In a forum? I have yet to visit any quality forum board with jazzy animated gifs anywhere. The forums look fine, and anyhow I hear that someone is working on a forum with an updated colour scheme to match the official site.

Flashy animations detract from a users experience since they draw the users attention away from the websites content.  Why do you think Google is one of the most visited websites and it is a text area and a few links.

Kixie, I think you would probably be talking about my forums at http://phoenixcall.net/pstest/ and http://phoenixcall.net/psforum/. They contail the teal and brown versions, respectively.

However, work on them has been postponed until the release of phpBB Olympus (or phpBB3 as it has been called by some), since it will have an almost completely different theme system, which should hopefully make it easy to create the theme or themes, even if I have to effectively start from scratch.

Note: Some of the images seen to be broken on the brown color scheme test forums...

Please no! I am absolutely sick of the entire internet being cluttered with this moving, blinking crap! It\'s annoying, wastes screen space, bandwidth, processing power, and detracts attention. While these things are mostly abused by advertisers (which I have a deep-rooted hatred for), almost nobody else is using them, for these exact reasons. I have turned off all of that crap, and I must say that I find it much more enjoyable that way. After all, these boards are for discussion, not for watching things move.
