Title: Player guide/info wiki
Post by: sekhmet on February 24, 2005, 08:22:52 pm
I was thinking how much easier it would be if we had a wiki style web site where we could dynamicly add/change content.. We could concentrate a lot of info of these board their and everyone could help a bit. It could be used to translate the player\'s guide in different languages, explain wat skills are currently available and their effects. Some starter pointers for newbies. Solutions for updater and client problems. Input from devs wat is new in latest client version. The list goes on. Put it all this info together and you get one kick ass web site. This would help a lot with all this double posting on the boards. Website would need moderation tough, can\'t have people putting up solutions for quest and such..

Ha!!!  Some xenphobic person would go in and delete everything cause they\'re scared of PS community being seperated by people speaking other langauges..

Seriously, though, its a good idea.  Cant anyone just start a wikipedia entry if they want?  We could start one as a sort of a guide, and then people just add to it.

well it would be illegal for just anyone to start a wiki for PS....

this means that no one without permission may start the wiki or any other no official site that contains information on the game :\\ (including the Player Guide)

and there is a delevlopment wiki, I believe, though i dont think it is used much...

You\'d have to keep everything out that has something to do with PS, being NPC names, town names, monster names, item names, skill informations, etc. So bascially, just use what the devs give you and be happy they give you anything at all.

chriski: it is hard to know wat other people are working on or have done. With a wiki you could see it at a glance. PS evolves fast so the player\'s guide will need a lot of updating. Just thinking it will make thing easier on the long run.

Gnomomist: newbies have no idea of wat skills are working or wat they do excactly atm, a big part is covered in the player\'s guide but it is incomplete.  Also wondering how ps dev team will ever try to stop illegal websites with restricted info to pop up in future without money to pay for the legal fees to fight them.

It would take too much of an effort with lawyers and that kind of boring stuff to deal with such things, so that most likely wont happen, however, it takes less than 5 minutes to permanently ban anyone and everything related to someone who mentions anything related to an illegal url or website name here, ingame, on IRC or anywhere else the devs might see it. So... Using spoilers is kinda like any other illegal act. It\'s doable, but don\'t think it\'ll never be discovered because one day you\'ll screw up badly, and that\'s a fact. :)

That won\'t help much if they are pure into it for the money. I could imagen such a website attracting lots of lame ass cheaters. They could easly make profits with advertisement. Wat wil you do then?

Not planning on doing such a thing offcourse! (: Just think it\'s better to think ahead.. Sooner or later such a website will arise. Will you be able to stop it then? I\'m affraid not. Maybe then it would be smarter for the planeshift crew to own and create such a website. Then atleast you can control the content. Plus it will make it harder for other sites to establish.

the team doesn\'t want a site like that, its a role-playing game, and your new to the area so you will need to find out all of your information from ingame, and no they don\'t have travel agencies with a one-stop look at every piece of information in game ...

besides i could single-handly put down any site going against the PS liscense like that.... <.< >.> <.< >.>

I agree with no \"Planeshift bible site\" where every skill/npc are revealed, but about site, there is something I just think about...

Guild site? I m pretty sure lot of them has guide, tips, etc... and what about screenshot? if all is under license, maybe it\'s not allowed either...
