Title: Updater Error
Post by: shorty13 on February 13, 2005, 03:17:48 pm
When I run the updater, just before it comes up on my screen, it doesn\'t and and error pops up.  It says:

updater.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

I have Windows 2000

Can someone help me?

Try the Java Updater by Cha0s:

Updater.jar (http://www.world-of-cha0s.hostrocket.com/PSUpdater/Updater.jar)

Thanks for the post, Shorty13.

My spouse, several friends, & myself are all having the exact same problem.

I\'m off to try the updater derula recommends.
Thanks to both of you.

Tried the Java Updater; but don\'t want to spend 3 Hours downloading it.
I have a decent system, so that\'s not the problem.
I\'m going to un-install PS, then re-install & update automatically that way.
It will take much less time. :+)

The 3 hours the updater states are not an ultimate truth, mine said 14 hours at the beginning, but only lasted 15 minutes or something. You can\'t get around that amount of download data, a reinstall won\'t do anything ;)

I\'ll just wait for an official fix :P
The latest on the update server is still broken.

when I wrote this I forgot about the \"Technical Help\" forum section.
I looked in there and the answer is in one of the newer threads.  Snuffkin said:

Right click on \'planeshift updater\' shortcut in the start menu.
Click Properties.
In the \'Target\' box, add --auto to the end of what is already in there without disturbing the existing contents. It should look something like:

\"C:\\Program Files\\Planeshift Crystal Blue\\Updater.exe\" --auto

Note the space between what was already in there and the \'--auto\' you appended.
Now attempt to run the updater again.

--This worked for me, so hopefully it will for you

I un-installed PS; then re-installed - with the latest Updater working just fine.
It took way less time, & I\'m back to playing with no problems.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions, here & elsewhere in these forums.
I definitely recommend re-installing the main PS client, if others are having problems with the updater like I was.

My spouse & friends did the same thing, & PS is now working fine for all.

Well, sadly i have dial-up and i havent been able to download files from the updater, so for the last 15 hours (and its still downloading) Is there something spiecal that ill have to do after this finishes, i noticed that there are many zipped files, am i going to have to extract them, and also, has this worked for anyone else who has used it? Sorry for so many questions, its been like 3 weeks of my trying to get this to run without much luck. My 1st problem was that some the files were (are) so big that it lags out and isnt able to complete (so im thinking) any direction or suggestions would be helpful. Sorry if this lil\' note isnt as lil\' as i started :P

It finished..Finally. But i get the same message as before \'\'An Error has occured Crystal Blue @ address 09D32BAF, Exception code: C0000005\" it askes to save dianostic, then microsoft has an error and then closes, i cant get to the log in screen and when i try to run PSClient from the PlaneShift File it also has an error and has to close. Anyone??
