Title: Updater Being Evil
Post by: Rhuddlan on March 10, 2005, 06:54:55 pm
I just installed PlaneShift, and am trying to run the updater to get the proper version. It says I have updater version 1.0.2.3, and when I tell it to update, it says there\'s a new version of the updater it wants to install. So I let it run, and it flashes a few black ms-dos type screens at me, then tells me the updater has been installed, and will continue to update. It then procedes to do the same thing. Over and over and over. Constantly downloading and installing a new updater without ever actually updating the game to the point where I can play it.

Help appreciated. I\'m drooling over the screenshots, and want in. ^^

Have you tried the --auto method yet? If not, search around the forum for the steps needed.

Just tried it. It ran the updater in the ms-dos window, where it announced that it needed to download the new updater. It did that, ran the updater again, and announced once again that it needed to download a new updater.

Same process. x.x

One trick that often works for me in similar situations is to copy the files that the updater downloads from the \'updatertemp\' subdirectory into your Planeshift install dir.

So, if you\'ve installed Planeshift into C:\\Planeshift, you\'d copy the files from C:\\Planeshift\\updatertemp to C:\\Planeshift.

The files you\'d be copying should include updater.exe as well as several .dlls

Anyway, it\'s worked for me in the past when the updater acted similar to what you\'re describing.
