Title: -auto/--auto doesn't work
Post by: Disq on February 21, 2005, 01:00:39 pm
my updater hasn\'t worked since ive gotten it, and people are saying that -auto will fix it. but it doesn\'t for me. this is what happens in the prompt

Code: [Select]
Critical files ((critical)) not found (server only)

NOTIFY: psUpdaterEngine initalized.

Invalid switch - /S

Downloading registry

0%....25%....50%....75%....100%

Couldn\'t delete temporary repository zip (updatertemp/repos.zip)

Loaded registry

Server has another updater, going to fetch it..

Updating updater to another build

0%....25%....50%....75%....100%

using that, it crashes before i even get into the updater. before i could get into it, but all the letters are fadded(same with the game) and as soon as i hit something, it crashes.

what build version have you been using?

have you tried to unistall and resinstall yet?

try this, instead of closing the window when it crashes, minimize it and see if there is an ok button that is hid behind it. I think the layering is wrong.

Use. -auto. on. new. updater. Seriously, how hard is that?

FYI, the original updater, even if started with -auto, will invoke the newly downloaded updater without -auto. Since the new updater won\'t work without -auto, it will crash.
Therefore, after having updated, and after the new updater has crashed, invoke it with -auto and it\'ll work. Simple, really.

@ The devs: in light of this, it might be a good idea to have the updater pass the arguments to the previous instance to the new instance if it is updated. This would fix this confusion, and also it would eliminate problems when people are using it in scripts, because if there\'s a new updater, the script will hang on the new updater, since it was automatically invoked by the old updater, but without -auto.
Title: use this then :O:O

\"C:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\\updater.exe\" --auto

Copy and paste that into your target and then run the updater once. if that does not work do it tomorrow.

Viola :)

And so forth

Hey Disq:

I know from our previous thread that you know what you should be doing, but that \"Invalid Switch\" message makes me suspect you (or your computer) may be doing something else without your knowledge. Thus, I think it\'s time to start trying bigger hammers to solve this.

First, I would completely uninstall PlaneShift and delete all shortcuts to the PS programs. Then, reinstall the game and try again.

If that doesn\'t work, do it again using a newly-DLed installer, and if that doesn\'t work, you may need to have your neighbourhood Windows Necromancer look at it.

I really hope you can get some use out of this suggestion...

The \"invalid switch\" message is perfectly normal and doesn\'t hurt one bit. It has accompanied me during all my updater -auto rides, which, BTW., all were smooth except for the manual copying. Therefore, it\'s highly unlikely to be a problem, or even an indication of one.

nonw of that works, and i tired to re dowlnoad it, but for some reason the site wont let me. it turns the dl into a web page with gibberish on it.

before i tried that though, i managed to get two dmp files,
PlaneShift_Version_Jan 19 2005_Addr00000000
PlaneShift_Version_Jan 19 2005_Addr7C00724A

it said to send it to a dev, but which one?
