and there exploring new places. And finally leads them to a place where their fate will change.

Well ya something like that.

Maybe you all have some better ideas? If the comic is going to stick very closely to the PS world......will the places and monsters have to be the same? If yes, can someone provide info on it cause I don\'t have those infos.

Thanks everyone here for the interest in this comic project. Maybe I will design out the cast of the story once everything is settle.

My advice:

Have a middle-feeling adventure, neither too dark nor too light, too serious or too comedic.

AND.

Every so many strips, break the fourth wall (even if its a seperate thing altogether), so there\'s some room to make fun of glitches and such in the game.

Essentially:

Strip 1: Alice and Gorbath meet in a tavern.

Strip 2:  Alice and Gorbath hunt rats together.

Strip 3:  Alice and Gorbath have a deep conversation about their beliefs.

Strip 4:  Alice and Gorbath remember the glue sea, and grumble at the teleporting rats, then fall off the world screaming \"Geronimo\".

Well, so you\'re going for a serious comic? Well, that\'s fine with me. TheRedMonks comment made me think of a sort of \"documentary\" that would follow actual development of PS (the program), including all the quirks and funny bugs as the characters would percieve them. But whatever it\'ll end up being, as long as it sticks to the setting it\'ll be OK. :)

Edit: Incenjucar just redundanised (;)) some of my post. :)

Is that good or bad? ;)

I think itd be cool to make an \"imaginary\" (or real your choice)
and then follow his/her adventures throughout the world of planeshift :

1)for example describe how many times she/he was challenged to a duel when they asked where the sewers were.

 2) or describe his/her elation upon first discovering the tavern and all the rpers there even a dwarf who jumps from table to table constantly (me :D )

3)her/his ardous first journey to ojevada and the hordes of trepors/ulbernauts/rogues they had to overcome to reach it

4)their first rat kill and the ensuing encounter with an uber rat of doom (glitched rat)

5) how they suddenly found themselves falling from   the face of the earth

6) the hours they spent exploring the beutiful countryside of planeshift

7) the time they tried to get on top of a random shelf and the various acrobatics required to do it

8 ) their first time experiencing the sight of the rats UNDER ojaveda 8o

ok so this ended up being a little more than a few examples but their ideas and theyre here so do what you will with them

regards

-Tarach

Would be funnier if it was funny if you see what I mean...
If you make an adventure comic, be sure to integrate humoristic features!

I liked Redmonk idea, mocking PS early stage of development from the inside. Like a group of player in front of monster, all arguing about the name of this beast and how to kill it to finally notice it\'s just a bugging tree ;)

There are so many bugs it\'s easy to find story with them ;)

How about instead of drawing frames, construct the comic by taking screenshots of players acting out the frames, and overlaying dialog balloons?

Maybe we should have themed screenshot and story competitions like they do in http://www.worldofwarcraft.com?

I just wish to comment on this: I think that breaking the fourth wall is bad. The chars should at no time be aware that they are chars in a comic strip.

Therefore, glitches and bugs should be only treated as they are percieved IC, like strange occurances that are unexplained (see this thread (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/action.php?action=getlastboard&threadid=14659)).

They should never ba talking about bugs and glitches.

Therefore, this woulsn\'t be breaking the fourth wall, as it\'s purely IC if done properly. However, \"Geronimo\" is, AFAICS, OOC, so this should be left out or replacerd.

@ The RedMonk: this is good. :)

Be sure to throw in a few actual planeshifters (famous & not-so-famous) for flavor.

Demarthl: I think some organization is needed atm.  You\'ve got a bunch of people willing to help, now you just need to find someone to officially organize it.  It was Xythe\'s idea so you might see if he wants to organize it.  If not, perhaps you should.  If you guys need I think ps-mc can set up a forum (open or closed, whichever you want) for planning and collaborating purposes (I think anyway, I\'ll check with josePhoenix).

Edit: Yep, I just checked with jose, if you guys need a forum for organization ps-mc can deliver.

World of warcraft has some rather funny comics, and if they are good, they get posted on the home page, maybe PS could do that?

I was missing out on this thread...........I was busy recently to really think up of a story therefore I have only take some time out for the fanart request.

Well it would be good to set up a discussion board for it. With ideas, designs, etc contributed into one place and get the comic going.

I think we should like list who is in the team for easiler reference. Well anyone could join in and give ideas on how it should be done......or if you have a good story post it up so that it can be drawn.

Debates? It is good idea to have it.........for example: Will it be better to have the comic done up as a comic strip which is like one page comic OR do it like a on-going comic like the ones you see in the market.

A five minute fake comic I did. It\'s nothing serious and nothing well done, but it does describe where we are now in the comic making phase.

Think we should do random comic stories at first or go straight into a plot?
Title:
Post by: kang_holion on February 27, 2005, 06:42:10 pm
You guys should of PM me so I would know you guys wanted my help, but I\'m here anyways ;) . I can only work on drawings during the weekends usually, but I\'ll try nontheless.

I think everyone should post a storyline or plot they made and we all choose between them OR take pieces that we like from each and mold it all together into a tasty hunk of nacho chalupa! My opinion :] .

Edit: Having two artists can really speed up the process, but we need twice as many colorers if we want to be producing one on a bi-weekly or monthly basis (like a real comic?), depending on how long each \"edition\" is or however the format may be.
Title:
Post by: Sarrow on February 27, 2005, 07:09:13 pm
Im thinking we should start our comic off without a plot but with PlaneShift parodies. Then once the public accepts the comic (think about to the 5th issue) We should start to blend into a plot.
Title:
Post by: Monketh on February 27, 2005, 07:14:21 pm
I can do sci-fi, but other than that I\'m no good for storylines.  So for this project that\'s not an area I can help unless you want to make it crazy, creepy, or need a cheap explanation for something.  Not to mention my humor is deplorable.

So:
2x artists
4x digital \"inkers\"
3-6x decent-superior writers
1x comittee to merge writer\'s works together
...and 1 location to compile the whole lot.

That leaves 8-11 positions open if the comittee is made up of the above persons.
So, who wants what?  I can take one of the artist/inker positions but I\'m not reliable with these things, especially drawing for someone else.  Of course, positions would be anything but permanent and we could swap people around for each \'issue\', maybe giving it to a different artist each time.
Title:
Post by: Hatchnet on February 27, 2005, 07:31:50 pm
I like the idea of people taking turns with each issue, esspesialy if we know the story lines for the issues a couple of weeks in advance.
Title:

i can only colour :D but if you guys wanna swap around a few times thats fine, i just cant draw or write for shite ^^

Anyway, yes, there are forums for the comic project at the address he mentioned. If you are a prospective staff member, be sure to register on the forums and provide me or Demarthl with your name and position on the team so we can grant you access to the private forum.

I propose that all further dicussion from this thread should be conducted here: http://comic.ps-mc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=14

Unfortunately, due to a lack of nearbye scanner (The family scanner is 45 minutes away, and while I\'m at uni, I\'m not keeping a car around), I can\'t really hope to contribute to this artistically... (Somehow I don\'t think grainy webcam images would be that useful...) however, as an English major, a comic fan (web and non), a fantasy fan, and a long-term roleplayer... I\'ll do what I can to throw some ideas and observations in to things.

In the semi-distant past, I even tried a few comics of my own... but.. eh.. the results.. no.

Yeah, but I meant in the sense that the rat-killing thing is a little over-used, but it\'s still classic for every game, because it makes us think of doing it ourselves.

*brushes the dust off of the thread*

Just reminding you folks that there\'s the whole comic project thingie.  There\'s currently very little activity on the comic board, and very little being done after that first push.

You do NOT want -me- to slip in to an active creative position.  I have a deranged sense of humor involving -horrible- puns, and my art skills are mediocre.

My last comic attempt was http://f-freelords.tripod.com/comics.htm , a disturbing look at why I became an English major and not an Art major or a Screen Writer.

Save PS Comics.  Go to the thread and start contributing.

Do not let the light die for sloth.
