I know there are internal Guild Points .. but this Guild Points are more used to get an eye on the Ranking inside of that Guild .. but if a Guild can earn (external) EXP like a character can .. there might be some possibiliys.
1.) there is a opinion in each Guild to earn that Guild EXP which gave the Guild a purpouse
2.) there is a way to have an eye how active and prospering one guild is by that way
3.) this Guild EXP could be used to rank up in political influence of a Guild
4.) This Guild EXP could be used to \"buy\" a Guild home if maybe a Guild has enough EXP and money it could buy a Guild House which prevents that each new Guild gets an abandon new home
This Guild EXP might be earned in several ways. Maybe the most think about \"yes a Guild war\" (why you always wish to play war ???) .. i more think about Quests which could be implemented by other Guilds .. as example a Guild creates a quest for other Guilds to help in some way .. maybe that a mage Guild ask a warrior Guild to kill some tefusangs which killed some mages on their way to City Ojaverda. The Warrior Guild may be rewarded with those Guild EXP. Or that maybe an Evil King (NPC) claims to start a war if the City of Ojaverda is not paying 10000 trias to him .. that way a Guild could be hired to prevent that war by using political influence or a Theaving Guild might try to kill that king or maybe just the earn enough money to calm down that king.
Another Quest might be to fight a dragon or quests which improve the activity between guilds .. like one Guild XXX has to get some stuf from another Guild YYY and deliver that to Guild ZZZ .. or maybe something in conjunction with the Temple of Laanx or the Library. That means that there are official Guild Quest and Own made Guild Quest).
The earned Guild EXP might also be use to train internal Guild skills .. like to get one member in the Guild be trained in the \"training skill\" with that EXP ..

I like this idea. This could take the Alliance function to a whole new level

Thats what we are for. ;)
It might be a good idea if we expand on it a bit.

Guild points could be used to increase guild popularity. We could get a way to place posters of the guild depending on the guild\'s popularity to make some publicity to the guild. Of course it will be a moderated quantity of them (not imagin all Ojaevda all cover of posters :) ).

Great idea :D
Think this should be on the Dev\'s always growing list of things to do :P
not so high up but around the middle, this could be a quite important future that has potential 8)

I\'d not directly argue against your idea... I\'m still considering, if EXP should be the measure, or if this is D&D through the backdoor... but still... good idea... perhaps link it to Guilds money instead... dunno...
BUT
this rule would give Guilds an importance they have in no other game. Seeing that uber-guilds can already suffocate a game without such rules in other MMORPGs, this idea would require some delicate balancing.
Having this in mind, can you perhaps work this out a bit? It\'s an interesting subject. :-)

I like the idea as well. Though this would cause quite a dilemma. Guilds who are mass recruiting guilds would have huge advantages... if we look at it as a competition. Guilds that prefer to stay small would have problems in this type of competition unless you believe that mass recruiting guilds do not have the longevity that smaller more organized guilds have. But has anyone noticed how many people have been on from Guardians of the Way. They seem to be taking over the in game aspect. I still like the idea... but what happens because you have so much Guild EXP.... can we get better equipment, a better Head Quarters or something like that.

@Valbrandr
Yes that might be a problem but at a deeper look .. a 'mass recruiting guild' has mostly a major lack. The lack of personality, charm, real roleplayers .. they are mostly guilds like 'we are all super fighting heros' who stand every day in teh arena to just kick some gladiators. They wouldn't interact with other guilds.
And anyhow a big Guild with a lot of Members .. why don't they should have an influence? It is even realistic that they have greater power and influence than a small guild might have. But that does not mean that a small hidden Guild of Thieves can't prosper. Even in real life if you start a new firm you have to checkout what the market needs and what you can do better than others. I moreover things that this will lead to the point that guilds do a lot more stuff than just mass recruite. They try to keep the system running .. give/get new quests and actions. And yes as well I think a good organized Guild might even last longer than a 'mass recruiting Guild' with no soul. If you have a Guild and want to have a quest been finished you can decide to give it to a small well known guild .. maybe a guild where you know each other .. or to give it to an anonymouse factory of mass players. So you have it in your choice as well which guild will get more of this!
Another point .. the bigger the guild is, the more likely the guild will operate a Quest on its own without help from outside .. but that way the guidl can't give another Guild the Points and as well won't get a Quest from another Guild because there is no exchange ..
Sure it is not fully free of problems .. but thats why it is discussed :)
@Ragnar-GD
nope .. no D&D through the backdoor even that I like D&D .. maybe you are right that the GuildEXP as an unlimited resource isn't very good .. on the other hand a big Guild with a lot Money might overflow or dump the market .. because they don't realy care about the money and can reward more than others and in reverse if they help another Guild they can do it for less money just to get the Quest. Maybe have a combination of Money+GuildEXP as reward ..
And yes .. the balancing is very important and will be complicated because you have to let it run a while till it stables itself a bit .. but I guess with this Idea Guilds makes more Sense .. till now a Guild is not much more than a simple collection of Players ..

for this guilds would be needed to be job specific to allow to measure its xp (or guild points or whatever) this xp then could be gained from the guild players job skill every time its used.
i dont tink it should be reflected as money but as "fame" showing the guilds sucess this could also benefit the guild with some extras that couldnt be attained in no other way.
examples:
- headquarters to facilitate trades, or any other guild business
- headquarters upgrades signs, size, simple programable npc's (for vendors(buy/sell) or quests), mail for the members (since they would have a fixed place to live)
- transports
- storage
with upgrades there could be a increasement in taxes :)
-
Well, basically this is an idea to measure the power or capability of a guild. I suppose this could be measured in several ways:
1. The amount of money in the Guild Treasury
2. The skills of the guild members [if there are badges or titles that players can get by having good skills then the guild benifits from the badges the members hold]
3. Resources the guild controls [territory they can defend, guild equipment the have, or something else]
also, for a guild to keep something like a storage room or a furnace. It would make sense for them to have to pay upkeep on it for coal to fuel the furnace and money to run the storage area..

(skipped last few posts)
you could maybe buy a npc? like you could tell it things to say ect... and he/she could also be a guild bank only accesable by certain people. a game called eternal lands has a very good system.

Hmm, and the leader could spend the XP on different costumizations for the guildhouse, and maybe when the masonry skill comes out, each guild can have a "block" for members' houses, and I guess guildless people will build it in one of the public blocks, there should be like ten of those.
-
there would be an option to base the Guild EXP on factors like number of members, skill lvl they got, time they play and ratio of unexp. members vs. exp. members, supposing that most recently joined ppl will join a mass recruiting guild, while the longer they play, the more will go into 'theme' guilds or make their own.

what happened to good old fashioned "money"?

as mentioned before .. GuildPoints are an abstract Value .. they represent knowledge, members, size, effort, work .. in all matters the status of a Guild, while money only represents the treasury of a Guild. A Guild may be small, with only a few members and therefore a small amount of Money .. but as they run a lot of Roleplaying Events and progress much in Planeshift and Yliakum they may have a lot GuildPoints.
These GuildPoints may be used to "buy" a status or an area for their GuildHome inside of Planeshift or maybe just to represent a ranking. Also those GuildPoints may be used to award other Guilds with points just for the purpouse of Roleplaying. Money could be used to buy Armors and Weapons .. but theses stuff is not realy needed for Roleplaying. So the GuildPoints are much more a sign of active work and play in Planeshift, while Trias only will represent the amount of taring, Looting and those stuff.
