Well many people have different meanings of the word \"crashed\" many people wait for 10 minutes and figure: \"hey it hasn\'t started\" then they press ctrl+alt+delete and the game shows up as \"not responding\" and they think that the game has crashed, you can\'t imagine how many people that has said the game \"crashed\" when they just did not let it load

Post by: Mephisto on August 18, 2002, 02:39:58 am
Have you tried deleting, redownloading and then reinstall the game? something might have gone wrong with the download/unpacking, although as this is a tech release there is propably a couple of bugs in it so if it doesn\'t work... Not to worry it will most likely in the next version of ps  ;)

whoa, thats not good... Did you keep the install file though?
If you did try reinstalling, if not then.. uhm, you should wait for next version, theres not much to see in this one anyway, if you want I can make some pictures and upload them to a webpage for you so you get the idea,
Kinda feel sorry for you here.  :(

I have similar issues.  The first few times I ran the game (after the server issues a while back), it worked fine and I could wander around the little town and such.  However, whenever I try to connnect now, as soon it gets to Initializing World, the game will sit there for a bit (which is to be expected, then the music will go silent for about half a second, as if something went wrong, then Windows XP will bring up the little error message with absolutely NO info on what happened.  It then acts as if frozen and then I must shut it down.  I am running OpenGL mode and I have an Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz processor, running XP Home, a GeForce 3 64 MB with the latest drivers, an MSN Broadband connection, and an ethernet card to hook it up with.  I have 512 megs of RAM, my version is of PS is the one released in June, 1.4 or 1.04, as far as I know.  The error occurred at 9:30 PM monday night, MST, on the 19th of August.

I have this problem too.  It gets to the \"Initializing World\" thing and then crashes, with no warning or error pop-up at all.  Maybe I\'m just impatient, though.  It\'s 2:40 AM here, and I don\'t have much time to wait.  I\'ll try again tomorrow.

as for \"ummm...hi\" isnt there some kind of error with planeshift and xp?
Like go to the main planeshift.exe, right click, properties, \"comply with windows 98\" or something like that,
I don\'t have xp myself and I have never even touched a computer with xp installed, but, eh, give it a try

Title: Firewalls?
Post by: Xandria on August 22, 2002, 01:16:55 am
Ok, I installed planeshift on my WIndows 98 drive, and it would get up to Loading world, then go back to the logon screen and say \"Server dropped us for unknown reason.\"
I was desperate to get it to work, so I installed SuSE Linux 7.3 on a spare drive, and finally got 3D acceleration to work.  I installed planeshift, logged on, and had the EXACT same problem?!?
It\'s obviously not the OS, so it\'s probably hardware, but everything I have installed has worked fine with everything else.
I just realized, that maybe it\'s not my computer, or my software, but instead the firewall that\'s blocking the connection?  I am using a hardware firewall built into my router.  Does anyone know if this may be the problem?

Time of Test: 2:25 PM
OS: Windows XP Pro
Processor: Pentium 4 2.0 GHz
RAM: 256 MB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce MX 440
Video Card Memory: 128 MB
PS Client Version: Don\'t know where to find that, sorry, but I downloaded it two days ago!
OpenGL or Safe Mode: OpenGL
Description of the Bug: I created the character fine, I started the upload fine, it gets as far as Loading the World, then it crashes. Consistently. I think the problem might be with csjpgimg.dll, but I\'m only about 60% sure on that.
Title: Firewall and XP
Post by: Karsten on September 11, 2002, 09:49:39 pm
If you have a firewall, disable it (or open up the port planeshift uses, but I dont know which port it is yet :P )
so you wont get the SERVER DROPPED US message.
(this includes ipchains and tables)

On XP, be sure to use win98/me emulation
(right-click on psclient.exe -->Properties-->Compatibility-->Mark the little box at compatibility-->choose Windows98/ME)
