Before I start whining, I would like to thank all the players and developers that make this a great game. They really make up for when people do less than desirable things. And If this is not where this message goes, or has been done before and I didn\'t see it, I appologize.
I ran into an instance where a player (no names) was player killing with a lack of disregard for the game. A challenge was issued to me. I located the person and accepted. Then the person disappeared behind the scenery. I figured they changed their minds, and started walking on my way. You can imagine my surprise when I started getting attacked by a spell a few moments later! Needless to say, I got my but kicked.
A little later, I ran into the same person again in the plaza. And once again he issued a challenge. Hoping that it was just a fluke, I accepted. Immediately after he ran away, and I lost him in the crowd. Then a challenge from another member of his guild started popping up on my screen. As you may realize, you can?t hit any buttons for anything else until you accept or decline a challenge. I declined, as I was already in a fight. But that same challenge kept popping up, keeping me busy. In the meantime, the magic arrows started coming as before. I did try to follow the first player to actually fight him, but between the two players, I lost. The worst part is that when I re-spawned the two were talking about how the second player was helping the first. I immediately started shouting that they were cowards, what they were doing, and warning other players not to accept challenges from that player.
Now I like a good bloodbath just like the next person, but this was flagrant abuse of the challenge system perpetrated by cowards that treat players and dual points like a commodity. A couple of players questioned what I was talking about, so I explained. Furthermore I gave examples of what should happen by accepting a few duals from the crowd. When I beat someone, I was waiting to tell him or her ?good fight?. When I got beat, I re-spawned and congratulated them immediately. Several conversations sprung up on technique, where to get training, and weapons. Generally, players had a good time.
I?m not asking for anyone to be kicked or banned. I didn?t loose any items that need to be returned. I?m not blaming developers, cause I normally like the way the system works. Other than loosing a couple of moments, nothing bad really happened to me. What concerns me is the number of newbie?s that I have been helping out lately. Role-playing an ?evil? character is great and adds realism to this game. I read one hilarious post on luring monsters to boundary edges with magic arrows to set traps since people can?t see what?s past the boundary. But this is different, and can change a new players perspective of this game. If you want to have other players around to kill, then don?t chase them off by using bad techniques. If you want to be an evil character, try setting up a gambling ring for fighting in the arena. Or maybe you can ?only? charge somebody 8000 triad for an inscribed shield. But ganging up and using assignation techniques is childish, and will only serve to turn people away from Planeshift. If you want to treat a gobble or a tepor like that, be my guest. But these people are here for their fun, not yours.
I?m starting to ramble, so let me leave you with a thought and I?ll go. You ever see an old movie where they?re having a dual? TWO people are there to fight. They each bring one person with them. That person is there to make sure there is no cheating from either side.
The two fighters ready themselves. THEN the fighting begins. And dying is not the worst thing. Cheating, running, cowardice, and dishonor are all much worse than loosing your life.
Please remember, the pop up box says that someone is challenging you to a dual. Not to survive a cheater.

Ok, you\'re right. However, it was really unnecessary to post that here. Think about it. The people who come to the forums are the ones who are into RP and fair game, so we don\'t need to be told about it. Except maybe Kixie. ;) :P

Sounds like griefers to me. Theyre worse than blatant PKers. At least PKers limit their combat to the intentional use of the PK system. Where as this griefer scum exploit a flaw (yes I consider this 2nd challenge system as a flaw) to PK other players.
I personally dont accept any challenges. This eliminates the possibility of griefers getting the drop on me.

Well the dueling system is not perfect as you can see. Has lots of things to be addressed untill duels can take place between 2 random people with out complications. I think duels are definally more friendly at the moment. A bit later when everything is a bit more secure, I\'m sure the PvP will be modified for a smooth fun, player killing experience. All I can say is keep duels to people you know, remember that you aren\'t really losing anything by dieing, and that phinehas\' comment was completely uncalled for and couldn\'t be further from the truth. This is useless to anyone unless you give names. Challenge spamming is deserving of a kick, but we can\'t kick who we don\'t know.
My advice: Stop accepting challenges from these guys.
If you want to take this further, tell a GM, either by /tell\'ing them ingame or using the Petition system.
