Title: Weather
Post by: WhiteNight on March 07, 2005, 12:39:17 am
It would be great if there was weather in the game, because it would make it more realistic. From what I\'ve seen, all you need for weather is a particle effect. I also hope you can go inside buildings sometime in the future... Please consider my suggestions!

Yea weather would make the game a lot more realistic.
I would like rain, snow, and hail.
Also when it snows that the snow would stay on the ground so you can pick up snow and throw it at people.
And when it hails depending on how big the hail is it could hurt you a little, like 0.25 damage every second you were outside.

Do a search.

Weather was in MB, they\'re just focusing on other things right now before bringing it back.

Ah, Yliakum is undergoing a massive drought. I\'m surprised the river hasn\'t dried out yet. I\'m sure it will rain again soon.

Obviously you haven\'t been down in the sewers, then you would understand that Rain would be a terrible, terrible thing.

Carefully walk around and note how often you go up and down and you soon get an idea that there are low spots that would flood out, perhaps back up water back into the city streets.

Now imagine if anyone was down there - The horrors.

8o    8o    8o    8o     8o

There was rain in an earlier version, it is a doable thing. It was kind of odd rain though.  I liked it, soothing, calming I would stand out in the rain, music off and volume turned up just to enjoy the rain.

If the sewers flooded what would all the new people do? There would be a rat\\gobble extinction

Just to put this down, when there used to be rain (in MB i think it was) my comp lagged soooo much it wasn\'t worth playing.  I am actually glad there is no weather effects.

mmm yes the lag rain of mb, must say it wont lag as much anymore, improved so greatly ^^.

as for flooding, read the history about the stalactite, all the water goes to the bottom 2 levels, were the Nolthrir live, some how it drains slowly so it rises no more then the lowest areas of the 3rd, or drains to lower then the first ^^

Weather would make the game 50% more realistic and should be put ingame as soon as possible! Weather will make the game the game it really is inside

Hi, I hope this thread isn\'t to old to revive. If it is I\'m sorry, I just didn\'t want to start a new thread on an old subject

I think the real question is what tpyes of wheather fit in to the setting? I\'m writing my character\'s story right now so this type of thing would be useful to know.

You\'ll find most any weather types in Yliakum- rain, wind, heatwaves... but I\'ve heard we won\'t have snow?? (Can someone confirm this?)

Basically, if it can exist in a cave, then it\'ll likely exist in our stalactite. :)

Well, I still don\'t think that actual rain will be possible with the cavern ceiling being relatively close to the first level. Apart from that, the second and lower levels are even closer to the lower floor of the upper levels, meaning that clouds wouldn\'t form. Therefore, I think it\'d at best be mist and dew, not actual rain.

As for ths snow:
Quote
from art/gui/zodiacs.xml
Hoarfrost has thickened to resemble something that some races refer to as snow. Some ice flakes fall from the small vents in the cavern roof and settle on the upper levels, which begin to melt off as Novari draws to a close.

This strongly suggests that there is no actual snow. However, with temperatures this low, the absence of snow also hints at the absence of rain in warmer temperatures, since snow is just frozen rain.

But, is this mist and dew of a large enough quanity to support vegatation?

It isn\'t, but there are rivers that enter Yliakum through cracks in the ceiling and walls, providing plenty of water to support the life inside the stalactite. :)

Well, that explains a lot.
